I don't have the save just before and after Washington went from 12 to 1 as I am one of the idiots who forget to save.
in civ4.ini, you can set AutoSaveInterval to 1 (to get a save at every turn) and MaxAutoSaves to a large value (to keep all the saves). The second one is new with patch 1.52 but the first one proved usefull with all those early crashes...

Right ok this will sound stupid, but it's really irritating me atm. I've already got a huge colonisation on one Continent but I can't get my settlers to any other continents. What precisely do I need to do this, as some of the AI's have already managed and they've got much less technology/resources/etc than I have?!?!?! I have tried puttin a settler into either a Caravel or a Galley, but neither of these work, and yet they will accept other units e.g. scouts!!!

In answer to my own question...use a Galleon!!:crazyeye:

yes, I can see that. But what then ? I must be dense but what can you actually do with a profile ? Where is it stored ? What options can you configure ?
It enables you to change the settings for each individual person, ie your wife, who hates loud music and wants to listen to the noise of the fan, and you who loves heavy rock and very loud noises. To find out more (to be totally truthful I really don't use it much) the best way is to put your cursor over each option to find out what each thing does.

Thanks, that will be a help. I can go clean it out when I choose. That way if something strange happens, I can check it out properly.

Another question, by the way. I try to keep a watch on who is doing what, but it seems that some of the nations are able to accrue a lot of stuff really, really soon. Is this more because of where they are located (stuff to trade) or what they start with (techs)?

Probably a mixture of both, depending on level the AI will get more intellligent at placing its cities etc as well.

I'm sure the answer is pretty obvious, but I cannot seem to figure it out. What does the little money bag icons (with the $ sign) mean that sometimes appear on improved land?

It just means 5 commerce. A loaf of bread means 5 food, and an anvil means 5 hammers.

1. Religion Spread - Do other religions spread to a holy city? I have two cities under my control right next to one another (neither were conquered - I built both from scratch). One is a Hindu holy city and the other a Christian holy city. Neither religion seems to spread to the other. I can manually do it with a missionary, however.

2. What is "Love the Monarch Day"? This happens sometimes in some of my cities - a big yellow happy face shows up to call my attention to it, and then fireworks are visible for the rest of the turn. What does this mean?

3. What are people's strategy with great people generation? There's so many wonders that increase GP points and their corresponding influences on what type is born. I find it difficult to setup one city to generate great artists and another to generate great scientists etc. It also seems (since every time a new person is born it takes all the other cities +100 to achieve the next one) that it's difficult to balance it out. I usually have one city that keeps producing great people and upping the anti every time. The other cities cannot catch up. Does everyone usually devote only one city to great people generation? Seems rather risky to put all of your wonders in one city.

Religions will only spread by themselves only if there is no religion already in the city.

Don't want to quit. Maybe because I am winning. I have destroyers already and soon will have flight. Maybe 94 turns is enough. Any help? It is my first game (single-player).

What determines which of your cities founds a religion, it seems random to me, which I find a bit annoying, shouldn't you be given an option?

It's completely random as far as I can tell, but no I don't think you should get to choose. Everyone would just pile religions in their capital, or at least in one city. Religion is at least partly outside your control, and that's how it should be.

I think it's random other than that cities that aren't already holy seem to get preference.

I think you can keep playing, just not for score.

I don't think that's quite true, unless it changed with the new patch. I've seen religions spread to my religioned cities, although I usually beat every religion in with missionaries.

In my current game i was playing as Arabia and i took a look at the info screen (f9) which gives useful info like land area, population, commerce, goods produced, but i have no idea what the last three meant. It was something like approval rate, lifetime expectancy, and imports/exports. Im guessing approval rate and life exptectancy are happiness and health respectively. I think imports/exports are trade routes when you have open borders but why is it in the form of a fraction?

This is the third time i have posted this question and i seem to be getting ignored. If no one knows the answer then thats cool just ignore it i just want to make sure you guys didn't overlook my question thats all

I always assumed that the fraction was what it said -- imports/exports -- e.g 118/120 means that the value of imports is 118 and the value of exports 120. Though I am probably wrong, I normally am
