PPQ Flavor Module

And we're back with another exciting entry. This time coming to us from the realm of the boy king.

Let me ask you. Have you ever been to the lands of the Kuoritates? If so, have you ever looked at those lovely scantly clad snake women and wondered: "Geez. They sure is nice looking mages. But how would they look undead?"

Spoiler Wonder no more :

I love the idea but there are a things that don't work very well i think, 1) the skull seems a bit too large ( though that may only be me, and 2) the white of it looks weird with the very dark grey of the scales imo

It's not scales, it's clothing. You can see that very well and obviously on the original model for several reasons including but not limited to the fact they are color coded by rank and that they wear belts. If the bottom piece was their natural scales they would not need to wear a belt to hold it up and it most certainly would not change color as they advance in their job.

As for the head it's a reskin of the original with the hair removed. So it can't really be too large unless the original head is too large as well.

Basically the lamia model is completely borked up skin vise and I can't attach or swap so much as a tiny spec of exteriors mesh onto it. So a reskin like this is as good as it's gong to get sadly.

That's a shirt.

Not that I had too much choice with that one either, even though it was just a skin job. Basically my choice was either plain cloth or something textured like that and plain cloth just looks bad with the gold. And I really get rid of the gold without making it obvious that the model still has breasts which a skeletal undead shouldn't. This way it at gets excused as being a ceremonial gold breast piece that she wears even though she needn't technically.

Seriously, this model is just pure grief and nothing but grief. I wanted to use the thing for several projects but they're all out the window after the pain it's put me through to even get this done.

It's late and I have a unit half done. So here are a few beta images. The units here are based off mongol styles but painted the way of the Kuoritates, in particular their Centaur Guard UU. Tell me what you think. Any good or should I quit and rethink?

Also, note that this being beta some features will be tweaked like for example the shield on the champion which currently is not sitting well. But I don't want to fiddle about with it for half a hour to get it just right if you don't like the art direction.

Very nice stuff you are doing.
I especially love the Clockwork Knight with a winder in the back. Of course it looks crazy from a real life perspective but is perfect in a fantasy mod

Do you do leaderheads too?

Not really. Basically the only thing I can't get working is to make a mesh in max, rig id to bones and than export it to a nif and actually have it work. And that's basically what leaderheads are.

And either way, I am not sure I would be at all happy at my work being used for anything AND related due to the fact that the mod has a design philosophy that I can not be seen endorsing on grounds of moral conviction.

Here is another beta image. I've been asked to do an armored Mazatl unit and this is as far as I got. But like I am not super satisfied with it. More like 60-70%. So if anyone has any suggestions now is the time.

Spoiler Mazatl Champion. And yes, that is a greek style muscle cuirass. :

I concur. But I have no idea on what color would work. I tried green and it looks like they are nude. I tried blue and it didn't work.

As far as colors go I prefer to keep the base units on all "good" and "neutral" factions in grays and than evil factions will get dark colors. And I reserve pure black and gold and such colors for Paladins and similar special units. So like the yellow variant you see on their leader is what I'd give the paladin if this gets that far.

As for metal leggings I can try it. But right now I'd want to get the pants in cloth right because I'd be using the same armor texture for ranged units, cavalry etc. and some of those won't get metal armor all over.

I love your pistolero hunter.

About Mechanos paladin. Since they're not actually worshiping any gods to recieve holy power, instead they're worshipping the machine spirits. Maybe you could add a machine spirit's "shrine" : A steam/clockwork backpack in place of their cape? It might turn them into a ridiculous looking WH40K space marines tho.

Maybe brown? If you want to add clothes on it anyway.

But do lizard-men need clothes and shoes? They have harder skin with scales. I can't imagine lizard men wearing clothes with the same purpose as humans. So being nude under is okay imo.

Strictly speaking they don't. But medieval battlefield clothes were not really clothes but more like light armor as they were thick layers of cloth padding that could and did act in a protective way. They were both reasonably difficult to cut and stab through and could absorb blows from maces and such effectively. And whilst they were not as good as metal of course they were much lighter and cheaper. That's why you'd see archers and such carry them.

And since all lizardmen humanoid units actually use the same model and thus the same texture template I want to use this one unit as a way to experiment with various bits and bobs that I'll than mix and match to make the lizardmen unit style in general. So nailing a good color scheme for the cloth parts of the armor is essential. Especially since I can't really attach anything to the torso or pelvis/upper leg sections of them on account of the fact that the bones are odd so armored skirts are out of the question.

But I do intend to leave a lot of open arms and legs on the lighter units in the melee and archer line. So like the swordsman would be this unit but with naked arms and legs and no helmet. And conversely the paladin would be similar but with way more plate armor.

Speaking of parts. How do the breastplate and helmet look?

The leg thing is annoying to hell though. Like, does any of you happen to know any nif that has a neck bone? Because the way this lizardmen is set up is spine->spine1->neck-> arms where as a normal civ model is spine->spine1-> head/arms so I can't transplant anything. And I really want to at least cover up their genital region with a skirt if I can.
