Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Thanks guys! That's what I needed to know!

Henrebotha, I don't mean to rub it in but I got BTS mostly on your recommendation (you didn't seem biased toward Vanilla... Makes sense to me.) and I'm enjoying it:blush::cringe:.

So, Boudica (bootycall) could produce Combat 4 Commandos in a city w/ the state religion, West Point, Barracks, 1 settled GG, and running Theocracy and Vassalage civics!!!?

Has this been done in a documented game?

Edit: Military Science is required as well. So, it would be pretty late in the game, but still around the time of Modern Infantry!

Dude, I am at a point where I would seriously maim someone for a copy of BtS.

Dumb question since I am away from my gaming PC and cannot find the answer: What is the default number of opposing AIs (i.e. not counting you, the player) on a standard-sized map?

what exact techs do you need to enter into the industrial age?
its a UHV requirement for aztecs-BTS-RFC, and i don't know if this mod is any different from vanilla civ4 or not.. either way, i don't know the required techs

i researched scientific method in time, hoping that would do it.... no dice, i lose:(

Hahaha, I like your username, KidB.

lol, i like your pic, radiohead fans unite!
... now some one plz help me out here.... i've lost this one too many times, and wasted too much time

I was playing a game with 18 AI. On my continent I had 8 AI. I was at war with 2 of them (one was a Vassal), and allied with 4 of the other 6. At the exact same time, every single AI on the continent declared war on me, which made no sense. I was over +20 relations with Saladin, +18 with Brennus, and +16 with Ragnar and they all declared war on me at the same time. I had no negative relations at all with them, except -1 for having close borders with Ragnar.

Any ideas on why this happened?

Maybe an Apostolic Palace resolution to declare war on you which got a majority of votes.

What do you mean with allied with 4 of the other 6? Did you start the game in a permanent alliance with those 4 civilisations? Did you maybe mean non-aggression pact?

You need one industrial age technology to enter the industrial era. Industrial techs are (as of Warlords):
  • Fascism
  • Communism
  • Scientific Method
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Medicine
  • Electricity
  • Combustion
  • Fission
  • Steam Power
  • Steel
  • Assembly Line
  • Railroad
  • Artillery
  • Industrialism

Note, however, that some of those techs require other industrial techs to be researchable, so you can't research them to enter the industrial era.

What I meant by that was that they were friendly towards me. They also were the same religion, so as far as I know there was no voting. The 2 that I were at war with were Hindu, 3 of the others were Buddhist, and myself plus everyone else were Confucian.

If you don't have any cities with the apostolic palace religion, then you're not notified of the voting. But anyone who does have a city with the apostolic religion will take part in the voting and unless they defy the resolution, they will have to abide by the outcome.

So the state religions that you mentioned above aren't of influence to this situation. It's all about who controls the Apostolic Palace and who have to follow its ruling.

So I guess, you were at war with a full member of the Apostolic Palace while you didn't control any cities with the religion of the Apostolic Palace. In that case, the full members of the Apostolic Palace (who control the most votes) can propose this resolution and if it passes, also the voting members have to follow the resolution (unless they defied it).

How do you make the fonts bigger? I like to play high resolution which makes the interface on the city screen unreadable by me. Looked under all options and didnt see it.

You could try Blue Marble. It has a font scaling feature. :)

Hi!

I have this problem: I'm trying to cross the borders of Catherine to declare war, but I can't cross it. It just won't go. What am I doing wrong?

You can declare war by going into diplomacy with Catherine and selecting "Let's discuss something else..." then "Your head would look good on the end of a pole". Alternatively, you can Alt-click her name on the scoreboard.

If neither of these things work, then you must be in a temporary peace treaty with her (either because of a recently ended war with her, or because of a demand that was accepted). In this case, it should say "Cannot declare war" when you mouse over her name on the scoreboard. Wait a few turns and try again. :)

If your problem is that the units don't enter her borders (as opposed to entering but not declaring war), then there may be a third possibility: maybe there is no way for your units to move to the place you're clicking - for instance, if it's on the other side of an ocean.

Can someone explain flank attack to me? I attack siege-containing stacks in the open all the time, but I can only remember my mounted units picking out the siege once.
