Quick Questions and Answers

As the Iroquois, do I need to build railroads in forests/jungles to get the production bonus and railroad movement bonus, or does the UA make this unnecessary? Also, where does the production bonus show up in the interface?

Thanks for any help.

Iriquois UA only gives roads, not rails, so you'll need to build them for the bonus. The bonus should show up when you mouse over the production total for your city, or in the production breakdown window in the lower left corner when the queue is not displayed.

When a CS requests units, part of the initial dialog box text describes gifting the units in secret. What is the point of that bit? Have you ever had an AI complaint that you were helping a CS they were at war with?

Could someone please explain about when a CS requests units? ... Do you get extra influence for each unit compared to normal?

If a CS has not requested units, then I don’t think donating units gets you influence at all.

So, if you are close, and looking to increase your influence quickly, then moving into the territory is still the best way since influence will be degrading until you get the OK that your unit arrived.

Absolutely, the CS pop-up box mechanic is only good for CS that are not nearby. I am pretty sure I have donated multiple units this way, but that might have all have been on the same turn. It is rare for me to have spare units.

Hi.
last time I won with Morocco in offline mode. This has not been recorded in my achievements. I thought it would when I went online but it doesn't. Not a big deal if I lose that one, but still, is there any chance that I can somehow reflect it in my achievements?

Sorry. You have to be online with Steam at the time the achievement is accomplished.

Thanks for that. Makes me wonder if I have made a mistake starting to build rails at all as about half my 'roads' were free of maintenance - the cost of upgrading to rails is going to be much higher than usual.

Maybe this is something different between games as I've never seen the 'in secret' part and I'm almost sure I have had small amounts of influence (maybe just 2) without the request - I'm playing vanilla at the moment. Also I seem to remember reading somewhere that it only worked for the first few units.

As it excuses my lazy behavior, I am actually somewhat relieved to read this! I cannot help myself from enjoying those effectively random pop-ups, even as I find Steam quite annoying and not worth the cost. While online, could Archerinho get the achievement by loading the saved game from the turn just before the win?

Yes,...YOU DO! It might be different amount for different levels/time but you always do!! I am playing Marathon/King and you get 5 influence.

I do this all the time because sometimes you'll complete a quest that gives you the perfect amount of influence to reach Ally 60/60. If it is a Mercantile CS that gives Jewelry, etc. the other CS won't see this as achieving the resource because when the next turn processes you'll degrade to 59/60. Simple solution...Gift a unit, and get it a few points above so you'll satisfy your quest.

When Venice uses a "Merchant of Venice", and puppets a CS...How does it effect the Diplomatic Victory vote...??? Does he get any influence on the vote because he now controls that CS...???

Standard/Immortal is all of two points for a GDR! But I could see this being helpful, as you describe. Also, the dialog box gifting option is available without the CS request.

I take the same amount of time for a late medieval turn in V on a small map as I do for a late modern era turn in IV on a large map (with K-mod). I think this to be rather ridiculous, because IV has (lategame) around 150-200 units per player. V has much fewer.

Just won my first game of Civ 5 (BNW) Prince with Korea via science. Got the victory condition achievement and the map size achievement but not Korea or Prince? What gives, why didn't those tick off...

Edit: NVM Achievement list just made it hard to find where it was.

Is there a way to see the order you researched technologies/chose social policies etc from a save file? I'd like to revisit some previous saves to get an idea of the (build) order I did and where I can improve for next time.

Is not being able to build Observatories really bad when playing as Korea? Stuck in a continent with Shaka and Dido and just have 2 cities. Being Korea, it would probably take longer to be able to move to a different continent.

How do you control the AI's difficulty in multiplayer?

I was experimenting with this, and hosted a game myself, I set "myself" to Deity and based on the AI's scores, it seems like all of them were on Deity.

So what happens if me and a friend both set our difficulties to deity, will all the AI be deity?

Better yet, what would happen if I set my difficulty to King, and my friend set his to deity. How does this affect the game?

Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to CIV5, playing vanilla. Currently I have 6 sources of Iron, but only 5 Swordsmen. I'm not currently building any, but I am showing no sources of Iron are available. My question is, is there a way to see what units are using a given resource?
