Do you approve of the following changes to the Consitution?
Yes/No/Abstain and will run for a maxumum of 96 Hours

Original Text of the current consitution:
Code:
5. Vacant Offices
        a. An official or Justice may declare themselves to be
Absent for a period of time. This period may not exceed 1
week. During this time, the deputy or pro-tem will act
with all power and duties of that office, surrendering
them to the official or Justice when they return or at
the end of the planned absence, whichever comes first.

        b. Should an official fail to post in the DG forum for 3
days in a thread related to their area without prior
notice, the Judiciary may declare that office Vacant.

        c. If a Justice has not posted on any active Judicial matter
for three days, the remaining Justices may declare the
Justice Vacant. If all three Justices fail to post on
any active Judicial matter for 3 days, the President may
declare all Judicial offices Vacant, and immediately
            appoint a new Chief Justice.

Proposed Changes/Addition (Changes in Boldface):
Code:
5. Vacant Offices
        a. An official or Justice may declare themselves to be
Absent for a period of time. This period may not exceed 1

them to the official or Justice when they return or at

        b. Should an official fail to post in the DG forum for 3

notice, the Judiciary may declare that office Vacant.

        c. If a Justice has not posted on any active Judicial matter
for three days, the remaining Justices may declare the
Justice Vacant. If all three Justices fail to post on

declare all Judicial offices Vacant, and immediately
            appoint a new Chief Justice.
[b]d. If in the event that the presidential office is vacant,
The chief justice shall nominate a citizen for president.
The candidate that the chief justice nominates shall be
approved by both the public defender and the judge advocate.[/b]

Note this is a public poll
For this to pass 55% must vote yes and more than 37% of the census(over 11 people) must vote

I voted yes, the changes proposed are the only courses of actions. Clearly nobody wants to or can't be president so the judges have to decide.

Band-aid.

Short-sighted.

Does not fix the problem - only the symptom.

Maybe true. But something has to done. And fixing the problem may not be possible.

Band-aid does help sometimes. :)

I agree with zyxy. Band-aid to this wound would defenately help. Also something to put in the back of our minds when composing a set of laws for DG7.

The nominee has a choice wether to accept it or not. If he/she declines his or her nomination, then another person is chosen. :)

the law doesn't specifically mention this, however I believe the defintion of nominate implies that the person gets to accept or not

No. This term, the presidency will be inflicted as a punishment.

With no one accepting the presidental nomination, I don't see how this will help us. I like the idea of a member signing up for a turn chat and playing then. That way, you don't have to micro-manage those cities twice a week for a month.

Not that my vote matters (this change will pass), but I'm voting yes even though I very much dislike this measure and don't want to see it in the next constitution. Why, then, do I vote this way? We do need a band-aid, this is expedient and makes sense for the circumstances, and considering our circumstances may be the only way to resolve our problem.

I voted no to this CoL amendment, as I do not wish to see the judiciary acting as a political body in selecting a president and not even being required to ask the citizenry about an appointment to the highest executive office. I recognize that we need a president, but surely there is a better selection method (a special, mid-term election perhaps) than this.

Further strike - no confirmation. Good grief people - there's a confirmation poll, built in to the law already. Use it.
