1 & 2) neither disbanding nor chopping can help building any kind of wonder (or a palace).

3) normally it gives just money but the discovery of recycling makes it give shields too.

4) effectiveness is the same no matter the distance to the target.

1: a) no b) no.
2: a) no b) no.
3: if i recall correctly, once you have a recycling center in the city it gives you both money and shields; if not only money.
4: don't remember - i'll pass the burden of giving a sure reply to someone else :D

EDIT: uh oh, crosspost.

I just tried the first C3C Scenario. About victory point scoring - do you need to have the site within your borders, or do you just need a unit occupying the tile? Also, once the tile is in your borders, does it need a unit on it?

I was just wondering...for a newb who has some sort of idea on what needs to be done improvement wise (I read alot of stuff in the Military academy) what would be the best difficulty to start on? The lowest for practice before going on, or is that a waste of time and should start at a few difficulties up?

I can only advise from personal experience. I played Civ II for years before I got III so I started on warlord and it was competitive but not too hard for me.

The smaller the Map Size, the quicker the game. So, you could start with a Tiny Map at Chieftain Level, with say 2 opponent AI Civs......and work your way up in difficulty levels.

You will probably learn something new with each game you play! ;)

Eman has some good suggestions there. I've paid particular attention to threads that talk about what makes a game easy or hard, and I try to focus on just one new idea in each game, gradually increasing the difficulty just within a particular playing level. I even played one game with NO opponents when I was first playing, just to learn the game mechanics. :p

Some of the things that make a game easier are fewer opponents, barbs set to sedentary, archipeligo maps (the AI takes longer to find you and doesn't do invasions well), lower aggression levels, hand-picking your opponents.

Some people like to jump right in and start with harder games. They say you learn a LOT from your mistakes. I started easy and made plenty of mistakes to learn from (still do make mistakes and still learn). Just do what feel comfortable for you. :)

Thanks for the advice. I think I will learn better from starting at a lower then starting at a very high level, so I will give it a try. So I'll start off with a nice small, cheiften, archipeligo map with sedentary barbs and work my way up from that. Thanks again for the advice.

Is corruption waste? As in if you make a courthouse(which decreases corruption) you will gain some lost spt-shields per turn?

If you build a Courthouse in a remote city (viz. "Dead City"), you may be disappointed at the "benefit" of building the Courthouse! ;)

"Refused to acknowledge envoy..."

Is the number of turns this happens a random number or is there a formula? I'm on a huge deity map if that matters...

It also depends on how "hot" the war is. If they've lost many units and cities, they will be willing to talk earlier.

 I get what you're saying.

When deciding where to build the Forbidden Palace (FP), is it more beneficial to build it as far away from the Palace or having it on a different continent?

For example, from the Palace, if City-A is 15 tiles away and is separated by water and City-B is 20 tiles away by land, is City-B a better candidate for a FP or City-A?

I've never ever built a FP before as I like to build and can never decide when to stop expanding long enough for me to decide where to place the FP :p

And also, can the FP be moved to another city once it's built?

Pacifist, what version/patch are you playing? That will have some impact on FP advice. The FP can be moved, but only if you abandon/gift/lose the city that initially has it.

Oopsy! I have C3 Complete (includes C3, PTW and Conquest). I only play Conquest and it is v1.22.
