Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Umm...which mod was it?

Yes, and additionally: What wonder in that mod?

There are so many different perequisites, that can be responsable for that effect, that with the present information this is a bad quiz :) (p.e. perquisite of an victorious army, elite naval units, special governments and so).

the Lord of the Mods and got a chance to figure out my dilemma . The the Tower of Fire or the Fang which comes first needs 5 walls in the cities ı have . ı had and it confused me until ı noticed the walls were from a wonder and ı actually didn't have them . In the version ı had given up after starting the wonder , ı had captured a few cities and they had walls and that was the thing that had enabled me . Furthermore , the mod provides no settlers for Isengard after a certain point , the wonders in question come late in the game and all my cities would be larger than 6 meaning no walls could be built . Until this one , where ı was boxed in early and had used my last settler close to capital , it couldn't grow beyond 4 . Good thing as my larger cities still could not start the wonder , it was never in their build list ... A mystery of more than 2 years finally solved . Didn't name it initially because the final posts so far are ramblings by me , a wish list .

staying in the same mod , can anybody find the seed for this save ? ı don't know a way , but the map has been so good , spectacular in fact . It might even have a ring continent in it , fully appropriate . In LOTM mountains are unpassable for many unit types and a range of them keeps my rear areas sparsely populated while the deserts slow down the attack from the front . Here in this screenshot ı have got into a proper argument with Angmar and stacking hides my nearly 500 strong forces . ı am ashamed to say 6 enemy units made it to hill left undefended next the city the warrior "defends" . Even if their losses totalled about 780 in the 9 or so turns that followed . ı really would like to do likewise to Mordor and the rest.

( ı have the numbers only because ı was badly burned in a previous spat right here ... )

If you use CAII you can get the seed by clicking on the world map. When it comes up click on a square and select [Properties] from the list. That will give you the seed number.

There is also a utility called Seed Beast which will get you the number but I don't know how that works.

downloaded the Civ AssistII if that's the programme , but ı utterly fear adding software to my computer . Was hoping somebody would do it for me since ı think my saves would not open on many as noticed in the days when ı had a Vanilla that seemed likely to have some kind of scientific age . Looking for seed beast now ( which apparently is no longer available) .

780 units killed in 9 turns, r16? What?

Trying to win my first 20K culture game, and hoping that I have enough wonders in the city. Does the lux slider affect the culture produced by your civ? Or does it just make people happier? If I can make enough people happy for a "We Love the King Day" (WLTKD), does that increase the culture per turn?

I might be confusing this with Civ4, where the slider is actually a *culture* slider.

Culture slide not in III. Sliders will not affect culture directly. WLTDK will help with reducing corruption iirc, not culture. Small wonders will add to culture.

Not a problem with 31 civs AW. Done that many in a single turn, one at a time.

seeing the screenshots posted by wmxa , ı won't doubt it . This was a large map with ı think 10 or so civs , in any case Angmar invariably rocks . The one ı am playing now has Angmar once again , having half of the world and killed Hobbits , Mordor and Harad and Easterners in its continent ... Looking forward to that one when ı land there .

regarding the seed , ı made as far as the second pic and failed to find the number . Is the seedbeast still available ?

Click on the world map tab of CAII. Then right click on the screen and select properties. That should give the seed.

ı usually save the threads ı see on the web , to re-read them at home at a slower pace . Didn't this one last Friday , when this seed question came up . Apologies to Darski , since ı thought he had meant file not tile (and he says square , checking it now) . At home ı did what he actually said and it works . And similar thanks to vxma , not only for the CAII suggestion but because at the end of the conquests.ini the seed of the last game played , -not the one currently played- is given .

one further thing about the seeds , if you were to type 9193422 in the place would you get this same world on every computer or is it individual to each machine / game ? If it works for every computer , are the maps pre-drawn and stored ?

you see , if my computer did this , the world map ı mean , on its own , it would have some humour ...

I think I have used the seed fro othes and gotten essentially their map. To get it nearly identical you have to use the exact same civs as they did and all setting the same such as temp and land type.

You also have to have the civs in the same order to get it correct.

BTW darski is a female.

apologies to Darski once again , if that has caused offence .

this might go on the modding section as well , but when settling does the AI know the places of resources ? Say , it hasn't yet discovered iron working yet , but places the town to have the iron resource within its cultural borders . Trying to mod the LOTM , ı would like the Dwarfs settle always near mountains and not on some choice grassland with cows and wheat and all . ı would give them a food resource in the mountains and they wouldn't know the likes of cows until the end of the first era .

not a problem but I just don't know how anyone can think that my avatar is anything but some old woman

Hi guys,

I'm a total newb with regards to Civ and strategy sims in general (my forte is in flight sims like Il-2). My friend gave me his "CivIII Complete" CD collection and I started playing a couple days ago.

I read the description for CivIII online, and it mentions multiplayer and more nations than what I have now. However, when I load the game (v.1.29f), none of these features appear on the main menu.

As far as I can tell, there aren't any other patches for the game. Maybe I'm just being thick, as always :king:

Oh, and, I must say, this game is addicting! I have no idea what I'm doing, and my nations stink, but it's fun! :D

I think you are just using the wrong version of Civ3. The version number 1.29f is Vanilla, and that has no multiplayer. You probably want Conquests, which you of course have already. You just need to start the right executable.

I think I see now. However, CivIIIConquests is 1.27f....Is this the latest patch? I was under the impression that CiVIIIComplete merged all of the previous games and was the definitive version.

Thanks for your help.

- PS: I've been reading the manual and it mentions workers can reforest a tile after making an improvement like irrigation. Does a road or forest layer onto the previous irrigation modifier, or does it just replace it?

Should I automate all my workers, or micromanage them? (My friend says automate, but they don't seem to do the best thing always).
