Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I'd say you need AT LEAST 2 GBs of RAM to play Civ 4 on Vista, especially if you want to play huge maps. If you want to play the 32 civs or more mods, then I'd reccomend more RAM.

Also, I reccomend a decent 2.0 Ghz processor minimum, or a duel/multi core processor.

Hi there, newbie at your service,

I havequite an annoying problem that pretty much breaks my peace mongering heart: twice now I have been noticed that I declared war on Tokugawa, whereas I did nothing for it.

The very frustrating part is that, having 2 defensive pacts, these are nullified and I found myself alone against someone ten times my military power...

So how could I have declared war without willing? Is there a logical explanation, is it a known bug with a known answer or am I definitely on my own, condemned to conquest victories?

I just captured an enemy capital that has the parthenon, the minaret, UoS, AP, GLighthouse, but none of them are producing culture, why? The city is no longer in revolt, however it is still 100% chinese (the former owner, I am Maya.) It's a sweet city and I want to keep it, what to do?

Welcome to CFC!

If you had defensive pacts in place, these are the likely reason you found yourself at war. Tokugawa must have declared war on one of your DP partners. When this happens, any and all DP partners of the non-belligerent civ are automatically at war with the belligerent civ; but since DPs can't exist in war time, they then get canceled. This is the risk you take when you enter a DP.

Usually you want to make sure either you or your DP partner (preferably both of you) are strong enough in power that no other civ will risk declaring war on you. If you partnered with a weak civ, and Toku was as powerful as you say, it's no wonder he was willing to attack all of you.

When you capture wonders, you retain their bonus effects and their GP-generating points, but you lose their cultural output.

I was thinking about going out and buying the two expansions to civ iv and I was wondering if you can play both at the same time? That is to say will you be able to play with all the warlord expansions features like Wonders and civilizations while getting all the features from beyond the sword?

all the contents of warlords, except the scenarios, is included into BTS. So if you play BTS, you will have access to the warlords contents, wether you own the expansion or not.

Oh so if I just want all the possible civilizations, leaders, buildings and wonders ect. Then I should just buy Beyond the sword. Thats what I believe you are telling me, is that correct? If so you just save me having to buy both.

Yes, that's correct. It's not worth buying both unless you're really keen on the Warlords scenarios, so save yourself the money. :)

Thanks Tisutil, it seems so obvious now that I feel stupid!

I did have 2 defensive pacts but my partner had none with each other. Too bad, but foreseenable, that Toku attacked the weakest. But no worries, Cyrus is still a match, I just hope that he doesn't have alot of old units...

So the lesson is learnt, thanks again.
And yes, tisutil

So useful that I can proudly annouce I won a Scientific victory thanks to you!
OK, just Noble level, with some difficuties, around year 2030, ranking "unprepared" and I was 3rd by score... but I'm a happy newbie now!

what does the ratio with the spy symbol before it mean?
That's the ratio of your espionage points to your rival's espionage points. If your espionage points towards him are more than his towards you, then the spy symbol will appear - this is a good situation. If the spy symbol doesn't appear beside some opponents, it means that they have more espionage points against you than you have against them, so you may want to work on improving this situation.

Of course, this only matters a lot in the later game (when more espionage points are being generated), so you don't need to increase your espionage slider in the early game just because a few of the AI have more espionage points against you.
