Preview for Deflowering a Virgin Continent

Saying that Connecticut was 'part of' the New Netherlands was a major oversimplification, as the Dutch CLAIM extended to the Connecticut river, but excepting a few coastal settlements in the southwestern portion of the country, their control was completely nonexistent.

Yeah, but then again, there wasn't much to control back then.

now that you've revised the initial "well New Haven and Hartford kinda merged and there you go," implying that Hartford was its' own colony a la New Haven,

I said that mainly because New Haven and Hartford were co-capitals of Connecticut for almost 2 centuries.

Well, I remember that Providence, RI was founded to be sort of a safe haven for the people who weren't completely on board with Puritan beliefs, the colony was mostly Protestant, though there was a very small number of Catholics, but mostly it was a non-Puritan Protestant colony for people to escape religious persecution in Massachusetts, but then that might be a little bit before this NES.

Another thing to remember about South Caronlina is that its a hell hole, swampy and malaria filled, the white landowners spent most of the summer up in Charles Town (now Charleston) and left their plantations to be run by poor white overseers with only male slaves working in the rice fields, which the survival rate of slaves in SC was extremely low and it wasn't that much higher for the overseers, as well. Maybe you can play with that little bit of information a bit, also. I'll look through my two history books (A People's History and A Patriot's History of the United States, fun to read two books with radically different views on American history xP) to get ya more info about Colonial stuff.

I'm Interested in the Cherokee

I'd play... I personally think we should include most if not all of north america along with the top of South America so as to include the full carribean and mexico, giving something for the spanish to go for. Not sure who i'd play as though

I was definitely thinking Cuba at the very least, and Florida since it's right next to the Thirteen, but my issue is if you start including the nip of SOuth America, you'll have to include the rest too. Now I have considered this, but the big issue is that no good and large map of North and South America combined exists to my knowledge.

I think native tribes should be playable.

On that note I have great interest in playing the Iroquois Confederacy, and if the confederacy is to be broken into the six tribes then specifically the Mohawk.

New York for me please. Long live the King!

Do you want New York's history to extend as far to when it was founded, or when the British got them?

There's this map. You could always cut off the tip of South America. Europe will need to be edited, if you include it. I also have a completely blank one too. This is from Plexus' and mine colonization NES a few years back.

EDIT: just realized most of Canada is cut off. Lame.

I'll play for the French Empire. Canada/New France please.

I definitely think the British-Dutch-French Caribbean should be included. Trade between it and the other colonies was relatively important. If you don't want to worry about the Dutch and Denmark as they were of minor importance by this stage simply make them very inactive NPCs.

Well the question is should the islands operate as colonies like the big ones, or should they be part of the direct imperial rule? For practical reasons, having them as playable colonies would mean as a very large expansion of the NES, so for praactical purposes it's either bringing the sugar islands in or the native nations in. There seems to be greater interest in the native nations and expansion to the west than the sugar islands, which don't really have a lot of playable potential. AS for their importance, that's not really deniable, but they are probably better off within the direct controls of the imperial power.

Nonetheless, Cuba's in, but where did the Virgin Islands go? :p

EDIT: I'll be reading the thread now, just saw my point was already posted. I'll reply in a moment.

Jason's map is perfect!

My current plan is to only use a map of North America, I have a map already set up for it, question still remains how much of it to use.
