Could you clarify this a bit more? And what you will use it for.

dont need to make new heads or anything like that, just use one from another civ and any random city names and leader names will do and as for what i will use it for is, well im using a earth map and adding civs depending on the year i choose, like the Huge Earth 1900 AD 18 Civs Scenarios and instead of putting the minor civs as barbarian i'd like to put them as minor civ and if i got minor civs for each continent then i wont get the minor civ as a superpower due to the number of cities like in some Scenarios ive seen

So basically you want a civ to represent a region. Like you want Africa to represent areas of Africa you don't populate. Which means you don't want UUs or UBs for them or anything right?

just need gap fillers more than anything and doing a civ for each continent will hopefully stop minor becoming a major due to the number of cities and obviously africa is where one is needed more due to lack of civs for africa in civ4 and number of civs in africa and no i dont need any uus or ubs for them for what im going to use them for no point really.

We have several African civs in CIV Gold. If you place them on a map of Africa, they won't grow too large due to competing space. Obviously, some will grow due to conquest, but that's true regardless of the setup.

i know, ive been using them but theres 53 countries in africa so 7 doesnt really cover it and i want to make a earth map set in a certain times of history including today so i dont want them to grow because that wouldnt be accurate ;)

But could you separate Mande into Ghana and Songhai, etc.? And add say Benin and Kanem Bornu etc?

Kanem Bornu is in already and Benin is being added to 5.0, along with the Garamentes (saharan civ) and Kitara Empire (Uganda).

Yes, the Mande could be separated. Let me look into it.

aob86,

Firaxis offers Mali, Ethiopia, Carthage, Egypt and the Zulus in Africa (5).

Gold adds Mande, Kanem-Bornu, Garamentes, Benin, Maghreb, Nigeria, Togo, Congo, Malagasy, Khoisan, Mutapa, Maasai, Somalia, Nubia and South Africa (15).

So that's 20 overall. Considerably more than 7. ;)

i was only quoting you my friend you said "several" ;)
and only say half could be used for modern africa, dont get me wrong golds a great mod, i couldnt make what i want to without it and gold has lets face it more african civs than any other mod and no one least me expects for there to be lots of african civs, i'd just prefer to have a "minor" civ instead of barb or nearby civs to cover up the gaps thats all nothing personnal against gold lol :p

When is 5 BTW? I want you to take a long time, make it the best possible, but I also want it out before the sun turns into a useless lump of coal.

No, no, I was just going into some detail because if you had seen an older copy of Gold, I wanted to clarify that there have been a lot of civs added. We made a point of paying attention to Africa and Asia, so I didn't want that to be lost. :)

At any rate, your point about "minor" civs is a good one, and we tried a long time ago to write some code that would allow us to mimick the relative strength of nations over time. Obviously Rhys' mod does that but we were seeking something simpler.

Here's a suggestion - created multiple barb civs. Create a modded CivInfo.xml that replicates BARBARIANS (maybe BARB_1, BARB_2, etc.). The LHs don't change, and they retain the Barb properties, but they can be uniquely named with separate UU replacements and/or techs. Just a thought.

Soon. We are putting the finishing touches on the "Nature of Man" expansion (finally), with 5.0 coming soon after.

yes for me minor civ is something always missing in mods but as you said you need something simpler and i dunno if i a minor civ for each continent is a good idea but it just seemed something simple and if i requested it would be something easy for someone to make for me and easy to add into a mod for use. interesting idea about barbarians, i will give it some thought thanks.

p.s looking forward to gold 5, hope to see more civs ;)

Just out of curiosity, Wyz, how much research went into programing the LeaderheadInfos.xml tags to their respective real life historical personalities? Gold is a huge mod with alot of Civilizations, so I am just wondering... did you mostly simply copy like minded leaders and tweak their characteristics, or was there alot more attention to detail when it came to leaderhead personalities and how they act as the AI?

Fair question. To be honest, the MO to date has been exactly as you assumed - copy like-minded leaders and tweak their traits (primarily wonder const., intial reaction, espionage, flavors, etc.).

On our radar is a review of the LH xml files to try and nail them a little better, but to be honest, to do the research and get the detailed numbers right requires a huge time investment and it's questionable if the payoff is worth it. If anyone wants to volunteer to review some of them, I'd gladly accept the help. But I'm not sure we'll be drilling down on each one any time soon.

The bottom-line question is whether the average user would appreciate the detail in the minutia in any case. So long as we don't confuse Pol Pot with Ghandi, we're probably in the ball park. :)

These have probably been requested before...
