I know it's REALLY early for a poll like this, but the sooner the better, right? :mischief:

What do you guys think about the upcoming Scenarios in phase "Ice" ?

Are you looking forward to it like the best thing since ice cream, or actually couldn't care less and will end up playing the epic game as usual anyway? maybe you'd rather see the devs just to scrap them altogether and focus on the mod itself?

for myself, I think it's really depending on how long it will take to get them done. I'll play every one of them once of course, but I think I could happily live without them either.

The scenarios are going to fill in a lot of the missing lore that the world is set against. Why did Rosier fall? Who is Decius? Will the world end in Ice or Flame (Mulcarn or Hyborem)?

Robert Frost said:
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I'm really looking forward to the scenarios.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm expecting them to be a series of more customized challanges where you'll have to find the means to reach a particular goal or counter a specific problem.

That kind of thing breathes a lot of life into a scenario, turning into something more than simply a new map. It also encourages you to apply new tactics and strategies out of neccessity rather than simply to try them out.

Nothing is greater than finding that your favorite pet strategy just doesn't cut it and you'll have to figure something else out. :D

I'm expecting them to be real fun. Also since they're not all playable from the start but unlocked when you finish the prequisite scenarios there's much more encouragement to actually finish your games as opposed to quitting midway through to start a new one.

I don't really care about the lore aspect, but a scenario designed to be playable for a single faction can actually be challenging and interesting, like FFH1.

So I'm hoping the team can do a good job on the scenarios, and I'm really looking forward to them.

I'm really really really looking forward to the scenarios. With no actual storyline the game gets boring after several [thousands of] victories.

Edit: Wow. How did I miss that?

Anyway, to make this slot worth something-
I am really looking forward to the scenarios and I think it will make the game even more fun than it s now. I am willing to wait as long as it takes for the team to know they have it just right.

I'm looking forward to the lore and to the new mechanics added, but I hope it doesn't come any time soon. I'm not looking forward to FfH being over. Also, I much prefer random maps to scenarios (AoI was a big disappointment). I hope the team focuses on new mechanics that are useful for modders rather than on scenarios.

I'm looking forward to the differant scenarios, notice how many of them there are, one for each civ!

I'm hoping that after they finish up that they'll keep making scenarios to add to the game, such as FFH really dosn't end until everyone gets sick of it (like that will ever happen).

I think they're going to be interesting, but I'm not sure I want them to be implemented like they are in regular Civ4. What would really be cool is if some scenarios crossed over into the regular game as quests under certain circumstances, essentially making your map the playing field of the scenario.

For instance, if Hyborem is going on a spree through several cities, an event popup could let you either turn on the rules for the "Lord of Balors" scenario, or play the game as normal. If you succeed in the quest (say, by taking down Hyborem or the Infernals as a whole), you'd get a major bonus (like +1000 score points).

If I recall correctly, I've read somewhere that the devs try to carry over archievements/decissions from one scenario to another.
That would be awesome, because it would allow big (user-created) campaigns with different outcomes, which would be replayable due to changing startlocations, enemies or relations depending on how the previous scenario went.

I thought that they were still going to inplement a new quest system, and that the scenarios were something completely differant.

Some scenarios will be effected by the outcomes of other scenarios. For example, winning the Lord of the Balors Scenario will half the strength of the Infernals in all the other scenarios (where they appear at all), and taking sides in the Elven Civil War can determine which Elven civ will appear later, and whether they view you as friend or foe.

Every campaign type thing I've played in a 4x game including AoI seriously disappointed me. I'm not willing to give the upcoming FfH ones the benefit of the doubt.

I want to see the new lore but I'm not willing to play through turn-based strategy campaign mode for it. It'll just get posted all over the lore subforum anyway.

I'm really looking forward them, for the lore and campaign, i hope though that the main game of FfH2 continue to be improved with new elements and features, because scenarios unfortunately don't have the same longevity

@Vehem I love that poem!

The scenarios are extremely intriguing to me. I must say that it's rare that I run across a scenario that I like enough to play multiple times (Sengoku - Sword of the Shogun in Civ III: Conquests was one of them), but I have a feeling that these will be amazing.

Although I looking foreward to the scenarios am not looking foreward to the weakening of barbs or infernals unless if implimented the trophy system includes the ability to turn the trophies on or off. Which would lead to many interesting possibilities.
