Quick Questions and Answers

Tried to upload them but it is giving invalid file, apparently it does not like posting of .xml at all. Might look into the popup file as well, as not even the quests such City State offering 50% bonus influence for investors appears, though it even still shows the right click to dismiss in the notification log window.

Edit: Playing today, with absolutely nothing else changed from last night when I redid the .xml files and somehow everything has been resolved. I'm even seeing growth and tile acquisition again. Perhaps the fix was just delayed for a second game, or perhaps resetting all advisor info last game and starting it up again kick-started it.

Perhaps it takes a restart to completely clear game cache. Anyway, I'm glad the fix worked. Happy civving! :)

Other possibility I hadn't yet tested was the fact that I had loaded a game from when the problem existed before, and it worked after starting up a new game, which might also be what allowed it to take affect.

Actually, IMO they get less frequent as difficulty level rises, since the AI is pretty good about clearing the map of barb camps on higher difficulty levels (the difference is very noticeable on Immortal and downright frightening on Deity).

Frequency of spawn should be the same in any difficulty, but yes with the added troops of the AI they should be cleared out faster.

Game Glitch? Start building a national this or that or Grand Temple. Found a city before it is finished. (Bad move I know but sometimes you forget) Says the whatever you were building is finished, and you cannot ever build it. It is lost to the void, never to be seen again.

That is not my experience. Build or buy the prerequisite building in your new city and restart building the National Wonder in the same city in which you were building it before. Even your sunk hammers are still there.

I have found that a reload is required to salvage the national if this error occurs. This Korean game I was playing tonight had that happen but I saved just before founding the city and once the other city founded, while NC was being built it told me it finished and was no longer in the list, not even greyed out waiting for the new library.

Was thinking about the Dutch gameplay for this thread and suddenly a question arose that I never paid attention to: can you sell the copy of the luxury you got from another civ (specifically, can you re-sell the spices you got from Indonesia)?

Nope, you can only sell resources that are physically in your territory. Moreover, if you have a surplus of strategic resources of your own and from your allied CS, you can only sell your 'share'. I.e. whatever is in your territory minus whatever is used on units/buildings. Doesn't matter how much you have in total. You also can't sell duplicates of luxes from CS.

Just bought G&K and BnW - Still having massive problems with King difficulty regardless of any Xpacks.

But I would ask - Is religion worth worrying about? Esp if you're cities are being converted to an AI religion rather than the one you founded (if any).

Is gold harder to maintain? It feels like it. I'm forced to have less units and wait for the inevitable DoW.

City states have armies now rather than 2-3 units & kind of unfair considering gold. Not a question just an observation.

The AI on King isn't as ridiculous with science which is good, it's more like 30 turns ahead rather than 60 (on average).

Overall the new units are okay, trade routes are okay, I don't really understand religion or the new world council voting thing yet. Espionage is very cool, I really missed that in Civ 5.

I will receive my copy of vanilla Civ V in the mail in the near future.
My friend, however, owns both Gods and Kings and Brave New
World
. Is it still possible for us to play together in multi-player mode
even if I don't own the expansion packs?

Religion is definitely worth thinking about. Some games you will decide it's totally unimportant based on your strategic setup, civ, and who else nabs the juiciest religion elements first. When you get a good faith start though, it can really be a dominant benefit to your civ, so it's worth understanding.

Gold has definitely been rebalanced, both in patches to Vanilla and with the expansions. I don't personally think that it's harder to maintain positive income, but you can't just spam trade posts everywhere like you used to do in Vanilla and expect to maintain mercantile dominance. As for unit upkeep, fewer highly promoted units has ALWAYS been an important tactic in Civ 5. That doesn't really change with the expansions.

Yes, you can disable any of the DLC, including the expansions, when setting up a multi-player game. Personally I find it easiest to have the player with the less expanded game host, but you can do it either way.

Here is a stupid question... Has this ever happened to you? You receive a call to war from 2 other civs, and hit 10 turns to prepare, setup, get ready... 10 turns later you find out the civ you thought you were declaring war against is wrong, thankfully reloading a save from a couple of turns ago and wondering how you got the leader names wrong... Just did this with sweden and rome. Confusing Gustavus and Augustus after a few beers.

Is there a limit on how far you can settle from an existing city? I've noticed that some AI civs have a habit of spamming cities around city-states so it seems that it's OK to stick your borders with theirs.

Main reason I'm asking this is that I once had a game as Portugal where I placed my Settler around 4 tiles away from a CS to grab luxuries, which way farther than what AIs are wont to do, which is like 2 tiles away from the border. When I tried to plant the city, the Found City button is greyed out. What could have been the problem? Unfortunately I no longer have the save file so I can't post screenshots. Do you think there's an issue with how far the Settler is from the actual tile that the city is on?

Another question, though somewhat unrelated: Do you know a mod for BNW that would allow river tiles to connect cities, like how how forests link Iroquois cities? I think it makes sense and would be useful in the early game.

Sorry if my questions are hard to understand, I'm not a native English speaker.

The found city button is greyed out if you are to close to an existing city (4 or less tiles away). Though it may be slightly different in BNW....I play G+K....
