Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

It's great to boogie to!

And I'm sure he doesn't say "Only 2 years ago - the man who would sit on your face - he's on the case, now he's in love with you!". It does sound like he says that though.

how come no matter what i try to install from this site, mod, patch, or update either the game is not in the location specified or, so says my computer, there is no version of civ iv in it ?

civ iv gold is accually the base game with the warlords expansion pack, can not seem to find BTS, did have a copy civ iv complete but my machine could not "see" the disc.

all i seem to read on this site is stupid nonsence ! i am having serious problems with getting mods, patches and updates to install on civ iv gold edition. is ther anyone out ther who has had these problems and do you know how to fix them, any help would be appriciated.

First off, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. ;) As for your question, this particular forum and thread generally focus more on gameplay than on technical issues. For answers to your questions I would suggest posting your queries in (a) the technical support forum and/or (b) the thread for the particular mod that's giving you trouble--you'll find these in the Creation and Customization forum.

I see people making fancy dot maps. Is that in the regular game or is it a mod? If a mod, which one?

One other thing. When attacking with a unit, there is an option to create group/ungroup. Is there any strategy to using this option?

BUG alt-x to place ctrl-x to show/hide.

basically this is to help you with groups of units. You can deselect some and make this a group, or ungroup your entire stack and give orders etc etc. Its up to you how you use it, no direct bearing on strategy

hey guys im new here. just started the game and wanted answers to two, proably very basic questions.

firstly, how can u increase the game length from 2050AD to another date? is it possible simply or by a mod. if by a mod, which one am i looking for?

secondly, during gameplay many quests come like make 11 ships, or capture a resource, etc.. is there a way to see which quests u have, how close you are to complete them, etc? like suppose u had to build 11 ships, then it tells u have built 6/11 ships.. and it shows you all the quests you ahve..etc..?

You can carry on after 2050AD by clicking "Wait... Just one more turn" afterwards. Someone will technically win a time victory, however.

The log shows quests (button in top left corner of screen), but not how close you are to completing them, you have to go through your cities/units and count them.

Stats screen (F9, then Statistics tab, may be BUG thing) shows how many things of one kind you have build, however won't show you how far in the builds you are.

I'm considering playing a game with the Always Peace option. Rather than finding out the hard way, I thought that I would ask the following:

1. Does this mean no war between the human and AIs?

2. Does this mean no war among the AIs?

3. What happens to the barbs, assuming that you leave them on? Can they attack you? Can you attack their cities?

Thanks for any answers.

Can you buy Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword at any major store anymore, or is only the complete edition availible?

It's on Amazon for 7 bucks.

Yeah, no war between any civ, but barbs are always hostile.
I remember I tried it ages ago, and got bored cos I wanted to burn cities, and found a barb city close by and went on a rampage!

you gonna do always peace/conquest victory? :p

Thanks for the info. I asked because Always War is only between the human and AIs, so I wondered if it was the same for Always Peace.

I mostly avoid wars anyway, so I am considering a game where that is the only option. In my current game, my intended go at culture victory got side tracked when two of my neighbors DoW on me. By the time I had destroyed one and humbled the other, my culture victory was pretty well a dead issue. Meanwhile, HC is almost there with his culture victory, so I am stuck on the military track to take him out.

Great idea! I'll have to have a go at that one!:rolleyes:

never done always war. Just thinking about it, I didn't do many games with always peace, but there never was a war (definitely noble and above too). Chances are there should have been a war if there could have been...

you know it can be done I'm sure ;)

Always war is challenging - because the AI don't go to war against each other, but you DoW them as soon as you meet.

I got stomped last time I played an AW game at warlord, and I can beat immortal (sometimes) ;)

started a thread about this, but maybe it belongs in here (oops :))

Hi everyone,

Great forum, seems like a lot of people really know what they're doing. And I thought I was good for being able to beat the game on Noble . I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of an ABC's guide of tile improving as at the moment I usually just put my workers on auto, which seems kind of noob. I'm looking for something that discusses the advantages of cottages vs farms, mines vs windmills, etc, when you want to use each and why. Thanks!
