Prepare to cringe - bad maps (deity)

Will check it out!
But in generall:
Spoiler :

I find that academy in Iso is almost always worth it either you got a good capital and then it's worth it in it's own right. Or you got rather bad land and an OK capital, but in that case, things self-regulate so that you get optics later, and then you got more time to get the two other astro-bulbers out.

With GSpy points complicating things, I'm not entierly sure how to think though.

Yup, Gspy points are no issue here.
With only 2/turn all other cities get their GS first, unless i would hire scientists in Cap but it can work cottages instead and build stuff for later.

In general only the first great person must be avoided there, also hurts if Cap is only good for scientists but i can do without them.

Updating my game before opening yours @Fippy
Spoiler T100 :

Only got 2-3 turns of ToAr, fortunatly I did prioritize landing a few chops, so this carries me to aesteth and about two thirds to litterature.
Civ4ScreenShot0003.JPG

At litterature, starting to think that I can say that silver city was a mistake by now. Only very recently I got the gold improved.
Landing alot of chops right away, up at 7 workers now but still I have trouble getting even the most basic stuff as getting Old Sarai chops for a granary and farms/cottages. Horse/Jumbos around Ning is also unimproved.

Reached IW, have racked up quite alot of failgold now, but now they don't want to finish SoZ/Parth it seems.

@Fippy
Spoiler :

It could be an option to save up 3 scientists and bulb optics+2astro. (That path requires alpha+math).
Capital would benefit alot from alpha, especially if trying to avoid running specialists.
Not sure how much math would give you at this point though.
So that path is abit iffy...

Forge+Harbour will take some hammers, and perhaps two explorers after that? Triremes to be upgraded?
Getting a bunch of swords doesn't hurt either, they can tag along later on. So I think you are correct that capital can do without specialists.

If you go for academy, Ning-Hsia can relax and grow abit, (although have to take care so capital doens't catch up).
Beshebalik who have to be super dillegant with running specialists.
If running 2 of them every turn, the third scientist would be out T143?
That seems early enough for me. Probably have to be really lucky to have gotten optics, met the others and gotten calendar etc before that.
I would also finish MC first, and save cash after that, so forges can be started.

Spoiler T133 :

The game was kind enough and didn't give me that ~1% odds artist, and I got a GSci. If only I run two scientists here, I'll get two more before T132.
Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

Sustained beakers is 56 at the moment, so I just settle this scientist. Gives me a nice boost here and now.
Civ4ScreenShot0001.JPG

I just landed 4 chops into parthenon in Nihg-Hsia last turn, making it whipable. And it does look kind of attractive tbh. With that up, I can get 3 more GPersons here before T140. And I can bump that up even more with a hired engineer too if I want.
Civ4ScreenShot0002.JPG

Another reason to get this built right away, is that it guarantees that I get some failgold right away. The AIs are taking a long time to finish it, it seems.

Civ4ScreenShot0003.JPG

270 right away, that enables me to run 100% again, woo hoo!
Civ4ScreenShot0004.JPG

And abit later, soemone finishes SoZ, now I'm loaded!
Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

Up at optics T133. Have two scientists ready, didn't get screwed by rng thankfully.
Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

Trying to take this opportunity to grow Turfan to pop2!
Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

I like this GPerson generation! If I'm lucky perhaps chemistry could even be double-bulbed?
Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG

Screwed up totally here. I had a forge carefully prepared at 59/120, and some hammers into a lighthouse too.
And with population at 6, I was 2 turns prior to optics planning to do a 2pop whip of the forge, then do a 2pop whip of the lighthouse next turn and get enough overflow to 1turn a caravel.
Well.. I realized my mistake just as I was about to whip the forge.. It costs 3 pop to whip a forge at 59/120. :D
Oh well. I'll have to lay of the fish 1 turn next turn to finish it I think.
I think this city is best to finish heroic in..?

Glib and NE certainly made your game more exciting than mine Krikav, i somewhat blinked on marble and totally forgot about it.
But i guess we can compare dates when i continued, not much time today.

I'm fiddling around with an other map right now. That brings me up to... 4 games open in total.
Seem to have a hard time finishing games right now. :D

Do you like the parthenon-whip..? I'm not entierly convinced about it, but could be nice. In these awful maps the value of GPeople increases even more.

Settle 1W. Mining -> Bronze -> fishing
Worker (mine plains hill) -> Settler -> warrior

?

@Nick723
Spoiler :

I scouted north or north-west with warrior to see if it could make sense to settle on some of those hills.
Ended up settling in place and teching fishing.
Started worker, teched fishing, built a workboat, grew to pop2 (2 hammers in worker decayed) then finished worker.

Might be better options, but thats what I did. :)

It would make a miserable capital long term but settling PH and going settler first might have some merit? Second city shares/takes clams and builds the workboats. Capital at size 5 with 3 farms and 2 grass hills can produce 8 turn settlers with imperialistic…

Hopefully after second city, fishing and BW +/- archery some better spots show nearby…

Waste a few turn scouting with the settler is what I would do.

1. Find Augustus
2. Settle in face
3. ...
4. Victory :goodjob:

@krikav could you unbuffy the save please

Might give this a whirl soon, but I really hate low sea level. Yeah it makes the game harder, but it's not what I like to consider a standard game. You could also make any map harder by playing quick speed, for instance.

First thing that stands out to me is settling 1W and going settler first. With IMP and a big river for instant trade routes, I think this makes the best of a bad situation.

@Fippy

I see that.... during my rather long hiatus away, you took over the role of sharing BAD maps. Good job! I am downloading some of these for my offline game enjoyment. Thanks! ^_^

Did you give it a whirl...?
I replayed the opening yesterday to see if I would have abit more luck... but I had worse. :D
Pondering if I should just delete the game from this thread to avoid having it resurface in the future...

Anyone have some other cringe-worthy map to share? :)

Rolled this one a few weeks ago. I'm fairly confident this one is unwinnable (made a couple of attempts & it wasn't even close), but it's very much in the spirit of this thread.

Settings are a bit unusual (Fractal, Large, High seas, Epic, NTT, No Vassals), but none of that's relevant if you can't make it to 1AD. Also made a WB save if you wanna try it with normal settings (bumping up the speed isn't gonna make it any easier).

Reminds me of this map (which was already pretty hard) : https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/deitymania-2-lincoln.602160/

Spoiler first attempt :

Sent the scout West looking for an excuse not to settle on the edge, found some pigs, settled 2NW.
Went AH-Wheel-Writing-Mining-BW-Pottery-Math(bulb)-HBR-Archery (to play it safe you probably want to go Archery earlier). 1 worker, 2 stables (single stable could be better but lots of extra growth & nothing to whip for a long time).
20230621084248_1.jpg

Aimed to capture the Mids & switch into Rep to solve the unhappiness issue & keep whipping, but I got slaughtered before I could take it. Reloaded, built up for a few more turns, took the city, gave him Corinth in the peace deal (also helps clear the whip anger). But now his culture would prevent me from reinforcing Beshbalik. Kept whipping everything and DoW'd again, but I just couldn't build enough units.

I didn't play particularly well so there's room for improvement, but most cities being on hills & HAs getting slaughtered in the open by Keshiks makes the whole thing a mess. Could probably beeline the soft(ish) jungle cities, but not sure how that would help win the war long-term.

I replayed the map settling Athens on the PH, which might be a bit stronger, but you really have to rush with the second city to grab the pigs before GK. As it stands I think moving west on T0 is best, especially with no map knowledge.
