Problems on Marathon Deity with "normal" leaders

With Capitol Gold Mines its probably better to not run the scientist there and therefore build the library when its convenient. A 2nd/3rd city with high food but no commerce resources could probably skip the granary till after the library and run scientist. No early whipping barring maybe the library means the later granary hurts less, and the great scientist if the slider is high can be used for an early academy, lower slider then bulbing maths for better chops is reasonable, even settling in capitol can work if its really early, the slider is low and maths doesn't seem like good trade bait (much harder to tell pre-alpha).

When my time frees up some I'll play out some marathon hof games, need them for Quattromasters anyway

Sounds logic, will do the Granary skipping in my current game, there I have a "food-rich" 2nd city with Bananas and Rice, the Capital has 5 Gems :D . I guess the high Commerce or the game speed is the point why I have problems understanding how one can "bulb Math" (in that game I researched Math + Aesthetics even before I started on building a Library, I oracled Currency) .

Expansive seems like a good sushi trait to me. Cheap granaries, more health, stuff you need to grow cities really, really big. I agree, ragnar is a good leader outside of berserkers. I don't think you'll need the amphibious promo. How many 1 tile island cities do you usually capture? Citadel is nice because it gets your sieges promoted to accuracy (the extra bombard against city defenses promo) a lot quicker. Siege are hard to level up because they usually are sacrificed or bombard and don't get exp. Castles are a pretty large investment though.

Extra Health is nice, cheaper Workers are also nice, and 1pop-whip-granaries are awesome. Concerning Castles, never have built one, never will, that includes the Citadel. And Amphibious is not only about attacking 1 tile island cities, it's also about saving moves. Together with the faster ships, a lot of moves, and, one is invulnerable to counter-attack and the target won't whip in that city before attack. Not ueber, but decent at least.

Btw, current game with Ragnar looks good. 1800 BC, 6 cities, 1 coastal so island access granted, stole 3 Workers from Ghandi (loved those AGG Cover-Warriors there :D) . No strategic Ressources but Horses, which I hopefully will be able to trade for some Iron, otherwise I have to search the islands for some. Got 2 cities exactly 1 turn before Frederick would have settled there :D . As said, 5 times Gems, but also a Jungel start, but at least some food on the map this time. I'm very concentrated atm and hope this will develop to a really good game. Only thing I'm a little worried about is that I'm sitting between the Buddhist and the Hinduist block, I wanna go Buddhism because Frederick is strong with 8 cities and Lincoln is #1 in Score, I'd also win Hatty as a tradepartner who's 2nd in Score, but that would piss of Viccy and Ramesses, and especially Ghandi, with whom my relations are somehow "biased" ^^ This would be one of those rare games where Shwedagon Paya and Free Religion would make sense, but it's one of the also very few games where I started without Gold and nobody seems to have 2.

Curious how this will develop.

Cya soon, Sera

If the slider is high then i prefer an early academy ie from capture gold, bulbing in general is less effective on larger maps due to how it scales. Tech increase is 150% at huge compared to 130% at standard (duel is 100%), scientist bulb = 4500 + 9*population size on marathon speed on all map sizes, as a note all other GP its 3000 + 6*population size :)

Going to get abit of civ time this weekend but G-Major 103 will probably be my focus as its likely to be a brutal one to finish

*thanks Tachy :goodjob:*

I didn't capture any city till from 4000 BC to 500 BC, anyhow, the Slider was on 100% from the beginning to the end of that phase, and even with skipping the Granary and chopping the Library, I wasn't able to found an Academy before I got CS which must have been somewhere arount 1200 BC. Biggest problem is, I cannot build up enough troops, I just wish I'd had the Mids, then I'd switch to US and just buy 10 Beserkers for the 5k Gold that lie in my Bank. Peacemonger Ghandi has more troops and twice the cities that I have, with "Warmonger Lincoln" I got a military ratio of 0.3  and this is already with bribing the most powerful Civs against each other. I wonder if I can even make it to backstab some of the weaker ones.

Yet though, I am and was tech-leader through the whole game and got 6 cities through normal REX. Tell me what this means. Here are screens as I cannot post saves yet, because I don't consider this game lost:

GL with G-Major 103 :)

Ok, I managed "the breakout" from 6 cities and made it up to 14 + Viccy as a Vassal till 200 AD.

Funked up though, because Lizzy came to me and asked if I'd join war on Ghandi. He was in war with 5 Civs, so I thought this would get easy, I wanted him to conquer anyway, so why not now.

Then an idiot situation developed:

Frederick sent small Stacks, like 4-8 units, to Ghandis Hills cities having 12-15 defenders, and got farmed, and then he sent new ones, and got farmed again, and again, new ones, and again, farmed... It was ridiculous, at the moment where my troops had made the way from Viccy to Ghandi, all of Ghandis defenders were quadruple promoted so could match my Stack easily. Still I took the first 2 cities, but then Ghandi, the most hated person in the game, got Gunpowder from his only friend Lincoln, and at the next city, it was over. Ghandi attacked my Combat 4-5 Berserkers with Combat 2 Muskets and won!

I don't wanna know what the chances for a Combat 2 Musket against a fully fortifed combat 4 Berserker is, but he killed 4 of them without even getting damaged!

Those losses were too much, could only have made peace, but the chance at the high score was gone, that's why this start is now in the Awesome Starts Collection.

Trying out Isabella now, excited to see Conqs in action but haven't got a good start the whole day.
