Random Deity Troublemaking

Early - I expected to lose at any moment. But it didn't happen. Try a careful steal, and it fails.

Mid - Still alive, UN vote called. We abstain, and the other four split their votes so neither Sumeria nor Russia can get the 3-2 majority. Going to start settling aggressively.

Late - Lutetia flips. We claim a source of aluminum with the founding of Tarentum. Might piss off the Russians, but maybe not. Also had to buy Russians back into war with Sumeria for 23gpt. Manage to steal Space Flight, and then trade it plus some gold for Computers. Unfortunately, we're broke, and don't have anything on which we can earn interest. Oh well. I should have had a palace prebuild going, although I guess it doesn't matter all that much.

After - Russia has built 7 out of 10, can't start any of the other 3 I think. I forgot to write them down. Sorry about that. Anyway, there are still 3 techs, Nuclear Power, The Laser, and Robotics between the Russians and being able to finish up the tech tree. Let's hope my not having a prebuild doesn't end up costing us.
 
I have it. I'm in feast mode on SG's so this may take the full 48 hours.
 
Pre-flight – 1600 AD – Switch Antium, Veii, and Pisae to pre-builds of some sort for the spaceship.

Early - Found Aurelianorum in the shadow of the volcanos. A stack of ten Sumerian units land next to Tarentum and the Mongols throw everything they have at it including Keshiks and finally destroy it. Included in the stack were some MA’s. I execute an immediate steal from the Sumerians and swipe Superconductor.

Middle – We build Apollo and the Docking Bay. Cathy declares war on the Mongols and quickly takes Brundesium from them.

Late – Execute another immediate steal and take satellites. The Russians build the internet. Portugal and Sumeria sign an MA against Russia. Complete the SS Cockpit.


After Action – We have six more techs to get to meet our scientific requirements. In order to win, we will have to make peace with Sumeria and buy uranium. Russia has the same problem. Cathy can’t build the fuel cells or the statis chamber without it. That is probably the reason for the Mongolian war. We have six more turns left on our MA with Russia. We need to sign one more MA with Russia against Sumeria. By then we will have all our required techs. Hopefully we will have the eight non-uranium components built with two pre-builds to complete the fuel cells and statis chamber.

oooh, this is so exciting! In my turns Sumeria did not build a single spaceship part, so I figure that they must be mobilized. If Cathy does not have uranium... :lol:

I completely agree with Suir Bugsy, we must keep Russia and Sumeria at war...as long as Sumeria is at war they will continue mobilized, and as long as we can keep Cathy away from uranium Russia cannot launch. If we time the prebuilds right, we can make peace with Sumeria, buy uranium for whatever it costs, switch the prebuilds and launch one of the unlikeliest spaeships ever... aargh! Mustn't get ahead of myself! I'm very excited. Go Microbe!

{PS looks like Sir Bugsy had some outstanding stealing luck, with two immediate successes, partly makes up for some of the careful/safe failed attempts I had).

The RNG is wacky sometimes. We will have more failures and more successes. Hopefully the flips will end soon. We may want to be on the watch for openings for cities on the Mongol front.
 
Preturn: I plant a spy on Mongols as we need to know where it goes and it succeeds. It's built one part and another one in progress.

I get Ecology+2353g+WM+Amphibious War+oil+75gpt from Mongols by Satellites+Superconductor.

I cancel MA with Mongols and get back 21gpt. Sumeria and Russia are up Synthetic Fibers.

We fail to immediately steal from Sumeria. :(

IBT Portugal and Mongols make peace. Mongols build second part.

(1)1655AD: There is some deal that we pay 25gpt to Russia for nothing so I cancel it.

IBT Mongols build third part.

(2)1660AD: Miniaturization shows up. Another SS completed which I forgot to mention.

(3)1665AD: We try another immediate steal and it succeeds. We take Synthetic Fibers instead of Miniaturization as we can build another part.

Russia took another city from Mongols. TOW is just not up to the job when facing MAs.

I renew lux deal with Russia and get 174g.

IBT SS Engine completed. Sumeria adds SS Docking.

(4)1670AD: nothing happens.

IBT Portugal requests peace. Although I see no reason for a war, I am not sure if we still have war happiness, so I decline. We build SS Storage/Supply and SS Thursters.

(5)1680AD: I make peace with Sumeria and get 2510g by paying 145gpt.

I buy Uranium by dyes+124gpt - yes, it's that expensive. Also buy Rubber for 231gpt - more expensive. We have 5590g so it's enough for 3 immediate steals and there are only 1 tech to steal..hope we'll fail?

Immediate switch to SS Exterior Casing and SS Fuel Cells.

I then try an immediate steal and it succeeds! We take Miniaturization, but we are still in peace. :( Oh well, hope Sumeria comes up with new techs soon.

