______???______ = Civup + Gem + Vem + modmods + mods for future expansions

I'd like your help finding a name for the collection of mods designed here. Fill in the blank! :)

The current "unofficial patch and vanilla enhanced" title is too wordy. I was talking with friends, and realized that on the forum and website I describe what the collection does, but not what it is. It has all the features of an expansion pack: new units, improved interface, balanced game, expanded modding tools, and so on. I decided a good description for the collection is a free community-made expansion for Civ V. The goal remains the same, to perfect gameplay while remaining as close to the core game as possible.

I'd like a name which sounds like an expansion pack. Which of the names below do you like best, or do you have other ideas?

  • Zenith (pinnacle)
  • Communitas (spirit of community)
  • Paragon (excellent)
  • Unitas (unity)
  • ...something else?

Edit: I've updated the post to clarify I'm looking for a collection name, not a mod name. The collection includes all the individual mods.

To go with the "organic" feel of G&K which I love, contrasted by it's push for strength which I also love, I go for:

BioStance for G&K

From the web:
"Recognizing this problem, Biostance founder Chris J. Korich conceived and developed a new balancing system"

The only problem is that this is a patented name for a ski-boot

Cheers

"Civ+"

or, "Civ Plus"

Implies the Civilization game, plus enhancements.

Thales of Civilization if you want a little bit of self-aggrandizement (Tale is probably the only similarly sounding pun you can do with your screen name, right?).

Otherwise, I do think CivPlus is simple and catchy. Paragon sounds so a la "grandeur", I'm not sure...

Maybe combine the two so its CiV+ (insert specific name her) I like Unitas myself as the unity of a bunch of ideas.

I was looking around and noticed Cyrinno calls his project "Echoes of Ages - CiVilization Plus+". I want to avoid taking his name, so let's decide on something else. :)

How about: “Gods and Kings (or G&K): Divine Rulers” or “G&K: Divinity”? After all, in some cultures, gods and kings are looked upon as being “divine” in some measure. What’s more, according to Wikipedia: “divinity always carries connotations of goodness, beauty, beneficence, justice, and other positive, pro-social attributes,” which I’d have thought were nice ideals for the mod to align itself with. Indeed, one definition of beneficence I came across listed beneficence as being “action that is done for the benefit of others”, which I think epitomises what a community made mod is all about.

Those sound good, though without the G&K prefix. The project name will be an umbrella describing everything: vanilla enhanced, the unofficial patch, G&K enhanced, and mods for future official Civ 5 expansion packs and DLCs. :)

@Thal: I saw your original reply.....sorry, I mis-understood your intention. :)

That said, something like “CiV: Divinity” might still work. After all, bringing all those (past and future) mods together under one banner will hopefully result in a much improved (read: divine) experience for the gamer – eg. something more visually appealing, and better balanced (ie. referring to the “beauty” and “goodness” attributes noted above) than Civ 5 vanilla. It might also require much future co-operation from the modding community, which again references the “beneficence” attribute noted in the post.

Whatever name you choose, I wish you well with the project. :)

It would be cool to come up with a name that was an acronym describing the mod as well as a cool name sort of like some Oblivion mods that were hugely popular MMM (Martigan's Monster Mod) or OOO (Obscuros Oblivion Overhaul) but with a cooler end acronym then just three letters, lol.

Sadly I haven't been able to come up with any cool ones but figured someone else might.

Civ, More or Less

(More fun, less BS) :D

Mostly kidding, guys.

As another thought, how about simply “CiV: Evolution” given that (i) the base game simulates the evolution of civilization and (ii) the mod itself is an evolution of the base game? Variations on this theme might include something like “CiV: The History of Humanity”, “CiV: Dawn of Humanity”, “CiV: Dawn of the World” or “CiV: A New World”. FWIW, the last one’s growing on me because it captures both (i) what the gamer has the opportunity to do in Civ 5 (ie. create a new world) and (ii) what’s happening in this and future mods: the gameplay rules are being changed. That said, "CiV: Dawn of a New World" or "CiV: The Dawn of Time" might also work...and fit with the position the gamer starts at in 4000 BC.

My last idea is simply something like “CiV: Utopia”, recognising that the aim of the mod is to provide the gamer the best possible (ie. Utopian) gaming experience – but its success is contingent on gamers (EDIT: and modders) exhibiting a few Utopian values, such as co-operation. The question is then whether you see the tie in with Civ 5’s Utopia Project as something positive (ie. emphasizing this is a Civ 5 mod) or a source of confusion to the gamer.
