I expected they would send their troops to france as they are on the same continent.
yeah, that's what i thought too, i woulda done the same thing prolly, sign in France for the alliance, just didnt work like it usually does, course if it had not been AC's it would not have mattered so much, spears would have posed no attack risk, archers easily killed.
Anyway, sorry for keeping this all weekend, I played it a few hours ago but then had to deal with some RL issues, in the meantime, I lost my turn log. I'll do my best to remember what happened.
Before I get to my busy turns, I think our rep is already trashed, I tested the market to buy a tech since I had left research at minimum and "they would never accept such a deal" I figure what happened is whenever Persia or America declared on us it broke a deal we had or something. One of the drawbacks of this game, sometimes your rep is trashed with no fault of your own. This means if we want to buy techs we will have to get creative.
In 90 AD Canton flipped to Persia, taking me by suprise. Instead of focusing on attacking Pasargadae, I refocused retaking Canton. In the meantime, I fortified the spear army a couple cats and archer outside Pasagardae. Reclaimed Canton with no units lost, however, this upset my positioning of troops for later which allowed the disastrous Persian landing of 2 AC on a hill outside Beijing.
This landing happened just as I was prepared to take Pasargadae having 4 cats and a few archers to accompany the spear army. I could not get enough units to Beijing to defend, a couple of attacks failed miserably. After much deliberation I decided to empty Chengdu of all units hoping they would take that instead & leave Beijing alone. Took Pasargadae & generated a leader, immediately formed an army, although that might not have been the best thing to do, loaded no units into the army.
Persian ACs took Chengdu & left everything else untouched. Decided to refocus efforts on reclaiming Chengdu, did not want to let Persia get a foot hold on our island. Left Spear army & a couple archers in Persia to make mayhem, I also figured Pasargadae would flip back to Persia (for some reason I neglected to starve the city down, this needs to be done, sorry)
Things got real interesting as I rallied troops against the 2 ACs in Chengdu, bombardment revealed the city also had a spear just a couple turns later. A couple persian galleys entered & left the city at times, prolly bringing reinforcements. Then America offloaded some units near Trondheim.
At this point I completely scrapped anything that did not involve defending our island, changed some builds to get more units / cats, built a few more spears than I normally would, mostly because I was expecting those ACs to leave Chengdu & attack in other areas before I could kill them off.
I was able to eliminate the American threat without their doing any harm, after killing off the last unit, I negotiated peace with them for some gold, they would not give a tech.
Next my plan was to finish off the Persian hold in Chengdu, no easy task, but I finally reclaimed the city, with no losses on our side thanks to our cats. There is another Persian galley just off the coast near Copenhagen, I would be wary of it. Trying to use units to play zone defense against future landings. Witrh all the ferrying of units here and there, I never got around to rescuing that archer / cat by Stockholm.
Odense, that city by the Vikings new home, flipped to the VIkings.
My thoughts: eliminate Persia altogether, I think we can defend our island by playing zone defense and send all our cats along with several archers back to Persia. There are 2 lux there, ivory in Pasargadae & wines in another city. If we dont eliminate Persia, the cities will eventually flip back.
I never built any settlers, one just finished this turn (I ended as soon as I reclaimed Chengdu from Persia) but we do need to finish settling our island. We also need improved infrastructure, I managed to finally get irrigation down near our starting spot, we also need markets, though libraries are questionable.
While we deal with the Persian problem, hopefully we can stay at peace with everyone else and concentrate on some of these issues, war seems to be getting in the way of things.
In the attached pic, I highlighted a plan that should get us both horses & iron. We have one settler built, another is being built in Oslo, which is basically useless, perhaps we should rush that one. Then we can send those settlers to the unclaimed island which has a horse & 2 iron, send a few workers (alternatively found on the resources & rush harbors in each city), rush a harbor, there's a sea route, we have the Lighthouse (as long as Trondheim doesnt flip). Our Army is fortified on our home island, I was thinking if this could be accomplished and if it could be accomplished quickly we would have much better units available to load in it.
