Does anyone know of a way to find the Horizon of smaller planet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon
The first person to figure it out gets $20 USD (after I get my first pay check from the job I am looking for starting next week ...but I am good for it trust me ;) )

Check the link at the bottom of the page you linked, called "Distance to the Horizon." That page explains it better than I could.

The question is the size of the planets diameter in regaurds to the formula which
would help me figure out what I need too, but I am not good with this sort of formulas.

I am unclear on what you need now. Do you have the straight or curved line distance to the horizon, and need to use this to find the radius (or diameter) of the planet? Or are you given the diameter, and asked for the straight or curved line distance to the horizon? Either way, the first link on the bottom of the wikipedia page should tell you what you need to know.

Well, forgive me for being too obvious, but don't you just need to do:

Distance to Horizon = (2Rh + h^2)^.5

R is half the diameter of the planet, h the viewers height.

Thats still to much for me letters + numbers = ? for me
(2Rh + h^2)^.5 say what now?
I'll call one of my college friends.

well, my guess is that R = diameter of planet in meters and h = height of observer in meters. Then it becomes a matter of multiplication. squareroot(2*R*h + h*h) so if R = 3 meters and h = 2 meters then the horizon is 4 or 4 = sqrt (2*3*2 + 2*2)

In words:

The distance to the horizon is twice the radius times the observers hieght, plus height sqaured, all sqaure rooted.

So assuming a 100 Km radius planet, and a 2 meter tall person, the answer is 632.46 meters.

I also note you spelled 1337 wrong. ;)

I'll comment pretending that wasn't a sarcatic comment.

No just lazy ..... I got 1,200 bucks from job corps when I graduated ... it's all gone now.

I signed up for college (Game art and design at a art institute)
Then I realised I owe 175 bucks a month on my surgery (with 5500 still left on it)
The school is 20 miles away (40 miles a day) on a car that gets 20 miles a gallon
put me out about 6.60 a day.
X 20 days a month = 132 a month + 100 insurance on the car = 232 a month
with the government wanting me to pay a minimum 50 a month on the 76,000 loan there giving me for school I am out 457 a month if I am in school

School is 4 hours a day 5 days a week + 1 hour traffic there an back 6 hours + 4 hours of work = 10 + 1 hour of getting ready to go after waking up + 10 hours of sleep, trying to go to sleep and waking up = 21 hours on minimum wage = I'd better hold off school for a year and buy a moped since It doesn't need insurance and will only cost me 20 bucks a month in gas.

I am not rich if it wasn't for living at home, goverment loans I'd be screwed as a matter of fact.

I didn't mean to make such a long post just venting.

:ack:

I just simply converted the formulas that the others posted into numbers, and I did that for the purpose of posting something constructive to add on to my comment about 1337. And I thought you weren't being serious. :crazyeye:
