Pre-Turn
ok 2 wars, France peace in 6 turns
techs:
get polytheism from America for HBR and 15g
get maths and 120g from Spain for polytheism
we still have our monopoly on writing :)

we still need to meet our friends, the Arabs

1.1225BC
zzz

2. 1200BC
we have another settler that goes for orange spot

3. 1175BC
Germany is the first to know writing, they are still down HBR and poly
at the moment they still don't know anybody, so we are safe and can wait with trades
however, they are willing to talk and I make peace for maths, in turn they give us all their 244gold :)

IT Germans start SoZ and are rich

4.1150BC
zzz

5. 1125BC
take out northern barb camp for elite promotion :) and 25g
found Warwick in the east, starts temple to get the wheat via border expansion

6. 1100BC
London got a granary via forrest chop that reveals a BG, now for archers
time to make peace with France: we give them HBR for all their 102gold
Spain knows Russia and has maths now
so sell maths to Russia (77g) and India (117g) to avoid AI trading
they are all broke and we have 1358gold now, writing still only known by Germany

7. 1075BC
Spain knows contruction now, but will wait for trading since its a monopoly and no 3-fer available

IT our e-archer gets attacked by barb but survives flawlessly

8.1050BC
take out another barb camp for 25g

IT our new curragh survives barb galley attack

9. 1025BC
we have another settler that goes north to settle
France now has monarchy, wasn't that the government we need
they want writing +maths + 1100g for it
Spain does not want to part with contruction for writing, guess I'll wait a turn

10. 1000BC
trading still too expansive IMHO, maybe we can dicuss whether we should get monarch from France for
2 techs + 925gold, then sell monarchy to Spain for contruction and sell that back to France

we will have 7 cities soon, that means 14 units, London is now building military, Hastings gets a rax next turn and can also start.
We are building one more settler to replace that Indian town. Horses are online next turn, we can swap from archer to horse
next player should be soon ready for war, before we hit the MA and need to make war with Spain.

I'm not really sure about when we are to war with India. Horses came available, so I rather use those than archers.

West Indies founeded.

- There is an Indian warrior/settler trying to get up north, so we have a horse there to block them.
- For war I would wait for some more horses and do a triple strike against Lahore, Karachi, and Kolhapur. Lahore is in a bad position and should be razed. The other 2 kept, but our culture is not that great (terrible really), so flips are possible. Maybe we should just raze everything.
- I don't know if the next person will be ready for war, but certainly after that. I wanted to wait for our second luxury to be connected.

West Indies will surely make the Indians unhappy since its within their 9 tiles, but we will go for war anyway soon.

Still no trades. we could try and buy monarchy and then trade for construction and MM that is available now.
I would settle another town in the north and yes, raze all Indian towns to avoid cultural pressure.

Rules:
we have 7 towns, thus 14 units allowed
France: next war from 76-106 turns
we must declare war on Spain in the MA

We do want as many horses as possible for the war, but we can't wait too long. Horses and archers do a lot better against spears than they would against pikes.

Take your time, Vol; I won't be able to get to it until Sunday evening.

Got it. Will play when convenient. Probably Saturday night, then.

(0|90) 750 BC
We have a ridiculous amount of gold for this point in the game: 1726 gold.

We can now see that there are no rivers on our island. There will be no irrigation until Electricity.

Diplomacy:
Rat07_750BC_Diplomacy.jpg

Forced peace with France until turn 106 (430 BC).
Peace with everyone else.

We're up Writing to all but Germany, who knows no one else.
We're down Monarchy to France, Construction to Spain, and Map Making to Germany.

We lack an embassy with France, so I make one for 50 gold.
Rat07_750BC_French_Embassy.jpg

Yes, Paris has three cows. Hanging Gardens will likely finish in 4 turns, with France having a monopoly on Monarchy.

I think Germany and France will be the powerhouses in this game. They both have nice territory (Germany has size, France has a 3-cow capitol).

Military Inventory:
1 Warrior
5 Archer
1 spearman
3 Horsemen
----------
10 units
8 cities

6 more units allowed.

