Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I think I played Civ1 when I was 10. And it didn't occur to me that the asker might not be a native English speaker. Actually, I have no idea if the phrase 'my two cents in' is used in Australia or England.

So is everyone preordering Warlords, or is anyone holding back and waiting for reviews? I plan on starting a "first impressions" thread.

I'll wait to see if it's another half-baked play the world expansion before buying, or something much better, I can wait. :)

Print screen button. They are saved to your screenshot folder (Start -> My Documents -> My Games -> Sid Meier's Civ4 -> Screenshots). Taking multiple screenshots will not overwrite previous ones.

My thoughts exactly. Plus the Charismatic trait sounds game breakingly over powerful (happiness and cheap promos???). I make about $10 a day, so I'm definitely gonna wait for some feedback before committing $30.

Exactly my thoughts. Two extra happy faces per city are extremely powerful, especially on the higher difficulty levels. And chucking cheap promotions on top of that...

I mean seriously, this makes Expansive even weaker by comparison.

Question: Does anybody know of a way to add scrollbars, or increase the viewability, of the civics screen? Currently it seems that there's no way to get more than eight civics under a particular type in a mod.

Might want to run this question by the folks in the Python thread as I THINK that would be a python code, but I not 100% sure I know that there are some code gurus on this site so I'm sure you'll find an answer.

As for the expansion pack, I think I'll wait as there are many great mods for free and unless some great mod comes along that requires the expansion pack I'll likely keep what I've got. I was not impressed with the PTW disc, it was nice but I wasn't all oohhh -- aahhh over it. granted it's only $30 but no reason to waste it if you don;t have too.

A thank you message for those kind souls who advised me on my lack of Holy Shrine a few days back:
Spoiler :
I got it built!

Bit late though.

Islam: Founded 1335AD, Holy Shrine built......1705AD

But it's reaping me 75gpt straight away and Islam is now 32% of the world's religion. I also control the Holy Shrines for Buddhism and Hinduism now. Totalling a nice 125gpt income and just over half of the world's religion in my control

Thanks for the advice!

You're welcome, and I'm glad you didn't take mine :) . Any new tricks for an older dog who's usually not that successful in spreading religion?

For me it comes down to new units (always cool), Great Generals (reward for early warmongering, which is my new obsession), scenarios and Churchill vs. $30, unbalancing gimmicks like Charismatic, rewarding bad behavior (Great Generals should have been in the vanilla, not left out as if to justify an early expansion pack), and the memory of Play the World.

That trait has been changed now, check out the Warlords Info Centre. Must have been too powerful (as everyone expected).

Little question: Though the manual says you can only have two wonders in a city I have built three or more. The actual graphic of one seems to disappear from the city but it's still listed in the city buildings column. Is it still actually there?

(If Civ was around when I was 12 I would have played it) :)

There's a limit of two National Wonders in any city. You can build as many Great Wonders as you want.

I played CivI when I was 12 or 13, it having just come out.

And your palace (not Forbidden Palace) doesn't count, so your capital can have three.

not really related to anything but what does "my 2 cents mean"

Oh, and in the spirit of this thread, "my two cents" refered to the turn of the (20th) century postage in the United Kingdom. To put one's two cents in meant you were mailing in your thoughts.

Great, thanks for the link Truronian... that's a truly awesome compilation of information there, exactly what I'd been looking for. Glad to see the info buffs are keeping on top of things here. Ah, now I can barely wait the two weeks left until release... :D

Very Important Question though: Does anybody know, what will happen to previously running Civ4 games once Warlords comes out? For instance, of particular importance are PBEMs... if I upgrade to Warlords, what will happen to my existing vanilla Civ4 games? I truly hope that Firaxis have kept this thing in mind - if not, then it'll be a serious problem for me (and a lot of others, I'd guess), since I still want to play my older PBEM games, BUT I also desperately want Warlords! :(

I'm sorry if it was allrdy asked, but i didn't bother reading trough the entire thread and Search didn't give me an answer.
I'm playing on Chieftain right now (had 2 wins / 0 Losses), nothing special i kno,w but i have to start somewhere as i'm still learning the game.
Could somebody give me the specific advantages/disadvantages the Player and the AI get acoording to the difficulty level?
