Is there an option or a mod to always force compact stack display for AI units? For example, 5 swords, 6 cats, etc. Can't see anything on a laptop even wihout inerface (ALT + I), there's 50+ units in AI stacks and units aren't completely grouped. :gripe:

The BUG mod has some unit display grouping options that will probably give you what you're after.

Those are for my own units, it doesn't help with AI stacks.

EDIT: BUG options do help in AI cities with enough espionage points, it's still a problem outside of the city...

Somewhere there's instructions for making it like civ V, one unit per tile, but you can make it like 20 or 30 units per tile... I don't remember where it is, though, sorry..

Is it totally random as to what AI players you will face against? Or there is there some set algorithm? In my experience the Inca appear very often indeed, as do the Aztecs, with the Chinese making regular occurences. I've barely, if ever, seen the Holy Roman Empire, Vikings and the Portguese are rare too. It seems a little too... predictable to be random.

Interesting point and ive been wondering about the same thing. It seems i get pitted with Monty more than half of the time, while some leaders did not even appear once in the 10-12 games i played so far.

...I searched for it in the forum, but didn't find answer:
Is there any patch ot something to modify the inflation level in the game?

@salty_mid, MaxWar: I've thought the same sometimes, but I think you'd need a really, really large sample to be sure (if it's not obvious from the code). It's common enough even with perfectly random number generators (like radioactive decay counters) to get "lucky" streaks -- in fact if you don't get such streaks, it's not really random. Personally I tend to remember Monty more if he shows up than some other people, so I wouldn't trust my own memory of who is common and who is rare.

Alt+X to place BFCs (and make the overlay appear if it was off) and CTRL+X to toggle the overlay.

You can modify the inflation rate in the assets/XML/GameInfo/gameSpeedInfo.xml for the game speed you are using, but I don't know if that is what you are asking.

...I hoped that there is an easier way, like someone already did this change and I just have to replace a file, or something like that.

I'm trying to remember, and a quick search here hasn't revealed the answer: does your first won battle with your unique unit kick off a golden age?

I don't think so, cuz that would be quite memorable, I ALWAYS do a war with my UU unless I'm India (Fast Workers don't do well in combat)
EDIT in civ iv, not iii

I'm guessing it's been a while since you played, IglooDude? Haven't seen you around recently. :)

It's Civ3 you're thinking of there, with Golden Ages from UU battles and the right wonder combinations. In Civ4 you get Golden Ages from Great People and the Taj Mahal.

Hey there Emperor, LTNS indeed! Yes, it's been somewhere just under four years since my last Civ4 game (or any Civ game for that matter). :)

Unless I'm mistaken, the game first chooses the opponent civs, then from among the available leaders for that civ. So you're definitely more likely to be up against HC or Monty than one of the particular leaders of a 3-leader civ like Russia or England. But any other bias you're seeing is probably explainable by the small sample size. If you play 1000s of games you'd expect to see each civ represented about the same number of times.

I used to wonder much the same thing because it seemed that every game I played, Hannibal would show up. But I actually haven't seen him in a while. Now it seems I'm always running into Pericles. It's really just the human brain trying to impose a pattern on something that's essentially random.

My question is about city management pretty much.
So, Paris - my capital - is ranked the #1 city in the world, yet it's unhealthy. My health rating is at -3.
Unhealthy:
2 from flood plains
13 from population
(15 total)
Healthy:
2 from fresh water
1 from forest
4 from bonuses
2 from buildings
3 from difficulty level
(12 total)
How do I make my population healthy again? All buildings offering health bonuses I have built...
Also, the population is unhappy because it's too crowded in Paris.
Unhappy:
13 "It's too crowded!"
(total 13)
Happy:
2 "Military presence impresses us!"
2 "Some buildings make us happy!"
1 "We enjoy luxurious resources!"
1 "In our religion we trust! (Judaism)"
5 "We enjoy life!"
(Total 11)
How do I fix this? Anything offering happiness or health, I built.

Also, what are the little plus icons next to citizen, priest, scientist, etc.? What does it do?
