Given that we're giving permission to participate in both at once, I don't think that will work. However, it might be useful for keeping the place clutter free, so we might use two threads. We'll let you know.

Do you mean Karai? That's east...so maybe not. I can't recall.

In any case I hope all the areas are covered before Friday so I can write an entry story by Saturday since I leave Sunday.

Josef, Arios and Hadir are done, with Alhaven (the far western continent,) Thule (the far northern,) and Karai (eastern) to go.

We should have all the nation descriptions done by Friday at the latest, yep. You probably won't get fancy stats like in Arios' case, but that's not really necessary for now.

*calmly looks at thlayli* A certain nation better get fancy stats... Or else.

I'm in. Let's get freaky.

Upon further consideration (and an epiphany of sorts), I have decided to join the cradle as well.

Right on the edge of the taiga. I assume the taiga has extreme temperatures?

And yes, I realize that may not be the best place to start, but it will work with my nation idea perfectly :)

I've changed my mind. I will be joining in the "advanced" world as the pale blue nation in the south, the one centered on a large island. I don't think a name has been given for it yet.

Also, I assume open circles are ruined cities or something along those lines. Is that correct?

Vardis
I

The Demons of Light descended from the fires of Nagash to make their home in the grasslands of Deis, and after blinding the disciples of Order who had brought them gifts and welcomed them with open arms, they opened up the gates of Nagash and spewed forth great destruction upon all those who embraced the night.

During these times, the Great Destruction, the fires of chaos ravaged the land, both grass and tree, plains and forest. However, none of the Demons could withstand the cold, nor the night. During the winters, they burrowed deep in the earth to protect themselves from the harsh cold of the Nibosh, whose mighty trees blocked all sun and harbored those disciples who had not yet fallen to the Great Destruction. Many praises were offered unto the Angels of Darkness that this was so.

For the Demons of Light possessed mighty spears that could pierce the strongest hide and impale the largest Kudluskk cleanly, and darts that could fell a man from seven hundred paces. They built a mighty city in the northwest, the White City of Tjaris, whose splendor and might rivaled the mightiest mountain and the tallest forest. The disciples of Darkness were pushed back, and soon there were none left save those who had escaped to the Nibosh, and even they were in grave danger. The children of the Night cried out mightily to the heavens for salvation, day and night, for many years, hoping to be freed from their fallen state.

In time, the keepers of Order were blessed with the might of the Angels, who brought a great cold to the land and drove the Demons out of the forests and onto the open grasslands of Deis. There they battled, Angel and Demon, Order and Chaos, Darkness and Light, for the fate of the world.

The Demons were pushed back, their spears of Light and their blinding darts unable to defeat the double blades of the Angels, who smashed through their Legions of Fire and smashed Tjaris into the dust without leaving a trace. The disciples of Order celebrated as the Great Destruction came to an end. Peace and prosperity reigned in the land, and all were joyous. But just as suddenly as they had come, the Angels vanished, taken up to high heaven to watch over their children, and ever-ready to defend their creations should they ever cry out again in distress.

The Angels gave the Dark Ones power over the followers of Chaos, subjugating them into their tribes to suffer for their crimes. They also left the great Oak as a symbol, a reminder of the past and a beacon for help. It is said that anyone who partakes of the bark of the Oak shall…

*************

In the First Age of Man, there was great peace and prosperity. The children of Light prospered under the direction of their creators, the Demons. The Demons taught them of the best ways to gather, and to build, and to hunt. They did this out of the goodness of their hearts, asking only for three years of service by each able-bodied man in exchange for the powers of Nagash, the Sun. Together, The Demons and the children of Chaos built a mighty civilization, fashioning buildings of stone and learning of the secrets of the Sun and the Day in the great city of Tjaris. They lived in harmony for many years, until the coming of the children of Darkness.

The Dark Ones spewed forth from the Dark Forests of the Nibosh and spread across the whole face of the land, killing and plundering as they went. They cared little for the possessions nor the settlements of the followers of Light. They lived where they liked and they took what they liked. They would take a man’s land, his livestock, and his wife as it pleased them, by force if necessary. There was much suffering across the land and the Night held sway over the sky.

The children of Light and the Demons rallied together to fight against this Dark menace. They achieved many victories by the powers of the Sun, the fires of the Great Forge. In time they managed to push the Dark Ones back to the Nibosh from whence they had come. They celebrated their good fortune and marched forth to defeat the Night for eternity, but alas, the Demons of Chaos could not survive in the harsh cold of the Great Winter. This Winter had been much colder than all others before it, and all afterwards. The Demons were forced to dig deep underground to protect themselves from this evil in the hearth of Light and Life, leaving the children of Light alone to fight these great enemies.

It was during the Great Winter that the Angels appeared. They marched forth, their blades of Shadow cutting down many of the followers of Chaos, mercilessly destroying all in their paths as they approached the Demons. It was there, in the grasslands of Deis, that a mighty battle was fought. For a time the Demons had the advantage, ripping through the Armies of Shadow and engulfing hundreds in fire. But alas, the Night did come, and in this combined Night and evil Winter the Angels were able to defeat the Demons. They were forced to the shores of the sea and departed on the horizon, sailing home to the sun. The Angels then forced those who followed Chaos into the tribes of Order, the tribes of the Dark Ones. This tribal Order, this structure of bonds, was great torture for those of Freedom and Light.

For many years those of Chaos have been forced to reside in Order, living as one with those of Darkness. The Angels did hope that the Chaos would be bled out of the children of Light, that they would forget the ways of goodness, Freedom, Life, and Light. The children forgot all that they had been taught, and melted into the culture of the Dark Ones.

