I wonder if its possible to mod that in....

hmmm...

maybe theres a button/checkbox for workers/tradable

or make armed workers with a x.x.x rating (haven't modded in forever)

Strange thing… I've given AI techs of any kind when I wanted to help one part in a war, but I've never thought of giving them money. Perhaps that would be a better help in some circumstances?

don't think of giving the AI anything, they'll wind up backstabbing you 90% of the time through a military alliance.

I believe that this is one of the hardcoded limits that drives modders mad. There can only be one tradable unit, and it is the one that is in the second slot in the editor list (workers in an unmodded game). If I can be proved wrong on this then I will be genuinely delighted.

There is certainly no flag or button for tradable I'm afraid.

Was there something in vanilla Civ3 that allowed a player to see the entire map explored and currently seen? I could have sworn there was.. <_<

Are you thinking of the cntrl-shift-M that shows the map with just the land? Actually I am not sure if those are the keys, but something like that.

an afirmative on the above.

They sure do, but at least its fun for me. :D

I totally agree. If you play in a rational way, with winning quickly as the only goal, it's of course not a good idea to give the AI-players anything for free, but there are many occasions when I do it or fun. Heck, they aren't even very thankful, and as already mentioned, they might backstab you. Sometimes it's more important to just enjoy the game than to achieve. For example, I usually play on Emperor, but my last three games have been on Regent, with 20k in mind. That gives lots of room to have fun and do irrational things. :D

Clean map has many uses, such as locating the iron hidden under an enemy town.

Hopefully I'm not being picky here but off the top of my head I can think of a few good reasons to give away things for free.

  • When playing fast research games, gifting scientific civs into the new age and then trading for their free techs can help speed your progress toards Diplo or Space victories.

  • When playing for Diplo, gifting AIs can help improve their attitude and ensure that they vote for you rather than your rival(s).

  • Giving in to tribute demands is often essential when playing the early game at the top level.

  • Gifting aggressive AIs can sometimes stave off an attack by improving their attitude. I even use this on the lower levels in the early game if I want to spend my shields on settlers/workers rather than military units. I'll tend to use techs that are pretty well known anyway so as not to give away too much, and I'll never use monopoly techs. (This needs to be done before they start to advance on your cities. It is difficult to prove that this works but I have played a number of games where an aggressive AI had declared on another rival after I've improved their attitude to me. I've often thought that they may well have attacked me instead without the gifts.)

  • Very rarely on lower levels I will even support one AI that is in conflict with another to ensure that status quo is maintained so that I don't have to face a runaway civ later on, or even support the stronger one to give me a half-decent research partner.

That is not to say that gifting AIs can't have its downside. They can backstab you but if you are trying to win quickly and you are in a strong position you can maybe afford to take a chance or two.

You are absolutely right, Tone. I expressed myself to categorically.

Another reason would be if you see at least two of a resource in your neighbors territory, and you would like to trade for it. Sometimes it's worth giving them the tech that enables them to use the resource.

And, of course, for the purpose of disabling a Great Wonder. Giving Metallurgy to an AI will make the Great Wall obsolete. I suppose that might cause the AI to have an improved attitude towards me, but that's usually negated by the "21-cannon salute" that follows . . . :p

Every now and again when the computer takes a turn the charcters are moving so fast you have no idea what is goin on. The only solution I have found is to save the game and restart the computer and go back to the saved game. Is this the game or my computer?

Hold down the shift or cntrl key and that will slow them down.

Thanks much vmxa. It is funny when you are late in the game and they go flying around the screen.

In Preferences you can set it to "animate enemy moves".

It could alos be that you have caps lock on. This speeds up the animation.

^I tried that as opposed to holding down shift to speed units up but it didn't work.

Newbie question about governments.

What is the draft time? I'm trying to figure out what all the stats mean on the government page. MP makes sense, so does unit support, and so does rush production means. But, I still can't figure out what 'draft time' is? any help?

It was already set that way and I tried putting on caps lock when it happened last night and it did not make a difference.

Sort of funny but a pesty thing too.
