Fight terror with love, says Pope

Pope John Paul II has used his Easter message to call upon the world to cultivate hope in the face of terror.
"May the culture of life and love render vain the logic of death," he said.

He specifically urged world leaders and global institutions to end conflict in Iraq, the Holy Land and Africa.

Ok well thats it, you heard it Bush, Blair, Putin, Al Sadr etc. Youve got your marching orders! The Pope says to end all conflicts! Phew, that was so easy. The Pope should have done this a long time ago and saved everybody alot of heartache. Thanks for the constructive input Pope, that really helps alot!

Wow, you really get the feeling that poking fun at the Pope on Easter is in poor taste, when the "why does NODDY exist" thread gets more replies.

We need a new Pope. That's the last time we appoint a Polish man.

The fact that the pope is polish was incredibly important in the defeat of Communism in Eastern Europe(Communism would fall alone, but by openly supporting Solidariety and the opposition to Communism, the pope no doubt made things quicker)

Everyone loved him until he disagreed with the President.

Popes shouldn't be involved in Western politics. They are spiritual leaders not politicians. They can't force Catholics to be against the liberation of Iraq or anything similar.

On topic, I think it's good for a pope to preach love and peace.

Would you rather if he picked up a rifle and screamed: "Lets kill those bastards!"

That is why he was Pope in the first place. ;)

Did you say that when he spoke out against communism?

No, abstaining from western politics would be fine.

I'm also against the Church getting involved with politics, but since the pope alwasy opposed wars it's only natural that he would oppose the Iraq War.

A message from the Vatican is coming in via morse code...almost got it...heres the message:

B-e-n-i-c-e

Wow (smacks forehead)! Thanks Pope! Thats so helpful:thumbsup:

I didn't as I was too young.

Communism isn't dominent in the west and was against all religous people and was in his homeland. He had the right to oppose it. Communism was never held dear by Catholics. On the other hand, many Catholic do support Bush (More than 40% of US Catholics that voted in 200, voted Bush). The Pope is NOW tampering with people's politics in free nations.

Meaning more than 50% of US Catholics that voted in 2000, voted Gore.

Dumb Pothead: Be easy on Putin - Chechnya isn't in Iraq, the Holy Land, nor Africa.
I thought Id slip him in, since he's been commiting genocide in Chenya for years now. But hey, according to the Pope, its ok, no problemo! As long as its not in Iraq, the Holy Land, or Africa.

On a side note, the Russian navy could never have a ship called The Ritz. If Putin ever went on board, people would say 'Putin on The Ritz'.
