Quick Questions and Answers

Hello

Can anyone tell me the exact maximum amount of money you can get by trading your lux-ress. on epic speed? Does it change on different difficulties?

Trunkenb0lT

I think its 360.
This seems to be the best deal the Ai will accept.

What is the default starting age for the earth? 6 billions years doesn't appear to be in the game.

I changed the default a while ago, and can't seem to remember it. (I think it's the default for "earth" and not the universe.)

In my last 2 games i've had two great spots near my capital, but a city state is a couple of tiles away from where i'd put my settler. "You cannot create a new city 4 tiles away from another city."

In the first game, the spot where I couldn't build had 3 fish in the ocean, around 5 mines (despite being near a city state) and I would have built Petra no problem IMO. Instead I would have had to settle very near my capital to do this (and miss out on mines plus take some of my capital away), where there would only be 4 tiles between my capital city and the next city. I like my cities to have the most space possible.

My last game had me starting in Africa, a bit north of South Africa but south-east of Nigeria, where there was a city state. Washington started north-west of Nigeria. There was a big valley with many river tiles, mines and a banana. I would have had the whole river for food and good production. plus i'd cut off Washington settling near the state.

Instead I couldn't settle near the river period, I would have had to settle on barren land. Oh, I could have settled on a part of the river, but that would leave only 4 tiles between my capital and the next city.

"The only way to get the ideal spot would have been to take out the city state." This was my thought at the start of the first game, until I did take control of the city state (being denounced a warmonger by 3/4's of other civs, despite me only want a good city) and was told I couldn't destroy a city that was a capital. This is pure BS.

How long does warmonger status last?

IIRC 50 turns from the last incident that made that leader think of you as a warmonger. If you've done any conquesting or saber rattling in the mean time, it'll go on longer. This duration may be modified by the leader's personality but I think the modification is more to the threshold that makes that leader think of you as a threat to global stability. Montezuma for instance, notorious threat to global stability that he is, seldom cares when you go reaving. Gandhi is likely to denounce you when you capture your first capitol or CS.

Even though I have open borders with Hiawatha my ships can't cross his water tiles - which is effectively blocking me in. He is hostile to me as i just took a few of his cities then sued for peace but we have "open borders".
Why can't i move my ships through his borders?

a few away from the coast and light blue (not at home at the moment). Does that have a bearing on it?
I have 2 trapped frigates and 1 trapped privateer.

Well Frigates and privateers can cross ocean tiles by themselves, so might be something in your open borders treaty. Are your units already in his territory? If not, could your OB treaty have lapsed without your noticing? Double check your Deal History tab in the Diplo screen when you get home.

If you were at war that recently it seems unlikely you have open borders. The war state would cancel any previous open borders agreements, and the peace treaty would then close them. You need to re-establish embassies and then see what he'd need for borders to open again. Otherwise you'll just have to wait out the 10 turn peace treaty and attack again to get your ships out.

I have a request to make. Would someone be willing to open attached game file and check whether this start is not alone on an island?
Reason is that I've started this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=492985 and in this thread I plan to make reports and post pictures about the game's progress, but I don't want to do this with a lonely island start. Then I'll pick a different save.

And I don't want to check myself, as I don't want to know the map yet, incase it is a valid start after all. All DLC needed. Retiring the game should reveal the map and make clear whether Theodora is alone on this island or not. I don't want to know more! Thanks for your help in advance.

You are not alone on your landmass, but for the Liberty vs. Honor test you are trying to do, you probably want to re-roll. A few more details in the spoiler.

Spoiler :
You are on the smallest landmass with only one other AI. The other AI are all together on another continent and you will need Astronomy to get to them.

Thanks you, Browd! I haven't looked at the spoiler you posted, but I'm going with your 'you probably want to re-roll'. If I'm not alone here, I'm isolated at the least. I had a few other starts lined up.

I have 2 composite bowman with a warrior that has the medic 2 promotion. If I give the bowman the march promo will they receive the medic 2 healing (10pts)and normal healing (10pts= 20pts total) when attacking or just their normal healing (10pts)

Medic and march stack, and are wonderful. Even better is if you manage to get a Khan (play as Mongolia or as a rare GP gift from a CS) or have a nearby Fountain of Youth, which stacks as well until you hit the healing cap.

2 quick questions:
Which is the more mountainous map setting, 3 mil years or 5 mil?

Can militaristic city states gift naval UU's? If the Dutch aren't in-game, is there a chance to get Sea beggars for example? (I am hoping, yes)

3 million is more mountainous and no, militaristic CSs do not give naval (or, for that matter, air) units.
