Quick Questions / Quick Answers

Not strictly true. Now you need some raw culture if you want your writer to give more culture with his treatise, and you need some raw tourism if you want your musician to perform better. Whether to use your artist for golden ages or for more culture/tourism is up to you.
What if I don't care about a culture victory though? I still need to create great works?

I'd say you don't need them. But you will have to agree with ideology that others will choose (unless you have A LOT of culture and/or happiness). Playing scientific or diplomatic victory i usually end with ~50 tourism

Keep in mind that they create culture as well as tourism, and the theming bonuses on many buildings provide essential yields like science or additional culture. Culture is quite useful.

If you dont go for cultural victory, using GP for great work is not quite good idea.
And my general rule is, above turn 200(maybe 150??), never use your GP for great work or tile improvement.

And btw, what tourism extra benefit from what i know:
1.extra science for trade route with civ which your tourism is popular( but it is too small to notice for me)
2.once ideology come into play, tourism will have huge impact on happiness and ideological pressure. Ideology adopted by popular civ will generate more pressure and create unhappiness in cities with different ideology. If you are the less popular one, you either have to cope with the huge happiness penalty, or change ideology , or see your city flop to other civ.

What map do you guys think best suits this mod? I keep finding problems with the ones I use.

Default continents is too crowded. Tectonic is just insane as it generates a lot of flat tiles and snow, sometimes even just a few tiny islands with a colossal ocean. Planet simulator generates too much desert.

I cannot find a good map that I'm happy with. Please help (not sure if this is the best thread for this, sorry)

I think simple Pangea (not pangea+) is the most balanced. I also really like to play Archipelago, its fun, but much less balanced (e.g. Polynesia becomes too strong on Archipelago). I do not like continents-like maps cause 1 player can be born on a good island and develop undisturbed, while the other one is born between Aztec and Atilla. Pangea or Archipelago or something like this equals starting positions. Also thats why i play without ruins and events

Every map has its charm. Even difficult terrain can make it more interesting. Crowded and pangea make fights more common. Mountainous is really interesting for tactical reasons. Islands changes many things, since villages don't get trade routes on them. I prefer continents, where I need a little army and navy. Communitas layouts are very interesting, but I find too many resources there. Perfect Planet and Tectonic are something in between. If you find too many deserts for your taste, tweak the map settings for more rain.

Yeah, that should help, no?

Also, are deserts such a problem? Unless you spawn in a huge patch of a flat resourceless desert, which, I think, is very rare, I don't see a problem. They actually can create natural borders and buffers between civs.

I like Tectonic (there are 2 of similar names and 1 is clearly superior, the other one is called Tectonics I think - I hope I am not mixing them up here) the most, but I am getting some graphic glitches lately, so I returned to the Planet Simulator and I am not seeing excessive desert (I think I keep most settings on default) - have you tried enough? What I don't like about it too much is those pesky 1-tile islands in the middle of nowhere, but I can live with that.

Hey! Anyone know how to make tectonic map script and communitas map to work in multiplayer? Adding them to modpack doesn't work...

For Communitas, pregenerate the map, save the map in the menu after it is made, and then share it with all players (place in your maps folder in your documents/my games/civ 5 folder.

1. How do you play multiplayer with mods? When I go into mods, activate them (pressing NEXT), I only have the options Set up and Load game.

2. What the fudge is up with Defensive Pacts in CP? I made common use of those in vanilla but they seem impossible to create in CP, no matter the Civ, the size of my army, or the state of my diplomatic relations.

1. You have to create a modpack via multiplayer mods workaround tool - search it in mods section of civ5 steam community. there is a detailed instruction.
2. They are possible, but you have to have declaration of friendship and very good relationship and good army. Hey, nobody wants to defend you from these lovely aztecs

1. How many ruins should I be expecting to find/collect on an Emperor/Immortal game with Standard/Huge map settings? (On average, I guess? So I know if I'm not exploring as effectively as I could be)

2. I saw some people talk about removing the scout from the bonuses that the AI gets on higher difficulties, how do I do this?

if you use the really advanced setup mod, I believe you can remove starting units for the AI

I usually just buy a scout and then I find about 4 ruins around my city on emperor. Even more if I'm isolated

Is it really bad if I don't found a religion? Everyone else got one before me. I am really missing Thrift...

1. I guess from 1 to 3 depending on map type and your starting position and how many AIs do you have. And some luck ofcourse. Rarely 0 or more than 3.
2. My advive is try to play without ruins instead, i think this makes game much more balanced

i played without religion couple of time, its not that bad, especially if you manage to get some religion that has good follower beliefs
