Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

We'll I'm not looking forward to it or anything, it's just that they're vital to my war and the AI has been also using and I've been using them to help me take cities so I wanted to know how long before the world is devastated.

G'day everyone,

Can someone point me to the thread that contains the information about how I change the splash movie in BTS to the default in Civ IV, and also how I change the music so it's paying Baba Yetu.

Thanks.

Thanks but it doesn't show up any options for me to make the changes. Iirc there was some file I needed to edit, but it's been ages and I can't remember exactly what it was that I had to edit.

No files need to be changed.
It's in there - just search.

I think was must be talking about seperate options here.

When you start up Civ IV you can go to Options and change various settings like audio, video etc. In BTS there is no option here to changed the opening video or music.

This is a Screenshot of the Advanced options. As you can see there isn't an entry to edit the opening movie.

I think I see what you're getting at. IIRC, this is what you need to do--I caution you, however, that it's been a while since I did this, so I may have a something incorrect.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Art\Movies\Intros and copy the Intro.bik file.
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Art\Movies\Intros and paste the file there.
  3. Rename the file in the same folder called BTS Intro Final.bik (I just added a .old extension to it, so mine is now called BTS Intro Final.bik.old). This is so you can go back to the original BTS intro if something doesn't work.
  4. Rename Intro.bik to BTS Intro Final.bik. That should replace the BTS intro movie and music with the one from vanilla Civ IV.

Thanks mate, I'll give that a go when I get home tonight! :goodjob:

When starting Civ IV (BTS) and hitting "Play Now" how many AI civs will there be for Standard & Large World sizes? Are there any other variables that will impact the number of AI civs?

Is there a way to randomize the number of AI Civs within a certain range (e.g. between 6-10 AI Civs, or something)?

Start your game with custom game rather than play now.

Can more than one random event occur in the game in the same turn?

Can a Civ be hit my multiple random events in the same turn?

Thanks!

Is there a random number of opponents option under custom game? As far as I can tell you select the number of AI civs.

And, again, what are the default number of AI civs at different world sizes under Play Now?

How do I insert something into the middle of a build queue?

Is there anyway I can "return" tiles to another civ? My cities are taking land from my vassal's BFC and his cities are shrinking.

Remove the citizen you have working that tile from inside your city screen and leave it open. Once you roll over to the next turn the vassal should notice it and move to fill the spot, assuming it makes sense for him to do so. I will stress SHOULD, since the AI isn't always looking at things the way we do.

Are you sure ? Even if you're not working that tile, it will stay in your territory, and thus the vassal should not be able to work it, doesn't he ?

Loukoum is right, I obviously wasn't thinking to clearly! If it's within your cultural borders I don't think he is going to have the option of picking that tile up from you. I was thinking about the situation where you have the "overlap" between two of your own cities, in which case you can technically share that tile between the two cities.

There might be another vassal mechanic that might allow this but I highly doubt it, one of the more experienced veterans more familiar with vasal mechanics can probably provide a better answer.

Vassals have no right to culturally disputed tiles. If your city's BFC overlaps with a vassal city's BFC, even if they have more culture, it's yours.
