Randomly Conquering Monarch 6CC

[0] 1930 AD:

[1] 1931 AD:
Let some units heal one turn.

[2] 1932 AD:
Win a tank battle with marginal odds. :) Oh, Mao has tanks. :(

[3] 1933 AD:
Kaifeng burns to the ground. Costs both cannons to do it though. Peter declares on Asoka. :)

[4] 1934 AD:
Screw this. Revolt to police state. Nationhood is not buying us much. Tech wont win this game, and we cant draft because of unhappiness.

[5] 1935 AD:
Make a silk/wheat deal with Peter.

[6] 1936 AD:
Asoka pillages with his tank no more. His gunship is giving me fits though.

[7] 1937 AD:
The attack on Macau goes badly. Lose infantry and arty trying to take it. Circassian burns down.

[8] 1938 AD:
Nothing i can do about Asoka's gunships. We need rockets badly. Took one out with an infantry.

[9] 1939 AD: Lose another tank to super machine gun in Macau (80% odds of winning). Take out the remaining gunship.

[10] 1940 AD:
Pentagon completes. Will revolt to a less expensive civ, since we dont need theocracy anymore.

Lost quite a few units taking those two cities. The stack used to take out Circassian should do in Macau. Two transports are sleeping in Lyons. Please let the bank complete in Paris, that's 40 GPT we are losing. Hate to leave someone in anarchy, but them's the breaks. Reconnect the spices and horses the gunships pillaged. My apologies for the lack of pix.

Rat mentioned in another thread that Greebley wasn't around, and since he hasn't posted I guess he isn't. :)

Spinoza, will you be able to play?

Spinoza hasn't posted and he is awol in another SG so we will skip him for now. You're up Greebley so play whenever you have the time to get at it.

Spinoza - Check in if you are still in this game for next round.

Well I finally got a chance to play. Apologies for the delay.

I took out the Chinese city on our own island and Asoka's city on Peter's island.

I then made peace with both. I felt we needed to raise science. As mentioned, Gunships are a problem.

We have a large fleet near NewYork with units. I would swing it around to join the fleet in Lyons. We can then line up an attack on Asoka.

I am going for flight next. It is needed for Gunships. We also need rocketry for them. Unfortunately, that is many turns away.

I would build more Marines and Artillery when the current builds finish. I built tanks but they are weak vs the gunships.

I chose the wrong civic. Our unhappiness is terrible even without WW. I would switch to representation and get the +3 happiness in the big cities. I would prefer to keep the Free Speech as long as we are trying to research. We have a lot of towns so +2 gold per town really helps. Unfortunately, we can't switch for 4 more turns.

I just noticed our horses were pillaged and not repaired. It must have happened on a previous turn. I sent 2 workers to fix.

100 turns left. If we can't get a conquest win, I would like to get a histographic win. That means stopping the AI from launching (with Asoka the biggest threat).

(1) 1951 - Shuffling units around.

(2) 1952 - Asoka shows up with a settler down south.

(4) 1954 - Switch to representation

(8) 1958 - Declare war on Asoka and make the landing of a lifetime...

(9) 1959 - Burn Bombay to the ground easily.

(10) 1960 - AI weed...

Peter has started to build spaceship parts. After Asoka's mainland is wiped out he should be our next target. Bhopal and Lahore should be razed next turn easily. Karachi is more of a toss up. If our army doesn't get wrecked with collateral damage we should be able to take the city. If it does then our army may need to retreat on the boats and move north to a less guarded city.

Edit: If you didn't notice the settler Asoka had in his transport was used to build Bhobal.

Good work knupp. You give me hope that we still could win. I think this will easily be the closest finish in Civ4 to date for me whether we win or lose. I am glad you both were willing to keep this game alive - it still has the potential of an exciting finish.

[0] 1960 AD WW is killing our cities. They are starving. Switch to police state. Will build Mt Rushmore. Orleans goes from 3 angry to 1. In other cities without jails, one angry is back working. Mil builds go from an average of 8-10 turns to 3-4.

[1] 1961 AD Started Mt Rushmore is our least productive city, Tours. Raze Lahore. Pillage town near Karachi.

[2] 1962 AD Outgunned and without gunships, Karachi is a deathtrap. Start pillaging. Gets us money and sets Asoka back.

[3] 1963 AD Lost tank @ Karachi and the one that sacked Lahore. Still have a good pillaging crew with healing cav.

[4] 1964 AD Burn up one of scientists on an academy in NY, and another in Rheims since they wont get us rocketry. I have a bad feeling Asoka is gonna nuke us when he gets satellites.

[5] 1965 AD The Karachi force is dying. Gonna try to take out his oil. This is the most pitiful of economies. We have, i think, two banks, and i built one of them. Regroup for a push on the oil. What is so great about that spot? Peter settles there now that Bhopal is no more.

[6] 1966 AD Get the oil tile, but cant pillage. GRRRR. Units out of moves. I move the naval stack and get intercepted by an Indian battleship. Lose a destroyer and an empty transport, but take it out. I thought about reloading the transports and moving north but Asoka's gunships are everywhere.

[7] 1967 AD Lose the medic cav taking out Asoka's oil.

[8] 1968 AD Send another pillager stack to Asoka. He has offshore oil on an island city Hyderabad.

[9] 1969 AD To take out Hyderabad's oil, I started a battleship in NY.

[10] 1970 AD Well, i burned down two of Asoka's cities, and possibly interrupted his oil supply. Gunships, fighters, bombers, and SAM infantry make the lifetime of our forces anywhere on his island short. I have a build plan for Rheims, try to stick to it. If at all possible, try to let Mt Rushmore finish--it will do us a world of good. And jails, put those peace-loving hippy protesters away.

I was planning on playing tonight, but I am tired. Since Knupp who is up next isn't back to the 15th, I think I will wait to play this and get some rest. I would probably play badly anyway - I make more mistakes when I am tired. Given that we only have 80 turns left mistakes are not so good.

Well I played but am not at all sure I did the right thing. I made peace for 10 turns because I felt we couldn't do anything with our existing stack. it was just too small and was being bombed.

I got to Robotics more quickly and started Refridgeration for the extra ship movement and the extra health to get our cities a little bit bigger.

I also went for jails in some of our cities.

I would still declare war vs Asoka again - I am thinking after Mt. Rushmore completes in 4 turns.

I keep feeling we may be able to win this if we can only figure out the right way to play it. We have so few units though, its a bit depressing - our number of units seems down rather than up. I guess we lost a lot in our previous attacks. Try to keep units alive where we can though I am not at all sure if it is possible to do so and still advance and advancing is equally important.
