Pre-EkoNES: Fall From Heaven

Don't hurry on my account. Most of the people that should know, do - just make sure that it's done right for the real thing for lurkers/extras, and it'll be fine.

I've played around with OneNote a bit. It's fun, but less useful that I thought it would be when I first got it. Maybe I'd use it more if I lugged my laptop around everywhere, who knows?

I used to use OneNote to keep my college notes organised. I find that I just can't look after huge stacks of paper notes, and the search ability of OneNote is amazing when you compare it to digging your way through folder after folder looking for some obscure note. The trouble is keeping it up all year though. I agree that it always seems a lot more useful then it probably is though.

This is a little random, but I stopped to catch up on this thread (I am paying attention) and saw Diamondeye's avatar. I thought Kael had taken up NESing and was very surprised.

yeah- i fell for it too.

I fell for it twice

I fell for it 3 times. :p

No, really only twice. This and the thing with Thomas' sphener icon have trained me to always look at name, even if the avatar is much more pretty.

Ekolite:
any chance you could get your but on messenger?

It's a great map but I want to whine on two points:
1) It's too big. Doesn't fit my screen given my screen resolution. Scrolling is a real pain.
2) I don't like the huge mountain range in the middle of the continent. I don't like these in general, I prefer them near coasts (more realistic), as most of the other mountain ranges are.

1) i'll spoiler it.
2) i thought it was two continental plates coming together... i tried to be very realistic. notice the water and wetness is mostly to the west of the ranges (i assumed the world turns the same direction as earth) and drier regions more to the east.

I like the map, but I agree that scrolling is a pain (while I also agree that scrolling is a acceptable pain to me).

I like these mountain ranges, nice ambush/choke points

P.S. Immaculate: Erebus is flat, but I guess you can make an alternate dimension

Point is the map shouldn't need scrolling to have a global view of the world. I know most NESes use hyper big spoilered Earth maps, but they don't allow one to see the whole map at once and therefore I think they are bad. I'd have to copy the image at every update, paste it and reduce the size to be able to use it.

It could be. I agree that the other mountain ranges and the rivers are very nice. I just don't like the big blob which cuts the whole continent in two, but it could indeed be Himalaia-like.

The thing is, Ldi, everyone has different resolution monitors. Who's to say just how "big" the limit should be set? Maybe someone our there is still working off 480X640.

Thus, I say let the mapmaker go as big as they want. Granted, you probably want to set a bit of a limit - DL times can be annoying, and having to scroll 18 screens might be a bit much - but this one doesn't seem too bad to me. It's actually narrower than the one for FFHNESII, I believe - and smaller overall than the one for FFHNESI.

Oh - and yeah, mountain ranges don't have to be near coasts. They often are, but some of them aren't - the main part of the Rockies are actually pretty far from the coast, the Appalachians are the same, the Urals as well...

Now, not being an actual player I don't have a huge stake in what it looks like - but it looks pretty. Personally, I like slightly smaller scales, but that's just because I like smaller, more personal and family-friendly empires.

i sent ekolite the original paintshop map with all the layers so if he wants to post a smaller one during the actual game he can.

i should point out that i didn't do the whole map- the outlines of all major landmasses, islands and lakes were supplied by ekolite (as well as a general idea of what he wanted) - i just made the textures and stuff. (i didn't want to claim credit for something i didn't do)
