It will also still be grayed out if it needs a resource that you don't have available.
Right. Once you have the required tech to upgrade, the upgrade buton will appear, but will be greyed out until you are both in your own borders and have enough gold to do the upgrade.
Again, just making sure as english is not my first language. When they saying " x count still required: y" then they saying that this x still needs to be build and y is the number of how many things should be build? Like "Monument count still required: 1 St. Louis" tells me that I still need to build monument in St. Louis but "Barracks count still required: 5" means that I need to build 5 barracks but it doesn't matter in which city I'll build them. Am I getting this right?
Hi all,
Been playing Civ casually since Civ IV. Reading here has made me realise that I need to have a 'vision' of progression when starting. One thing I struggle with is finding the correct number of cities.
I tend to play standard continents maps and typically I expand quite a bit. Then, eventually everyone starts to hate me for my expansion and declares war (currently at war with four nations, one of which is Russia with a sizeable military).
Any advice on how many cities to settle? The AI seemed to ave a lot less than me.
I know it's probably a noobish question but I am just trying to delve a little deeper into Civ.
Thanks in advance folks!
Thanks. The world has made peace with me now. Trailing behind in points though. JUst playing this to its inevitable conclusion before starting again![]()

Labor Day weekend I bought Civ V from GameStop. I assumed that the $12.00 dollar price for the Gold Edition was a Special Sale. When I Purchased it it said Gold Edition DLC, which I downloaded via Gamestop.
I then took the Game Code and applied it to Steam because I wanted to run the game through Steam, but since I'm noticing things that people have with the Gold Edition (Caravansary) I'm wondering if I have the actual Gold Edition or I need to download some additional content:
My Main Menu Screen (Is this the Gold Edition Version): Menu Screen Shot
Also, if this is the Gold Edition shouldn't Horseback Riding indicate Caravansary? I've been wondering why I can't trade (as Caravansary is not listed). I thought it was because I was playing on "Warlord" (easy) and the AI would control my Trade Routs for me, thus it wouldn't appear as a Game Option? Horseback Riding Research Image
If this isn't the Gold Edition or if there is something I need to additionally download, what do I need to do?
*** With a little help in another thread we figured out that the problems I was having was because I didn't have Brave New World. I thought the Gold Edition was the latest edition. Thanks for all your guys patience.
Is it possible to take a screenshot without using internet and/or Steam?
On my laptop I can use the "Print Screen" function and then paste the screen shot to Word.
If I do that, I get a black picture. Pasting in "Paint" gives the same result.
Hi, could anyone please explain to me what bpt means? I know that's abbreviation for breakers per turn, but I have no idea what it means and how to calculate it, and how it indicates you're in a good spot or not throughout the game.
It doesn't have the latest expansion, the Gold Edition does not include BNW. You will need to buy the BNW expansion for the feature(s) you are looking for.
There is some confusion because some stores are offering deals with the Gold Edition and BNW, but if you buy these you get BNW as a separate item.
