Pyre Zombies, how do they work?

What's the attraction of the AV without sheaim, anyway? I don't like rampaging demons and plagues and plummeting property values.

Sacrifice the weak is a big one.

Some civilizations are also less effected by the armageddon counter than others, so can gain competetive benefits by hurting everyone else more than they hurt themselves.

The Elohim ritual also might help somewhat, as it allows them to slow the rise of the counter somewhat. (Though I haven't actually tried this.)

Ashen Veil is very powerful. Their priests are very good, casting the ring of flames at level 2 (ritualist), which is an area of effect spell especially useful against gigantic AI enemy stacks. Their level three prieits (profane) can summon Balors. They have good heroes. Diseased corpes are solid and the Beast of Agares is a nice end-game unit.

However, Sacrifice the weak is the killer benefit for the Ashen Veil. AV is a very good choice especially for civ's that are weak militarily especially in late game.

@tribble: then you want the infernals, not sheaim. or anyone with the barbarian trait. personally I enjoy AV jonas endain with prophecy+stigmata and pumping out savants, then spreading AV far and wide and knowing the horsemen will ignore me

How? I only played Clan one time, and the barbs declared on me before I could even get out Rantine.(inb4 'trib sucks at FFH.')

Come to think of it, I did found the ashen veil myself one time for the sole reason of denying it to the sheaim. I am not a fan of Os-Gabella.

The barbarians will declare war when you get above 1.5x as many points as the next civilization (I think), so keeping the benefits means avoiding getting too much power too quickly. The actual mechanic is described in the FfH manual.

it basically means you can't do it at low difficulty levels

Yes, but on immortal Jonas + AV = WOW!
It is a very powerful strategy - spamming fast disciples from warens. Both for spreading AV and for powerful casters

It pays to prioritize to get Rantine out.

It is not always true, IMHO. It heavilly depends on the map - how many barb cities are there

You are right about that, but if there are a lot of barb cities, he is great. Even if he takes over 2 cities he can be powerful (along with his personal power) so if i've got Barb cities, I go for him!
