@ PieceOfMind

Spies should use roads/railroads in all civs (enemy or not) since spies start with commando.

@Yxklyx

Spies only have movement 1. Great People (including Great Generals) have movement 2. There are no changes in movement rates for these units due to tech advances. But they can move more tiles due to road/rail/airlift movement.

Are you sure about GGs? I seem to recall an early GG with a speed of only 1. Maybe I didn't have Horseback Riding.

@Yxklyx

I don't think so-but I have never noticed that my spies only move a single tile when I am moving them in civs that I don't have an OB with prior to Mil Sci.

Did you have the GG attached to a unit that only had a move 1? If the GG is attached, the Warlord unit moves at the same speed as the basic unit. So if you attach the GG to a spearman, the GG/spearman will have a movement rate of 1 (unless you give the unit a Morale promotion for +1 movement)

Howdy - I'm Just wondering if theres a way of changing the auto save frequency from every four turns to once at the end of each turn as my computer is contunually overheating and im having to play the same turns over and over!

Is your graphics card overheating? My new NVIDIA card does but it comes with a tool that allows you to increase the fan speed - I set mine to 50% and the crashes have gone away.

@ Stop Killing Me

Edit your CivilizationIV.ini file which is located in your My Games directory (I use Windows XP and the path is C:\Documents and Settings\tony\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword). Look for the following lines which I have bolded below. I have configured my game to autosave every turn and to keep 20 autosaves.

; The maximum number of autosaves kept in the directory before being deleted.
MaxAutoSaves = 20

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 1

Go to the folder where civ4 is installed on your computer. Dependant on the version of the game that you're using, you need to go to the normal Civilization 4 directory, the Warlords subdirectory of the Beyond the sword subdirectory. Follow the link in that folder named _Civ4Config. It opens the CivilizationIV.ini file. Search for the word AutoSaveInterval and when you find it, change the value from 4 to 1.

Note that it is of course preferable to do something about your problems with the cooling system of your computer. What you're doing doesn't sound very healthy for the lifespan of your computer.

edit: too slow...

nbcman,
My apologies. You're absolutely right.

I was getting confused with great spies. They are the ones that have frustrated me. They most certainly cannot use enemy railroads because they don't get the commando promotion. Sometimes when I have little use for a great spy I will use him to scout an enemy, and this problem just annoys.

How do add a map that you download? And how do you save a map you make in Worldbuilder? Thank you.

For using a map you downloaded, you should put it in publiv maps folder ( in the exe file folder ) or in
Worldbuilder saves folder ( in Documents/my games )

And you can save in WB ... if I'm remembering correctly, it is the third button from the right in the top row.

When/Why do buildings or units, partly constructed in a city, begin to slowly lose hammers put into them if you que something else up in front of them and let it sit for a while? It's like the partially completed item is decaying on the building lot or something. When does this decay start? Is it limited to only some buildings or units? Does it get exponentially worse with time sitting in the que but not being finished?

Hammer decay happens to everything. I do recall the delay before it starts was something like 50 turns for buildings and 10 turns for units, independent of game speed. Or it may have been the other way around. :p There is no way to avoid it. Also note that the amount of turns until decay starts is cumulative - if you work on a soldier for a turn, then put it away for six turns, then work on it for a turn, then put it away for another four turns, it will start decaying. In other words, those turns spent idle do not need to be consecutive. I cannot remember what the rate of decay is, but I don't think it's exponential.

henrebotha is right. To complete his post:

There is 2% decay per turn for units after 10 turns and 1% decay per turn for buildings after 50 turns.

In BtS, on some of the maps, I noticed "Toroidal" (or something similar to that spelling) in the same dropdown as the flat maps and the circle maps. What does it mean? Googled it and didn't understand. I know it means donut shape but how does that work?

The map wraps at the top as well as the sides - so if you go off the top of the map, you'll reappear at the bottom and vice versa.
