I should have gotten it as I've got one of the those books by my computer! I'm trying very hard to find the others as I only have the first 2.

BUY THEM! They're cheap and George R. R. Martin is a genius. Paper back is like 6 bucks at B&N... or was until it started getting popular. The man takes forever to pump out a book, and when he does, sales of ALL of them surges for a while.

hrrrr... I just know three guys : Cthulu, Link and Tweedledee... sorry :D

For all I know, Gazundheit is Deustch for Dragonlance. But I thought german composite nouns were, like, 50+ letters long.

Gesundheit is german for "bless you" or whatever your say in english after someone sneezes. Apparently they use the german word in America too.
The german word for dragonlance would be Drachenlanze.

And I knew only 9 of them. But at least I knew Tyrion, now that's a great character (I wonder who will kill him and when :D) But it would probably have been better to add Tywin Lannister instead, he's not even half as cool as Tyrion but he's much more like a great leader. Oh the red wedding...

And if Davos Seaworth got really killed i'm going to burn some books  I'm still hoping that they just killed someone else to cheat Ceresei. And speaking of her, add her at the bottom of the list :D

Only knew 10 myself.

I've got to jump on the bandwagon in recommending the Song of Fire and Ice series and i agree that Tywinn is an even better leader than Tyrion although Tyrion is much, much cooler. The only series i loved more is the Black Company series by Glen Cook. Croaker would have been a good addition to the list.

I knew only six. Monty Python granted me 2. I'm more into sci-fi.

Sir Robin song could be played if a player looses their game.

I think perpentach would love Ceresei. She should be low/middle. But honestly, if were going to have a character from that series be represented, the best leader of all of them is prolly Deanerys. I mean, slave-freer, city sacker, dragon queen, and rightful queen of westeros? Its hard to beat her for legitimacy and coolness.

Red wedding made me throw the book, one of many times.

Tyrion will last forever, no ones gonna kill him, if so, ill throw the book again.

And the Debate over Davos' death reigns on, i'm undecided as to whether or not the book should be thrown, as its ambigous to his outcomes.

I got 12 but after reading the spoilers I was aware of a couple others and can't believe I didn't recognize Tim the Enchanter! Now that's funny...

It's also interesting to see this list and realize that I have NEVER finished a game of FFH. I'm usually beating up on the AI and/or trying out new paths/stategies and never make it past around turn 300 or so.

I've never finsihed a game either. How does one win outside of conquest? I just usally "consider myself to have won" after acheiving what i know is dominance.

I even took the time to spread runes to every single city in the game, going for the elusive "religious victory" ive heard a little about. I did so successfully, but the game just kept on plugin away. I said i won and quit.

Either 18 or 19

Spoiler :

Cthulu- Great old one, HP Lovecraft
Asriel- several with several different spellings that I can recal: a fallen angel , a batman character, Gargomel's cat. Somehow I think that none of these are this one
Belgarath: The sorcerer, the eternal man, from the Belgariad and Mallorean, by David Edings
Rand Al'Thor: Dragon Reborn, from the Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan
Rastlen Majere: Caramon's brother. Mage from Dragonlance and all around poopie head. Also not in any way shape or form a leader. Bad mofo, sure, but not a leader.
AslanChrist analog from Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis
Tyrion Lannister The Imp, from Song of Ice and Fire series, by George R.R. Martin
Cloud from FF7, big hair, bigger sword
Elricthe greatest bad a$$ to ever stalk the pages of a book. At least whil he had his sword with him. Michael Moorcock
Fin MacCoolCeltic (welsh?) folk hero, ate salmon of knowlege and became Tallisan the bard (?)
Pug From Raymond Feist's universe, Magician of unmatched power
Tim the Enchanter Monty Python's Holy Grail
Tom Bobadil A stone that gathers moss... Character in middle earth but not _of_ middle earth. IIRC he was a Maia, not certain. The Ring had no effect on him
Minsc"Go for the eyes, boo!" Baldur's Gate
LinkLegend of Zelda
Roderick Usher... fall of the house of Usher by Poe? Only one I can think of
Guybruch ThreepwoodCharacter from the Monkey Island games, very funny
Sir Robin Monty Python's Holy Grail
Tweedledee Alice in Wonderland

Edit: forgot Ozma of Oz, ran Oz before the Wizard showed up I think

Edit: looks like 18
Edit pt.2: looks like 19 because I cannot count

I knew only 6...
Spoiler :
But speaking of Cloud, I like that Grigori cities are named after FF7 cities.
Books that you speak of, how are they like when compared to Lord of the Rings, for example? I'm eally interested in it.

Yeah, I went back and read everyone else's answers and I never read the book that he was drawn from.

Incidently Croaker and Lady should be high (real high) on this list. If you have not read the Black Company books by Cook then go out and get them. Get them now. Kael I am looking at you here, I think you will _love_ these books.

Hear, hear!

P.S.: I got 9-1/2 of them (only counted Lannister as .5 as I knew what book it came from but I not having read the book I couldn't say exactly who it was).

On A song of Ice and Fire... (Which has Tyrion in it)

Read this. THis is a gritty book. It takes your assumptions about fantasy and chucks them out the nearest window.

Good guys aren't always good, bad guys aren't always bad, you learn to root for the a**hole. You pity the pretty, you yearn for blood and vengence more than honor or nobility, and lastly but not least, he (the writer) kills the characters you love with wonton disregard to your feelings. It's great.

For Informational purposes. ASoI&F (A song of Ice and Fire) is:
*A setting of Low Magic (Magic is VERY rare, VERY powerful, and VERY mysterious)
*A Setting resembling Medival Europe's Dark Ages (not golden shinining renesiance)
*Creates a very personlized feeling, the events of the world affect the characters more than vica versa - though it IS very dynamic.
*Currently 4 books in length of the series, scheduled (assumed) to be 7 total upon completion.
*Story Revolves around multiple characters at very different places at any given "moment" though time is not calculated normally. Chapters are not always done chronologically, and there are no chapter titles, each chapter title is a Name, that Name is the current character whos experiances you partake in - overlaping happens alot.
*You WILL throw the book across the room at one point if you read it.
*It will make you angry.
*It will make you sad.
*It will make you slaver for more.

I second this in the most powerful way anything can be seconded. Read A Song of Ice and Fire, now!

I knew most people on the list, though some only by reputation.

Daenerys was actually the ASoIaF character I first suggested for the list, but we ended up deciding on Tyrion. There's no doubt they're both great leaders in their own right.

I understand. Daenery's is the superior leader, but prolly not the superior politician. Poor Tyrion.

"And then she woke up blind." :twitch:
