Quick Questions and Answers

Nope, it can naturally extend. Have had it happen when strategically placing units around a country for invasion
(I'm talking about real life btw, not sure what you're talking about)

Hi all,

New here. Great forum.

Quick question: if you have a unit next to someone's border, can that player extend his border to the square were your unit is on? as in, will the player naturally extend his border there? i assume you can buy that square, but your city won't naturally acquire it?

Thanks!

Borders only extend up to 5-6 hexes from a city. Unless you use Great Artists' Culture Bombs (Civ V) or Great Generals' Citadels (G+K), you cannot extend your borders far.

:)

this i know, but i'm talking about inside the 5-6 hexes. to make it more specific:

there is an oil field 2 squares away fro a newly found enemy city. If i leave a unit on that oil field, can that enemy still claim that spot via cultural expansion? i know he can use a great artist, but im talking about natural land growth.

EDIT: got the answer. in case others are interested, even if you have a unit next to someone's border, the border can still extend (your unit will simply be moved outside of the border).

also, does anyone know if the effects of buildings carry over? like, if you build a bank which gives a 25% boost to gold, and then your gold production goes up, then i assume the 25% doesn't carry over right? so technically, you want to wait until you have maxed out your coin production before building the bank right? (i.e. to get the most out of the 25%).

The 25% is a per turn thing. So if your city produces 20 base gold per turn, the Bank will produce +5 gold per turn. Building it later gives you no advantage. It'll just mean you don't get the benefit of the +5 per turn you could've been reaping.

Putting it more basically, sooner you build, more gold you get from it.

How long does it normally take for a Mod to be approved? I put my first scenario in a series up, and I am done with the second scenario in the series and I was wanting to see the feedback from the first one first to see if I should make different changes in the second one. Yet it hasn't been approved so far -.-

And, to respond to another question I think the OP was asking, the 25% modifier is not "frozen" at the gpt production level you were running at when you built the bank. As your city's base production of gold changes in the turns after you build the bank, the amount of gold resulting from the bank's 25% modifier changes as well. So, for example, if you shift a citizen to work a 4 gpt luxury tile that you weren't working before (or you shift the whole city to gold focus, or builld the National Treasury in that city, etc.) the 25% modifier will kick in, resulting (in the lux tile example) in 1 extra gpt.

Someone respond to mine please :o

I couldn't play Civ5 in ages due to a bug, now it's running again, but I can't retrace the toolset (Civ5 SDK). On Steam it used to be under Library > Tools, but annoyingly I don't see the whole library tab anymore. Anybody know the new way to the toolset?

I got the answer from an admin. They had the time to answer it, but you guys didn't. Man, your lives must be packed!

In the Diplomacy Screen, go to Diplomatic Overview. This shows what AIs are denouncing eachother, and what AIs are at war, and I think what AIs have Defensive Pacts (pretty rare in my games)

I didn't answer because I didn't know the answer.

The admin answered because they knew the answer.

Do you really think that everyone that reads these posts knows how long it takes for a mod to be approved? You thought you were being ignored, and that made you angry?

Wow.:crazyeye:

I'm sure everyone is on high alert for your next question.

Is there a way for me to demand another civ move their troops from my borders or else they have to declare war, like they'e able to do to me?

I've been a long time reader and try not to post too much.

After spending quite a bit of time tonight searching through the forums I cannot find meanings to all of the terms many of you use. Some examples are:
ICS
Tall/Wide empires

Is there place that these have been or are planning to be listed in one thread?

Thanks for your help.

For a quick answer to Tall/Wide empires.

It means, empires with many cities, but of those many cities, most also have a very large population close to that of a tiny empire focused on population
