Pre-YuiNES 2 - The Modern World

No, Kim Jong-il, and what he represents, is not the lesser evil. Less dangerous than Chavez, maybe.

No, Kim Jong-il, and what he represents,

Homosexuality?

Sitting around in underwear drinking beer is a sign of masculinity. And besides, only the South Koreans say 'No Dong'. November Kilos use Rodong. :p

He's barely got any body hair, pun definitely intended.

Well he's hairy for a Korean. And Korean's are nataurally gay you know. I once knew a North Korean spy and he had a binder where he wrote Man on Man. And he wore pink shirts. I think that says much about the country's sexuality. They are a free society. The freest!

So all of Iran's homosexuals are in North Korea? Clearly an Axis of Evil.

North Korea has no dissent of course, all its prisoners are… detained by the North Korean border :)

How long until this starts?

I can't find anything stating when this starts on the front page or lately- to be fair, I haven't checked through the thread.

North Korea has plenty of real dissent actually. Kim was almost overthrown several times in the '90's, basically the only thing that shocked him into allowing food aid from the UN. You know things are bad when soldiers are getting edema from starvation in their barracks, when their digestive systems are so poor they can not digest a small ration of pork without dieing from diarrhea.

Whoah I just depressed myself :(

Try the page before this one.

I remember reading some time ago, that band of North Korean soldiers would basically travel the countryside stealing extorting food from the peasants.

I've said this before: not everyone conforms to the default 20 posts/page.

Anyways: Argh! We could just let his regime collapse, but instead, we bail him out.

I have max posts per page. And that's not my problem.

I'm not sure a military dictatorship is much better than Little Kim's dictatorship.

Sorry about the dissent issues everyone, will correct.

3 million people (roughly 15% of the population, depending on who you ask) died of starvation in the '90s. Proportionally the worst famine of all time. That was WITH eventual aid from the WFP.

This is a regime perfectly willing to let whole segments of a population die out so they can keep power. It was when Party cadres and parts of the military (aka Kim's power base) started feeling it that North Korea cared. When the WFP started sending food, the UN basically allowed the North Koreans to COMPLETELY handle the distribution of food themselves (the "Public Distribution System"). The food rarely got to the poorest parts of the country and was systematically diverted first to the military (who was handling the distribution) then to the people based on loyalty to the regime.

But eventually food DOES reach them, even if it's meager compared to what they should get. If the UN just up and leaves, your leaving millions more right on the brink of starvation. Kim will keep power, food or not, until he dies most likely. The ROK does the same type of policy, light appeasement with slow nudges to reform ("Special Economic Zones"), although they have much more impact on NK policy than the UN could ever dream. North Korean propaganda has even started to remove South Korea from it's list of evil, oppressive capitalistic countries (that was sooo 70's anyway).

The fact that there are NK-apologists is one of the things that makes me lose faith in humanity. Then I get over it :p

Don't listen to these Amerikan Neo-Imperialist Slave driving Swine!

Juche has made North Korea the happiest nation in the world, the North Korean people do not need quaint Capitalist concepts like GDP or Freedom to measure themselves by, they need to show their discipline, unwavering faith to the nation and to the Dear Leader, everything else is secondary to the Dear Leader and Generalissimo Kim Jong Il!!

See Yui does not believe your Imperialist Lies! and Reactionary Propaganda! North Korea has 1% dissent, those 1% of traitors to the Fatherland of course need to be dealt with (politely far away from sensitive ears).

Note: Azale, read the sarcasm in my statement, "North Korea has no dissent of course, all its prisoners are… detained by the North Korean border" just in case you missed it, the joke is North Korea is a prison...

Now death to America, and the Japanese Imperialist, Swine, Murdering War Criminals, Baby Eating, Swine Lovers!

A few days later an anonymously addressed videotape arrives which has nothing but a montage of nuclear silo doors opening, set to the training music from Rocky.