And I start Modern Armor everywhere.

I also get coal by 36gpt. We need to finish the railroad..

We are only making +43gpt now. :cry:

IBT Mongols don't want RoP so I pass. Sumeria builds SS Thrusters and SS Life Support System.

(6)1685AD: disband outdated units such as legions or MDI.

IBT build SS Fuel Cells. So does Sumeria.

(7)1690AD: I sell Synthetic Fibers to Mongols for incense+WM+524g. I don't think it is going to be a threat.

(8)1695AD: Sumeria has Nuclear Power. I try an immediate steal and it succeeds again! :mad:

(9)1700AD: Russia gets Laser.

Somehow one turn is lost so I stop here.

We have two more techs to go, and Sumeria is 4/4. Russia has no progress. Mongol is still two techs behind us and has no rubber.

We have 2600g with +75gpt. Sumeria might be doing 4-turn research, so let's just hope it does the right thing.

I think we should only do immediate steals. We just barely have enough gold for two immediate steals. The worst is that we fail our steal but get uncaught, that would mean we'd have to wait for our deals to run out before we can gather enough money again, which almost means loss. So I think if there is any chance, let Sumeria declare on us (e.g., fail steal, demand leave, refuse tribute demand, etc). Then we can steal two techs, and make peace again with it to finish up our last part. So if we go to war again, no more MA. The next 10 turns will be very interesting. If we go to war, we need to be able to make peace with Sumeria before it completes its parts.

Remember:
Laser: SS Planetary Party Lounge: cost 160, only requires Aluminum.
Robotics: SS Statis Chamber: cost 320, requires Aluminum+Uranium.

No more rubber needed.

We are currently building SS Exterior Casing. Do not switch it.

I also put lots of outdated units in Turentum to avoid flips. We can't lose Aluminum.

EDIT: I just read what Bugsy said about signing one more MA before making peace..and I agree that is a better strategy (although MA is probably not needed). I might have done something stupid. :( Sorry. Now indeed Sumeria is building parts crazily. I was thinking in a different way and somehow I thought you guys were talking about Russia in mobolization, not Sumeria. We can still win this way, but if the team desires I can also replay my turns.
 
Nope, replaying turns is never an option as far as I'm concerned...there's not much difference between replaying turns and reloading, IMO.

I think your turns have worked out fine, and I think it is amazing we are even close to a victory given the butt-whupping that has humbled us for most of this game. Win or lose, we're doing it the honest way and the hard way :).

The only think I do not understand is the immediate steals to force war with Sumeria...by my understanding, isn't Sumeria providing us uranium? If so, how can we launch if we are at war with them? We need their uranium to build the last part, don't we? Is there an alternative uranium supply, or can we possibly poach one?

We need uranium for the Statis Chamber. If Russia makes peace, we're toast. Cathy just has two parts to build and needs uranium for both. We just need to out race Sumeria and hope Russia doesn't sign a treaty. Sumeria is the only place to get extra uranium.
 
I would go to war with Sumeria and sign peace again when it wants to talk with us (probably in a 10-ish turns), as we might not have enough money to steal two techs.

But it might also work out if we stay in peace, but the risk is higher (it takes longer to get money and might be too late).

Bugsy's strategy is the safest.

we only make 75 gpt, all from a mongol payment, for another 10 turns. see no way to get the tech in time without declaring on sumeria. immediate steal costs 1900g, we have 2600. i guess best chances are waiting until they discover laser and try immediate steal (won't be able to do anything else) and hope for war declaration. maybe we will be able to steal the necessary techs and pay for peace and uranium afterwards.

Your plan sounds good, but the game might surprise you sooner. :)

I played it till the end but I won't tell any spoiler information. :)

One hint though. If we are at war with Sumeria, there is still a way to know if they've got any tech to steal. Just look at the space race info screen. If it says Sumeria is building/has built 9 parts, it's got Laser. If that's 10, it has got Rotobics as well. This way we can know whether to steal even if Sumeria wouldn't talk with us.

We could have switched it to wealth. :) Solar plant is probably the best prebuild improvement for us, other than palace. Let's keep multiple prebuilds at different timing going in case Robotics comes in at any time, but watch out so we won't actually finish them (especially the palace).
 
You may have to hire a lot of tax collectors to keep it from being built.
 
ooh, I'm so excited! Will be playing in a few hours. Let me get this straight though? We only need one part which comes with robotics, and we need uranium to build it?

best chances for uranium is peace with sumer. it's 9 turns since the war started, but still no talk.
one is mongolia, but i doubt the russians will leave it to us. may be a good idea to join the fight against mongolia at the right time :)
i also tought about building a city next to one of sumers uraniums, but i doubt we could hold it even for one turn.