But hope still remains. There are still those who follow Light in Vardi, and they wait for the day when the Demons shall return from the seas of the Sun to vanquish…

Introduction

And so the people of the world were fruitful, and multiplied, and spread far across the world of the goddess Koe, and she had great compassion for those whose father suffered in darkness and lonely despair. It was in this time that the people lived in peace and harmony, and there was not yet strife in the world, nor disease, and people died only at great age of worldly tiredness.

Animals and plants came into being, and none knew from whence they came, for they were not in the designs of Koe, which had focused overmuch on creating a World in the Nothingness. Yet Koe was glad, for she saw her people mingle among these other beings and live in balance and harmony with them also.

Yet it must be recalled that Koe was not alone in the world, for three others sprang from the Ereo, and they were Geol, Minoe and Hadeo. They were the consorts of Koe, lesser than she but great also. Geol was master of the air, and he commanded the high heights above the world of Koe. Minoe was master of the sea, and he commanded the great waters that lap the shores of the world of Koe. Hadeo was master of the fire, and he commanded the angry flames hidden beneath the world of Koe. They, too, shaped her world, and added their powers to her own for the betterment of the Children of Luda.

In time, however, it came to pass that Koe spent more and more time among the Children of Luda, who were her children also, tending to them and granting unto them great boons and gifts, for she delighted in their laughter and their smiles. This affection she passed on to the Children, who still today laugh and smile, and it is the greatest of the Gifts of Koe save only the world. These gifts, however, was regarded darkly by her consorts, who tired of time spent with the Children, weak in comparison to them they were, and short-lived (for gods endure eternally). So it came to pass that there were three meetings of the consorts of Koe, called while she stayed away in the world.

Geol hosted the first meeting high in the clouds, and in it the three consorts resolved to take no ill in Koe’s actions, for she meant no harm to them and brought happiness to others.

Minoe hosted the second meeting atop the surface of the sea, and in it the consorts became less certain of Koe’s motives, and questioned her regard of them. The tempestuous nature of the waves caught them, and tempers flared. It was agreed that they would request of Koe to make fewer trips among the Children and to leave the world to its own devices.

Koe took no heed of their missive, and Hadeo hosted the third meeting in the fiery core of the world, and in it the consorts were drawn into rage at Koe’s disregard for them and their wishes and for her doting on the mortal Children who were not theirs. Now they plotted, but also they put upon innocent faces before departing.

To be continued. In case you haven't guessed, the language is pseudo-Greek with a preference for the less-common -ol and -oe endings as opposed to Greek's preference for -on and -os.

So, should I assume there will be no new nation descriptions tonight?

Nice stories, guys! I get the feeling I'm going to be saying that a lot...

So, should I assume there will be no new nation descriptions tonight?

Probably not...since I have finals tomorrow. Still, they should all be up by Friday.

You can just put in one post that says "Assume that every story gets my approval, unless I say otherwise."

Prologue

The names vary--Isaac and Ishmael, Romulus and Remus, Castor and Pollux. So, too, do the details--borne of different mothers, raised by wolves, one mortal, the other immortal. But, as ever, all that matters over the endless march of years is the essence, the core at the center of all the stories. Brother will always strive to outdo brother, fighting tirelessly for supremacy. So it will be as long as the world turns and the stars shine, for as long as Man remains Man and brother brother.

----------------------------------------------------

The names are unimportant, and in any case long lost in the mists of time. All that matters is their relation to each other--and their offspring. They were brothers, and both were destroyed by their own greed and mistrust. Both of our peoples still suffer to this day, but my people, the Elders, suffer more--and is it not ever so, that the elder must recieve punishment greater than any other?

Perhaps your people, keeping as they still do to the ancient ways, record in songs their origin. But my people have lost the certain knowledge that comes with tradition, and all that is left to us is guesswork.

But our guesswork, in this case, is good enough. We know that the brothers came from a city on the shores of the Great Water to the north. Some stories claim that they were exiled princes, exiled to the south by their usurping uncle. Other stories clam that they were outlaws and murderers, who were finally driven south with their ragged band of followers.

South they came, and, on the site where my people still make their home, they halted. Both brothers had ceased to be young boys, and now their thoughts turned to their future and their descendents. On the site the small folk worship as holy, they agreed to build a city.

But the elder brother was the more wicked of the two, or at least the cleverer. He planned to seize all of the glory for himself, and cause his name to be remembered while his brother's was forgotten. So a band of his followers fell upon the younger brother as he slept and beat him, or so they thought, to death.

But Fate would not allow such a resolution. The younger brother still lived, and crawled away into the Western Hills, ever after to jealously look upon the riches of the city his brother had built.

It is said that the earth stood still when he pronounced his curse, and that it rang out like thunder across the plains.

"As strife between brothers is now our downfall, so always shall it be our downfall. When one is needed, let there be two, squabbling and fighting. When two are needed, let there be one, weak and indecisive. When peace is needed, let there be war, cruel and bloody. When war is needed, let there be peace, decadent and corrupt."

And so it has been. While your people, the Youngers, eternally harass us from the Western hills, my people, the Elders, cower in their city of Pride, tearing themselves apart through petty strife and indecision, all for the sake of a quarrel between those whose names have long been forgotten.

And so it will be as long as the world turns and the stars shine, for as long as Man remains Man and brother brother.

It feels really good to be writing stories again.

Interesting... how did those brothers from Arios get to there? Or is it some other set of brothers?

Hey Thlay, do you think you could give me a brief overview of the merchant guilds of Mettlingen- what they do, how they do it, and other interesting things.
