@Siptah I can safely say you aren't the only one! I believe that Lautaro is the leader in the blurry pic so I'm thinking that the Mapuche could be in R&F. I can see the Inca selling well as a DLC though even if the Mapuche are in it doesn't necessarily mean the Inca are out of the expansion (if we can have 2 Asian civs I don't the problem of having 2 SA civs). Either way, we know we're getting the Inca sooner or later and adding the Mapuche and Muisca wouldn't change that.
They are one of the four developed nations, as the Spanish called them. The Inca are, rightfully, more famous. Their importance and power is, however, exaggerated in pop culture. They were amazing, but so were Mapuche and Muisca. It‘s also a consideration that we always get the same two of these ‚developed nations‘ (Aztec are the other). The focus on leaders in civ VI benefits the Inca. Calling the Mapuche a goody hut is a strange thing. The fought successfully against the Inca and even the Spanish until 150 years ago.
The Maya on the other hand are required dearly asap, being in a league of their own.

As a supporter of Lautaro, I'd be really pleased to see him in Civ VI. He was actually a fascinating man with a big personality; he had been captured by the Spanish and made to serve the conquistador Valdivia, witnessing him cutting off the hands and feet of his people for resisting Spanish colonization. Lautaro eventually escaped, and finally got his vengeance in the Battle of Tucapel, killing the Spaniard. It's said that he intentionally allowed himself to be captured, and could escape at any time, but chose to stay as a means to obtain more information, which ultimately would allow the Mapuche to triumph against the Spanish during the battle by raising the largest, most organized army the Mapuche had ever known.
Lautaro was a smart and crafty man, and certainly one of the foremost Native American men in history. He has every right to appear in Civ VI.
However, with both the potential of an Incan civ, and with Mongolia already having an ability relating to both espionage and military, I feel it does make Lautaro less likely, which is a shame.
Very excited about the hint today - after the leaks and Georgia's inclusion, I'm not feeling all too confident about any of my choices honestly, and that's really exciting. I'd still bet that Ottomans, Inca, and some African civ are coming next but I really wouldn't be surprised if all three of the last ones were out of left-field.
They could easily, and likely would in some cases for the profit, splinter off a few of the "necessary" civ into DLC for this year so everything's in the air really.

Come on, comparing to Inca they are a goody hut. From the one hand you have a fully established empire with infrastructure, roads, tax system and freaking Machu Picchu etc from the other hand a group of tribes. Its like compairing Rome to Celts. No one say Celts are not interesting but not over/before Rome.
PS. If You looking for some decent alternative for Inca in SA it's Muisca. I would be full ok with them, but Mapuche?

A "group of tribes" who represented one of the most long-running and successful indigenous resistance movements in the Americas. Their achievements against the Spanish are very noteworthy.
Does it change their importance in comparison with Inca?
Ok - they are not goody hut. Sorry everyone who feel bad about this. But still, they are far less interesting and less important than Inca. OK now?

Inca more interesting? That‘s subjective. Inca more important: I think so, too. But not by a magnitude. As I said earlier, their undeniably huge achievements tend to get exaggerated in pop culture while those of others get marginalized (and people tend to forget that the ‚unified Inca empire’ only lasted 3 generations). I‘m not even advocating to skip the Inca completely, just let them be DLC and give us the Muisca or Mapuche in an expansion.
Firaxis likes to include tribes based on a charisma and achievements of their greatest leader. This is why I'm quite confident of seeing Lautaro and Tecumseh and their tribes included as playable civs in the game sooner rather than later.
Agree with your point to a certain point however, definitely not not goody hut category. Compared to the Incan Cultural/Engineering and other Civ-related achievements, definitely lacking. Perhaps with a slight military edge over the Incas though.
