[R&F] R&F Cultural Styles Preview in Asset Editor?

Mapuche, Scotland, Cree, Georgia, Zulu, Netherlands, Mongolia, Korea. Not what I would have predicted at all but if that's what we get, I quite like it. Hopefully some of the missing big hitters will be released as DLC.

I am sure there will be an Incan/Mayan and a Byzantine/Ottoman DLC. They would definitely sell well.

I don't see the posted images as confirming Zulu. Which monument and palace are the Zulu ones? Or are we inferring that if the Scots are in the Zulus will be in due to the leak on the Chinese forum?

If you take a look at and compare major cities all over the world, there does seem to be slight differences in the modern architecture style. But perhaps it's too subtle for many to notice.

I liked Civ5 got this right and while all modern cities were skyscrappers, there were specific versionings per culture (even matching some RL representative buildings). Maybe not all skyscrappers should look different, but if you trow in some Taipei 101 in Asian cites, Petronas Towers in Indonesian cities, Burj Al Arab in Middle east, La Defense or Gherkin tower for Europe, Empire State or Chrisler for America, etc it will give some spice.

Why? Did I miss something?
If the leak is real than it is Zulu and Scotland with that castle.
Latauro the leader for the Mapuche is probably the mystery leader with the headband seen up close in the video.

You have my sympathies if Scotland is eventually revealed as being a Braveheart, kilt and bagpipe caricature. Early modern Scotland was one of the leading lights of the Enlightenment, but I doubt that will make the cut.

Indeed. I'm happy The Netherlands got only 2 (windmills and tulips) stereotypes, and Firaxis didn't go for the weed and hookers. Still, I wish The Netherlands were even more focussed on either economy or, better yet, culture through painting (considering Vermeer, Bosch, Van Gogh, Van Rijn, Mondriaan, etc. - my apologies to the Dutch people if I spelled some names wrong :S).

It is indeed strange that Kongo is better at producing great painters than the Netherlands.

It seems to be taken from the spreadsheet image with regional art names - one of which is 'South African'.

Incidentally, Scotland is taken from the same source. The civ will presumably be the Celts as usual - none of the other art styles aside from Indonesian (Mughal, Mediterranean, North African, South African, East Asian) match the name of any specific civ, so a 'Scottish' art style doesn't imply a Scotland civ.

Well, China does get a boost for every eureka, so it's not like they're bad at science...

They are not bad at science but I think overall, Korea is stronger than China as depicted in the game. This is flat out wrong and historically inaccurate. This inaccuracy has been prevalent in the Civ series ever since it was introduced.

Koreans were great innovators but not great inventors.

Anyway, this is going off topic so I’ll stop at that. :)

What's this I hear about Scotland? I would be pleasantly surprised if it will be Scotland. If William Wallace is the leader... better call in Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

But guys... what if this is just a red herring?

I love that @bite went to sleep thinking he had seen the big reveal of the day.

No if you read the other thread bite went to sleep clearly implying that there would be a big new leak before I woke up.

You have to get up earlier in the morning to flummox the man that called Tamar a month before via Pokemon.

:)

And yet accurate. Modern architecture just doesn't have the distinctiveness that architecture used to, especially at the macro level. :( But yeah, I always hate hitting the Industrial Era and seeing my beautiful, unique cities disappear.

Tbh Civ V pulled off differing skyscrapers for various culture groups with some grace.

I'm sad that we didn't get a separate Latin American palace though

Ahhhh....Tropico.
It’d be great to play as El Presidente in a banana republic in Civ. Just need some tobacco for some big cigars and a lot of bananas plus the right government unlocked.
