Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Well that's good news for my current counter offensive.

That's seems weird though that collateral damage is selective... in a city no less.
:dunno:

Thanks.

It would be nice if real life was like that.

I don't think so. But you can ask the AI "What will you give me for this?". They do seem to come up with a fair price if they have enough gold, which is different for each AI. Also, if the AI is getting close to paper, they'll still buy the map. Also, obviously, don't start giving away or trading your map if you're getting close to circumnavigation.

You can, of course, look on the minimap to see how much of the world you know about, but I don't think that's your question.

Just made a killing selling mine to everybody, raked in pretty much all of the world's available gold. It's still early in the game, though, most of them only had 40-60, with a couple up over 100, but they all paid me everything they had for my map. :D

Next question: I'm thinking about a stomp'em game on Earth18 as Persia soon. When I go to attack Athens, will his Phalanxes get the +100% defense against Immortals, or are they technically not "Chariots"? Now, if they do get their bonus, I'd figure it's safe to assume that my Immortals will get their +100% against Phalanx/Axemen and it'll be a wash, but I just wanna be sure.

Immortals class as chariots.

You're right... that wasn't my question. I sell and trade maps frequently, often to the same "customer" but never until someone ( hopefully me ) has circumnavigated the globe or early enough in the game to not be a big deal. What I was asking is whether there is a way for the human to know the size of the map known to the AI.

Not that I'm aware of. You can only get a vague idea based upon how much they're willing to pay for your map. And that can depend upon how much gold they have available.

Yes. It's difficult to keep them because your population and land area is part of the equation.

Can you have a vassal state under your control in One City Challenge?
F

Play an OCC as Egypt or one of the southern European nations on Earth18 at a lower level and find Mansa. Guaranteed vassal. Sometimes he tells me I've researched Feudalism before Nimoy does.

Currently I'm playing on inland sea, but I'll keep that in mind. The moment has come and gone at this point (Ghandi died) but it made me wonder.

The Earth map came with Vanilla. I think Earth18 did specifically as well. If not, you can just edit the text file of the Earth map to make it so.

By the way, is Earth18 something new to down load? Or will it be in one of the existing map packages (Vanilla, WL, BtS)?
F

"Earth18Civs" or whatever it's really called is a scenario that came with Vanilla and BtS (so I'd say it's a safe assumption it's with Warlords too). It's basically a Ginormous Earth map with the 18 Vanilla civs in their right starting places.

EDIT: And a question... If I build my Forbidden Palace on another continent, and then later free the colonies on that continent, will I be able to make another FP to replace the one I no longer have?

Hello Civ Fans

This is my first question, has anyone experienced a complete shut down and exit when you try to load transports (grouped 4 or more together) with troops (Navy Seals) or any other troops? If so how do you correct this so it will not happen again?
Thanks.

Pop.

I heard that was a problem in multiplayer games, are you all patched up?

Never had a problem in single player.

Thanks Paradigm Shifter,

I only use single player mode, I will ensure that I have all the patches.

I was playing mp bts and these came up txt_key_eventtrigger_patron_of_knowledge_ and txt_key_eventtrigger_tornado_2 . My question is was the other person cheating or typing codes? thanks for any info

Those are part of the code defining the triggers for random events. Usually, when you see these kinds of things instead of the event description, name, or whatever is appropriate, it means a non-fatal error in game code has occurred. If it is not recurrent and does not crash the game, don't worry about it. If it keeps happening, then you probably have had a game file become corrupt and will need to reinstall. I am assuming that you are using the latest patches. If not, patching would be the first thing to do. (It is not something the other player is doing.)
