Putting together my 2nd PC from scratch

I really wouldn't bother with a Z77 board if you can get an H77 or B75 board for less. You're not overclocking and you're not using SSD caching, so it's pretty much useless for you.

Woohoo! The last component for my build arrived today, the motherboard. Got the ASRock B75 Pro 3.

I hope to start building this weekend.

Well I started putting the machine together Thursday. First problem I came to was the dang motherboard standoffs. The case I have has indents or bulges protruding in the frame where the motherboard is to be attached. I guess I'm supposed to use the screws to fix the motherboard to the bulges, does that sound right? I thought there were special standoff screws for motherboards? But this case seems to just have regular screws that you screw into these protrusions so that the motherboard doesn't rub against the main part of the frame?

Thanks.

There should have been a set of screws and/or spacers with your new case.
And either a leaflet of markings on the mounting plate which mounting holes are to be used for which mainboard form factor.

Ah...thanks Zelig!

Now I'm trying to connect the front HD LED plug from the case into the little prongs on the MB. Of course the HD LED plug is a dual plug and it doesn't say which side is + and which is -. AND it tells me in the MB directions NOT to confuse the two! That's just GREAT! I have no idea how to tell the positive form the negative side.

Anyone here have mystical powers to tell me which one is which?

Woohoo! I'm typing this through an internet connection on my newly constructed computer!

Thank you everyone who posted suggestions, ideas and advice!. So far everything seems to be running good. When I checked the CPU temp after booting up for the first time it was around 37 degrees, which seems pretty good. I think my old build ran at about 46 when I first booted it up 3 years ago or more. :)

Some CPUs run hotter than others, both of those temps could be completely normal for the CPU you were running. The distance from thermal max is what matters.
