So, the world is currently dominated by the US. The US can invade any country it feels like and no one counterattacks. For example, Germany invaded parts of Europe in WW2 and Britain, the Free French, the US, and the USSR fought it. No one is fighting the US because of its invasion of Iraq.

Some people think of the US as trying to control the world. This accusation is not without merit. If the US wasn't trying to do it, someone else would. Britain succeeded and fell apart after a while, and the USSR tried to compete with the US.

In the future, who would you prefer to be the overlord of the planet?

Spoiler :

Yes, I'm calling the US the overlord of the planet today, but primarily in jest.

The E.U for sure. the U.S controlling the world would be a disaster.

EU domination seems a lot like US domination, except the EU is less willing to start a war, so I'd go with that.

I actually would not prefer the U.S as an overlord.

I cant imagine what would happen if neo-cons took control of the earth.

So i actually would vote for the E.U since they are more rational.

My nation.

the usa can barely control iraq what hope could it have of controlling the world?

India because its about time we dominated the world again and screwed the white men over.

I don't like overlords. Even if you said I could be the overlord, I think centralization is a terrible idea. I'd vote for aliens, but I really just want everybody to stop trying to tell each other what to do. Why don't we have a pouting smiley?

The EU's naiivete (sp?) scares the willies out of me, and I trust the US version of democracy better than anywhere else.

No one country can control the whole world. It's a good thing this is a hypothetical scenario.

Amd statements like that are why no-one else would vote for India

The EU's naivete?! The US has a naivete rating of the average British 7 year old.

*raises hand*

I meant this thread as 50% hypothetical scenario and 50% real.

The US has economically, militarily, and culturally dominated large chunks of the world for a while. The US dominance will only dwindle in the future, because Americans like electing dumbasses. So, I'm asking you, since the US will not necessarily keep its role as top dog, who would you prefer to rule over you? Some other country, probably in our lifetimes, will show the ability to take over world dominance from the US. China is the most likely one in my opinion.

I'll take the US since the EU likes to outlaw speech.

I disagree with that. Although we do enjoy putting idiots in charge, that's not what's going to end it. It's usually overexpansion that takes down the superpowers. The US is no exception. The citizenry insists on using its influence, whether they pick an idiot or not, we're going to expand until we collapse. (Obviously colonialism is not the only way to expand. I'm talking more about McDonald's in India and giant embassies in Baghdad.)

The citizenry?! What! Hell no, it's not the citizenry! The American people elected Bush to power, and he and his administration wanted a war. Once the president is in power, the will of the people mean squat.

Economic expansion should have no detrimental effect to a country. How does opening new US stores in country X hurt the US? What is bad about economic expansion?

I for one will welcome our alien overlords.
