Pre-Order Brave New World

A lot of folks are going to wait and order or pre-order from Steam. What are the advantages to ordering from Steam? Genuinely curious.

Easy to buy, you get to download it as soon as it becomes available, and it usually is 10% off (or something similar) if you pre-order it.
Mostly, people are lazy and excited, so they want to get the game as soon as possible, with as little effort as possible!

Exactly. I would say it is just convenience and habit.

I check the Steam website almost every day. I put all of my games in a box in the basement after I converted. Between the big sales and occasional promotions, I have picked up steam copies of almost everything I own physical media for. It is just easier.

I know I could preorder the media/box or even go up to Best Buy on release day, but I don't really care about the box. Just something else taking up space in a box in the basement. :D

You probably already know about steam, but I like that I don't have to worry about managing play discs, key codes, patches, or even whether the game is installed or not. Before I would reload my PC and then spend the weekend reinstalling stuff and downloading patches, .....etc. Now I just install steam and click on whatever I want to play. Yes, its not perfect. If you try to install a big game on the weekend, it may take a little while. I normally try to install stuff during the week. Even so, the weekends aren't that bad. I can normally click install on a big game and its downloaded before I finish making lunch.

Has anyone ordered from GamingDragons before? Do they in fact release the license code so we can download from Steam on release day in our USA time zone? How reliable are they? The price is attractive, but it means nothing if I end up having to wait a few days before I can access the game.

A small update from the Dutch Free Record Shop. Although it's officially bankrupt the site has a notice that orders from the webshop will be delivered anyways. You're also still able to buy or pre-order stuff. I also got a mail telling me I will recieve my order in July.

I'm still sceptical but changes are we will get our order. I'd still advice not to pre-order the game at Free Record shop for the difference of 6-7 euros.

All I know about them is that I sent them a question 2 weeks ago, and haven't got an answer as of yet...

Do you get anything for pre-ordering? I mean, it's not like Steam is going to sell out of copies.

Sadly no, as they would've announced a bonus by now, which is a shame. The only however positive about pre-ordering is that you gonna unlock it quicker (as it will start downloading the moment Steam/Devs give it the greenlight).

I pre-ordered from Gamingdragons and saved $5; we'll see if it pans out on release day. (Crosses fingers)

Pre-order option has finally shown up in Poland. Muve.pl, the official store of Cenega, made it available today. Free shipping in Poland.

Muve.pl 89,99 PLN (~27,50 USD)

Another small update from the Free Record Shop in Holland?

"N.a.v. de berichtgeving in de media over Free Record Shop Nederland:
ECI Holding is eigenaar van de Free Record Shop webshop en staat buiten het faillissement. Alle online bestellingen worden gewoon uitgeleverd. Helaas kan er momenteel geen gebruik gemaakt worden van de FRS cadeaucard."

Losely translated it sais that the webshop isn't part of the company that has been declared bankrupt and that everything that has been ordered will be delivered. In my personal opinion it would be safe to pre-order the game here if you'd like to save 5 euros or more...

I'm a little wary as GnK in Poland had a 2-week delay and I ended up ordering on Steam anyway.

It did? I bought the game initially from 3kropki.pl and they did have some vaguely described issues issues (avoid that store, seriously; it was their 2nd and final f-up with my orders) but the same day I was informed about the delay, I ordered the expansion in Muve Digital and got it 15 seconds later ;) I would prefer to use Steam as well, however I expect the game to be priced at ~30€ which is 50% more than Muve's price. Moreover, a digital version should appear shortly, 10-20% cheaper, and I think I'll be switching to it as I have no use of boxes and dvds.

Dunno what is the policy about advertising of online shops on the forum, nevertheless I must say that I'm going to stick up with Muve. XCom (digital) was delayed one day and as compensation I got one bonus copy of the game. Both came with free Civ5s so it was the 2nd Christmas for my friends ;)

I find it funny that, despite being an expansion pack to a game that requires Steam, this isn't up for preorder on Steam. It's not even in the "coming soon" section yet, despite that section housing games that won't come out till 2014.

Yes it does seem strange. You'd like to think that it is STEAM simply supporting it's dealers by allowing them a free run at selling their pre-order deals to the market so that everyone makes a bit of cash but it isn't that. Probably just laziness or not being aware of the market which seems odd with CIV5 being constantly in the most played games every week.

God knows.

But it's already in Steam DB. Soоn TBA, I suppose.

Well, the boxed version had the delay. From what you're saying it seems that the digital version didn't. But in that case there is no difference to buying on steam, really.
