Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Like Bloodstone says. Also, the more cities have the corp, the more it will cost for the next one. For example in Bloodstone's example, if he spreads the corp for another 79 gold, the next city will cost a bit more than that (assuming he's got that many cities).

I want to get conquest win / not domination.

can i have vassals?

Yep. You'll win conquest if you've made vassals of or wiped out all the other civs.

It's easy to accidentally get domination while you're doing this, though, so you may have to uncheck domination victory when you start your game.

It's either that or be sure that you raze enough cities as you go to create sufficient vacant land to prevent you from achieving the domination percentage. Of course, you have to make sure it stays vacant in that case!

I have Gilgamesh as a Peace Vasal. Yeah yeah, I know not a good idea, but I thought it was at the time. Watching my Domination % at the moment as I would rather try and get the Conquest Victory, so my question is, how much of his territory actually counts towards my ownership? Is it 50%? Pretty sure I can tick him off enough to dump the vasal relationship, but want to watch that %.

Yes, it's 50% of his territory.

Good luck getting him to dump the vassal relationship. That a random shot in my experience. Maybe you and he should attack somebody else.

I'm confused - if you keep him as a vassal, he counts as conquered.

yeah, i play a map on noble but it turned out to be -2 difficulty map, so I dominated completely.... other continent is on muskets me on infantry.....
so i wanted to try conquest for fun...... still annoing as hell, as shaka spent most of the game building virtually hundreds of units. i mean 40 catapults and 50 knighst still defeat 20 infantry

does taj mahal increase amount of GP for next GA?

No. Taj gives a free golden age. Free means free. :D

And don't forget that during golden age you can change civics without anarchy, and you get double great person points... so its a perfect time to switch into Caste Systems, hire a ton of great people, and generate the next GP's for your next golden age (or whatever else you plan to use them for). Just remember to switch back to the civics you want to run normally during the last turn of the golden age. (Note minimum 5 turns between civics changes!).

thanks for the bonus advice, I didnt realise that.
the ingame info is so deficient

would that bonus also stack with pacifism and other bonuses?

Yes, the GA bonus for GP generation stacks with things like Pacifism, the Philosophical trait, the National Epic, and the Parthenon. Which, combined, would result in a 450% GPP bonus in the NE city, never mind how many specialists you might be able to run there thanks to Caste System!

Makes me want to fire up the game just to get that bonus. 450% ! Are Tuesdays double coupon days?

If you do, don't forget to build the Mausoleum of Maussollos to icrease your golden age by 50%. If you starve your GP Farm I think you might just about get 3 GPs, which including the first one from Taj could make for 3 consecutive golden ages

If two civs form a permanent alliance, what happens if one of the civs loses all their cities? Can they be liberated later on?

All you can eat buffet?

Anyway to tell which city has airport built without having to open up each city individually? (sorry, more old Civ3 habits ... i miss that little icon next to the city name).

I think the latest BUG mod has a little white airplane icon on the map next to the city(ies) with an airport.

Other than that, no idea.

My question, I have 5 cities with Coal Plants that have me pushing or exceeding the healthiness of the city. I've got 8 other cities that have Factories but no power as yet. Once the TGD goes on line will the :yuck: from those Coal plants disappear? I'm a little confused on all of the mechanics for :yuck: as it relates to the different steps in the game (i.e. from forge to factory to plant) I get the concept, but don't get how all of the bonuses work out.

Yes... but the cities with no Factories will also get 2 :yuck: from Power... and without a Factory, they get no benefit from Power.

Minor point, but I've occasionally put commerce cities into unhealth situations that way.

This has up my game couple times now. When I build a spaceship part, it wants me to attach it into the space ship. I press ok (or what ever) and it puts the part in its place. BUT, the list of parts on the right hand side doesn't change and it still claims that I haven't built that part. When I go away and then come to check the spaceship again it still hasn't changed. I actually can build that part again (life support for example) in my city! It doesn't happen ALL the time, but it happens so often that I can't build my spaceship.
I have BTS and I don't use any modes.
