Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Warlords theme is "Al Nadda" - but I can't find any youtube vids that aren't civ 4 related :(

How often do the AI send spy, merchants or missionaries overseas? In other words, should I bother chasing down every single caravel?

How trade routes actually work?
And
How espionage actually work?
How can you manage your espionage points?
I have sections on both of these topics in my Beginners' Guide (link in my sig). :D

I have a question:

1) Is there patch for starting places so you can start ANYWHERE on a map? Not on a randomly designated location.

2) How to use that building queue in cities?

4) Why you can invent currency without paper? It doesn't make sense to me.

Currency is the CONCEPT of currency; could be coins, could be rocks, doesn't need to be cash.

1. Not aware of one. The map generator tries to put you in a place with nice resources (or puts resources where you start). On single player, you can worldbuilder yourself somewhere else, but you can see resources that will be revealed later in the game can be a bit of a spoiler.

2. Basically, shift+click adds to the end of the queue; ctrl+click inserts at the front; alt+click produces a unit indefinitely; and you can combine these with the alt key.
If you alt+click on 2 units, so one appears beneath the other, the city will produce those units alternately indefinitely (I assume it works for any amount of units)
I think, too, if you have the indefinite unit on, and you shift+click a building underneath, you will start the building after finishing the unit, and then resume the unit production.
Think thats mostly all :p

lmao no 3
4. covered above

4) Exactly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rai_stones

Rai stones are large, circular stone disks carved out of limestone in the island of Yap, Micronesia. They have been used in trade by the locals and are described by some observers as a form of currency.

Rai stones are circular disks carved out of limestone with a large hole in the middle. The size of the stones varies widely; the largest are 3 meters (10 ft) in diameter, 0.5 meters (1.5 ft) thick and weigh 4 metric tons (8,800 lb).
The extrinsic (perceived) value of a specific stone is based not only on its size and craftsmanship but also on the history of the stone. If many people — or no one at all — died when the specific stone was transported, or a famous sailor brought it in, the value of the rai stone increases.

Thanks for the answers.

Few questions more:

1) Can the soundtracks in game be changed to something else?

2) I download a map from downloads. What folder to put it?

3) Is there a way to put more units in the game( Different unit pictures I mean)?

Hi everyone, I'm stupid noob, help me, please, to find a solve with my problem.
I want to know, which files are responsible for the number of countries and rulers on the map. And Where can I find more civs and leaders for my game?
For example, I want to see for a head of Russia 3 leaders - Petr I, V. Putin, Ekaterina Velikaya. What I need to do to make this happen?
There is a map in which a total of 18 civilizations, but I want 34. How do I achieve this?
I want game with 34+ civs at the Earth map. If I have a map with 34 civs for BtW, how can I play this map in Warlords, where I have a map for 18 civs:crazyeye:? What files I need to move?
Sorry for my English, it's my first practice

PS I have last versions of Civ 4 Warlords and BtS
PSS I will be grateful for the links

1. You have a few options... There is a setting for a custom music folder in the options menu. Not used it, so can't say how to use it but should be rather intuitive.
OR turn the ingame music off and run iTunes or whatever playing what you want to listen to.

2. If its a specific map, then its probably a worldbuilder file. Put it in My Games > Beyond the Sword > Saves > Worldbuilder
and you should be able to access that map by "Play a Scenario" on the main menu screens.

3. Thread which shows you how to make a mod, including stuff about pictures. I don't think it deals with units specifically, but you may be able to work out how to edit them once you know how to edit xmls and create dds files. OTOH if you want to make the unit itself as it appears on the map, that is trickier and I haven't attempted that :p need some software, knowledge of how to do it. And some spare time :)

Don't beat yourself up. Noobs are people too :p but feel free to post even the silliest of questions in this thread

Well, if you start a custom game you can add more and more civs by changing the 'closed' entries to AI players. And you can use worldbuilder to change things around. There's probably other more complicated ways, but this should work fine. However, I don't think you can add civs to an existing map, not this way anyway.

For more leaders and/or civilisations check out the creation & customization forum. I tell you, you'll be impressed!

What if your wife is called Dawn? And even if this new Dawn is popular doesn't mean she's gonna bake apple pie like her.
