It's been 20 years since my cat, Lightning, died. She was 17.5, the longest-lived of all the cats I've had, and the middle generation of a 3-generation cat family I had.

It has been brought to my attention that I've been hanging out with you dorks for 10 years.

It could have used a few more flags.
Incorrect... a bald eagle riding a motorcycle needs no flags whatsoever... the image speaks for itself clearly as to what nation it represents. The flags are completely superfluous, redundant and unnecessary for an image/sculpture/monument such as this.

People talk, in emotional terms, about the "light going out."

I do not think I get that. I have been trying to come up with a similar metaphor that makes sense, but I am struggling.

It is not that the light is any less bright. If anything, it is blinding. It hurts. But it gets... crisp. clear. thin? It lacks substance, meaning. It still can blind you like a chemical burn... or the sun... but it does not hold anything of value.

I am trying to come up with a metaphor. But I have not come up with a good one for "nothing the sun shines on matters."

@Gori the Grey ?

"Uprooting", as in yanking a plant out of the ground roots and all to be discarded.

That is a good one. It's close. But that kills the subject. It's the best way to weed. I wouldn't be around to b**** if that was done.

I still hate every time I wake up.

Edit: it's better the more I think about it, but the lethality is still tripping me up

Edit edit: @Birdjaguar actually - any pulled lambsquarter spends a significant portion of its existence drying and dying. That is a good metaphor as requested. Thank you. I wouldn't mind more to work with, if anyone else wants to take a swing, too.

Whenever I'm chatting w someone w tats I usually ask them about them.

Was talking to a dude at the gym who wanted a spot. I noticed he had long text on his arm so I inquired

He said it was Psalm 91

Psalm 91
New International Version
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

I can see how believing in that sort of thing would help one feel they have a solid foundation to pursue their goals, like the wind is at their backs.

Made me think of @Farm Boy & Gori (tags not working, I'm too old for Instagram I guess)

And also of the Einstein quote (most important question is whether the universe is friendly or hostile)

It certainly seems neutral to me. With the whole evolution of creatures by ripping each other up and eating them alive, death by draught, suffocation, being a mother bird watching your babies devoured, death itself, whatever got us this far (evolution most likely but if you think a divine DJ started the record spinning so be it) is inferior in benevolence to what humans are ideally capable of.

But I'm envious in a way of those who believe they are loved by some eternal force beyond space and time.

I always liked Psalm 91 when growing up. A friend of mine used to say that Psalm 23 was his favourite.

Thank you. I wouldn't mind more to work with, if anyone else wants to take a swing, too.
Do "unmoored" or "adrift" come anywhere close?

Reminds me of Death's speech at the end of Hogfather, more or less the "moral" of the story and just an all around great set of quote(s).

I like the quote that is the top comment also

"You are the mechanism by which the universe cares. If you choose not to care, it's an uncaring world." - Brennan Lee Mulligan

They have part of the feel right. I like that the light would hit both from from above, and reflecting up from the water.

But adrift suggests there is someplace you should be, somewhere to be found? Somewhere it could be different.

Edit: It did make me think of the water planet from interstellar:

There's always the faded "insubstantial pageant" phrase, with no racks left behind :)
Some refer to death as a step, and others as the end. At any rate, unless we assume a mythology where everyone already exists and potentially will live, it can be said that those who even got to live have to be a very tiny minority of the overall pool.

^I believe in the Tres conspiracy. They are hiding somewhere below the Eiffel Tower, waiting to activate it as a beacon to unearth the Knights Templar treasure.

the Templier treasury is in Istanbul , right under the trajectoty of the yet undug canal . Like ı am offended , said it years ago .

I love the Tartarian community. They'll dig up some obscure map drawn by some rando on acid and accept it as the truth and weave an elaborate conspiracy theory to explain why no-one else buys it
I'm sure Berzerker is on it!
