I am indifferent about it. However I will say this:

Some people seem to think that a high post number earns you a better reputation. Better may not always be the term to use, but it does earn you a reputation... of some kind.

Why would the default be off when most people like them? Changes like that are usually to give the minority another option, not the majority.

All I want is an option in our User CP - if we can get that, I think we can all go away happy (I would have it on for default, like avatars and sigs).

I'd be careful, people got mighty pissed when I tried to point out extralong sigs awhile back. Though that effort lead to one of my favorite sigs. (the don't have long signatures one that I had to shorten becuase it was too long, lol at that unintended comedy)

We'll keep postcounts visible in posts for now, although in the future we may replace it with a different system that gives a good indication of a poster's postcount level, but doesn't display the actual postcount number.
