Preparing for a possible invasion.

I haven't looked at the save but from the screenie, I say we declare in game and knock out those two MW's. If we're lucky we'll still be able to prevent any more from landing next turn. At least we will force them west.

I do not think we will take a rep hit with the other teams. They know BABE is out for blood and their landing justifies our dow.

I still think we need to shut off research as soon as we finish chem - and we should consider stretching that out a bit. We need to seriously consider letting FREE research metallurgy. We also need education to obsolete GONG's Spybrary. No use in holding off now.

We should also ask for an extension.

Now let's just hang on a sec... Those two MW can't really do any harm until BABE declares war on us. We could take a gamble, and NOT declare war. simply surround the MW's, and move other units up the coast to the west to prevent a second landing site.

This would force BABE to land all of their forces onto that one tile. They wouldn't declare on us until they were ready, giving us an opportunity to continue to build up forces all around them, especially inside The Nursery. Their stack would be confined to that one spot, and as long as The Nursery doesn't fall, we can hold them off. :hmm:

I'm just not sure we need to declare war right now - what's the worst case scenario if we don't declare? How can we counter that scenario? The War Weariness will be huge if we declare, based on the experiences of the first MTDG.

EDIT: if we reach a consensus, there's no need to ask for an extension. The psychological effect is pretty big! It implies that we saw this coming, and have a plan at the ready... we do, don't we? :twitch:

If we let them land another 8 or 10 units on that same tile I see two problems:

1) They may have spears or pikes in the mix making it more difficult for us to get at their offensive units.

2) By letting them declare war on us they get the first attack. Our defense is composed of mobile units that are better on the attack than on defense. We need to hit them when they land.

War weariness could be trouble for us. Another reason to shut off research - we can then up the lux slider. We could entice SABER to declare war on BABE if that would help give BABE war weariness in the long run. SABER needs our techs and is impervious to BABE landings so they can be bought.

I see nothing wrong with an extension. This is a surprise and we should make it known to all that we did not expect BABE to land when we had a peace treaty!

This absolutely breaks the treaty - there is just no chance that this is anything but aggression.

Whack 'em with AC - we have 3 extra horse to cover landings, too.

and yes - I think we should ask for an extension, especially with the long weekend and our minister of propaganda on temporary leave.

I'll compose some trial emails to various teams we could send.

It's absolutely no alternative for me to let them land another shipload. :nono:

I'm absolutely sure Wotan would not hesitate to attack us. Maybe even next turn if we leave his two MW healthy. This contractual obligation guy is just going wild and The BABEs are already the bad guys in this game, making them even more dangerous.

Leaving them healthy just means we lose two defenders. :old:

I'm not available today for discussion, an extension sounds good to me.

Do I understand correctly that they landed without declaring in-game? In any case we cannot let them land more troops there. That means we have to declare and have to give them the advantage of war happiness. Talk about abusing game mechanics... I must say I find this rather disgusting, and in a 1-1 game I would not accept this kind of unsportsmanlike behavior.

Perhaps it is our time to open a thread in the UN forum about us quitting because of foul play. We have every reason to. Personally I would be in favor.

No, let's not fall to their level. We knew all along it could come to this, so let's just play along. We can kill them diplomatically after this, so what would a bit of war happiness mean? If we kill their units, they won't have that happiness left for long anyway.

I have to agree with Niklas on this.

Who didn't expect Wotan to ignore sportsmanship after they had their plans thwarted by some "unsporting" Saber behaviour.

No matter what they do, we shouldn't drop to their extremely bottom kind underground low level.

Allright, that was just a rant... :crazyeye:

I suggest we attack them, but first check if they can land anywhere else. If they can, don't attack, but simply block those tiles, to force them to put their forces on that space.

Could someone please post a screenshot?

If there's already one in another thread, nevermind.

btw - either BABE is just landing to get War Happiness, or they are just being stupid (landing 2 units that are going to just get chewed up???

in any case, we will be at war and, eventually, they will land a force we can't wipe out on landing.

We need some muskets to cover out AC/horseys.

Or it could be a feint...

Or it could be a feint...

We should not wait to find that out... :shake:

The second wave could be 12 units iirc. We should be able to whipe them out, too. But then we won't be able to block our coast and the third wave might occupy mountains... :mischief:

I wonder if we should leave a couple of horses on the other side of our continent just in case?

Do we have a galley to act as a lookout north by northwest of the Lookout? At the other sealane that is probable for an alternative invation force.

A screenshot of what? A picture of the landing force is on the previous page.

I think there are several things we need to decide:

1) Are we agreed that we declare war and take out the MW that have landed? I think we do it with nearby AC.
2) Do we leave another opening for BABE to land on, to suck in another small force, or do we try to block the landing so they find another place. I'd almost like them to land here again, cause this is where our forces are
3) Do we build some muskets? I think we need to - I'd hate to have a couple of MW take out an AC if we can keep it from happening.

One thing about weariness - if THEY declare, they run a pretty good chance of taking the Nursery and kicking off their GA - we get good happiness from being declared on, but losing a city is brutal to weariness and losing 2 units sucks, too. and allowing them to kick off their GA hurts, as well. I'd prefer to just kill them.

I am thinking about why BABE would only land 2 MW like this, who are likely to get munched up asap.
I guess the war declaration is what they are aiming at, coupled with gathering some intelligence on our troops.

As for your questions;

1) Whipe them off the earth.
2) I like the sound of letting them land in the same area.
3) Not sure about this one.

I calculated our chances and risks, consulted a fortune teller, analyzed the situation thoroughly and came to the conclusion it's about time to panic
:run: :run: :run:

the threat
The second BABE wave will be 12 units, the third 8. Some will be pikes, most MWs. We have 6 ACs, 14 horses and 2 MDI around. That's not too comforting.
We need 10 more to counter what we see. Tough to say how much more once we started their GA...
I'm torn whether we should rather save our ACs for the defensive units and strike MWs with horses (and risk an earlier BABE GA) or go no risk and hit with ACs immediately. :dunno:

mounted moves
We have 6 ACs and 8 horses to strike next turn (minus injured from this turn). 7 more horses the turn after.

We have to keep the coast between The Nursery and The Pier closed so they can't land both waves at once. :old:

We need to rush some horses again. TC should build 2-turn-horses from now. Bayou and Gulag should switch to horses and rush them.

Horses from The Lodge and The Arboretum should go all the way via The Institute to be able to strike next turn. All horses from the North also to the battle fields.

ACs should carefully shift to west into striking distance to the landing spot. Best landing spot is N of The Nursery imo.

navy moves
One galley from next to The Marina should sail east to scout the shallows NE of Chamsuri's Cove.

We should attempt a suicide tripe there. But not before a backup post is there. Unless we decide to get Astro real soon.

economic issues
Maybe we should lower science to zero for a couple of turns? That extra horse per turn might be worth it... :dunno:
At least to 40-50% we should go down anyway.
