Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Awwww I missed it in Hamburg by 75000-73251=1749
Culture wasn't my goal from the beginning though, I sort of fly by the seat of my pants :P
Interesting, I gotta write that down.
quick: 25k
normal: 50k
epic: 75k
marathon: 150k

thanks Ori - you must have played once of twice more than me ;)

Hello, quick question: Is there a mod where I can just sick back and watch the computer play?

I think there is. It was developed for a group using genetic algorithems to improve the AI. Perhaps with google and that you can find it. Post here if you do.

1. If a corporation HQ is destroyed, do the branches still function?

2. If you defy an AP resolution (and suffer the happiness hit), and the AP becomes obsolete before you can vote on something that passes, do you keep the happiness hit?

You can change it. One time I believe I changed it in the city screen by clicking on the name there. There may be other places to do it too. I have done it.

My Newbie Q:

How come I wasnt given a Cultural Victory when my 3 cities hit 50,000 culture? Was it because I had already triggered the UN?
I couldn't sway the UN to give me a Diplomatic win, which I understand.
Time Victories are not that fun and was hoping for the Cultural Win.

My three culture cities at the end of the time victory had these points:
92263
76249
73251
I attached a JPEG screen shot of the Victory Conditions screen at the end.
you cannot win twice ;)

When I was installing BtS, it was interrupted in the middle of installing python. (I know this because that's where it stops every time i try to play.) I tried to remove the program but it goes to install mode and doesn't do anything after i press install. Can anyone help? I really want to play.

Try to remove the game using the Add and remove programs feature from Windows. Then try to reinstall.

If you have a registry cleaner program, then use this before you reinstall.

(By the way, how was the program interrupted during the initial installation? Did you do it manual, did you suffer a power problem, did the program make an installation error and stop by itself?)

New Q

Sometimes when I play, I see small areas of tiles with opponents' colors on them and nothing else there. Then I try to put a settler near it and the whole area comes to life with cities and wider color areas than before and I find I can't put my settler where I thought I could before. I have all the game patches too.

Sounds like you're sending your settler to an area that you have previously explored, but haven't visited in a while. Any tiles that are greyed out are no longer in your line of sight, so you cannot see what happens there.

Next time, try positioning (sentry/fortify) a unit near where you plan to settle ahead of time, or send a unit to patrol the area from time to time.

I think the game should work with the geforce 4 Mx.
I have the somewhat more powerfull geforce 4 Ti 4400 and the game runs on my comp.
The movies do not run that smooth though but my CPU is quite slow so that might cause some of the hold up.

I do have another question of my own though.
Is it normal that resources are distributed different on a Great plains map?
things like desert forest an plains hill cows.

hi all, can someone please explain the epic time scale to me??? im playing bog standard civ 4 "out of the box" no mods or upgrades

i fancy a LONG game, but does epic give more tunrs and slow the research rate ????? thats how i read it in the manual, but doe any experts know what else it changes in a game.

many thanks from a civ noob

Epic reduces the speed of everything by 2/3. So every build, research, ... time is multiplied by 1.5 . Except unit movements. So basically yes, it creates a longer game.

At marathon speed, things are a little different because everything is multiplied by 3 except unit creation (multiplied by 2 if I'm correct). If you add the fact the unit movement is not changed, thus making units moving faster than normal speed, it's a speed which emphasize warmongering.

On epic techs cost 1.5 times as much beakers to research
units and buildings require 1.5 times as many hammers
and culture expansions require 1.5 times more culture than in a normal game
and i think epic has 1.5 more turns then a normal game

thanks very much ju ju, /kwibus, i dont think i have a marathon setting ???

but thanks for the info :goodjob:

I take it the game still finishes in 2050 ??? , thanks ive only finished 3 games so far , and aborted over 10, due to getting hammered by the AI