India situation
No use in guessing what defense India might have, when for a measly 24 gold I can investigate Lahore:
Rat07_750BC_Lahore.jpg

Two regular Spearmen on defense, and building a Settler in 4.

I also investigate nearby Kohlapur and Karachi, for 24 gold each:
Kohlapur: Temple, 1 Regular Spearman on defense, another built in 2.
Karachi: No buildings, 1 Regular Spearman on defense, Settler built in 7.
With such weak defenses, I think the time to strike might be very soon.:hammer:

Culture
Our culture is pitiful:
Rat07_750BC_Culture.jpg

We have no culture except our Palace. Expect flips.

Trades
With all this gold, and three civs having a tech monopoly, its a must:
Writing + 854 gold to Spain for Construction.
Writing + Construction + 518 gold to France for Monarchy.
Construction to Germany for Map Making + 58 gold.
Monarchy to Spain for 1138 gold.
Map Making to France for 553 gold.
End result: Gained three techs and ~350 gold for Writing. Didn't have to give Map Making to Spain or Monarchy to Germany. Not bad.

I choose not to revolt to Monarchy, as I don't think we'll benefit much from it right now, and we need to strike India while its vulnerable.

Its finally time to hit Enter... :crazyeye:

(IT) Get booted by Spain for having our curragh in their territory. The French are building the Great Lighthouse. The Germans are building the Great Wall. Spain revolts.

(1|91) 730 BC
Chop goes to Temple in Warwick, with 15 turns left, I whip the rest.

(IT) Spain becomes a Monarchy.

(2|92) 710 BC
London: Horseman -> Horseman in 5.
Warwick: Temple -> Spearman in 20.

(IT) Nothing.

(3|93) 690 BC
York: Horseman -> Settler in 6.
Northshire: Worker -> Worker in 10.

Its time. I declare war on India.

Stray settler pair:
Veteran Archer kills Regular Warrior, wins flawlessly, captures Settler for 2 slaves. (1-0)

Battle of Lahore:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (2-0)
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 3 HP. (3-0)
Lahore falls, and we raze it.

(IT) We see an Indian worker retreat into Karachi. The French complete the Hanging Gardens, as expected, and begin the Great Wall.

(4|94) 670 BC
Coventry: Horseman -> Horseman in 6.

(IT) Kill a Swordsman on defense. (4-0) An Indian Spearman-Settler pair appears out of the fog, moving towards the ruins of Lahore. I welcome the future slaves. Spain is building the Great Wall.

(5|95) 650 BC
Hastings: Horseman -> Spearman in 4.

(IT) Indian settler pair continues inexplicably past our troops to the ruins of Lahore.

(6|96) 630 BC
London: Horseman -> Horseman in 3. Gets 10 spt now.
Breakfast: Spearman -> Settler in 15.
Culture expansion at Warwick.

Battle of Kohlapur:
Veteran Archer kills Regular Spearman flawlessly. (5-0)
Regular Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (6-0)
Kohlapur falls, we raze it (culture) and gain 2 slaves. (4 total)

Settler pair:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (7-0)
We gain two more slaves. (6 total)

Furs are now connected.

(IT)
Muahaha:
Rat07_610BC_Russia_India.jpg

For those playing along at home, Russia is to the south of India, they are connected by a very narrow isthmus. Poor, poor, India.

India is in anarchy.

(7|97) 610 BC
On the way to Karachi...
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Warrior, loses 1 HP. (8-0)
Capture another slave (7 total).

(IT) India becomes a Monarchy.

(8|98) 590 BC
We spot a Russian horseman-settler pair in the northern part of India's territory. While it could make a break for the empty land, I hope India kills it.

Veteran Horseman kill an approaching Regular Swordsman, loses 2 HP. (9-0)

Battle of Karachi:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 1 HP. (10-0)
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 3 HP. (11-0)
Karachi falls, we raze it and gain 2 slaves (9 total).

At this point, we're over-extended and have completed our objectives.
Rat07_590BC_India_Peace.jpg

We get all of their gold as well (93).

Indian War Final Tally:
3 razed cities
3 captured (gift from Peace) cities
11 units killed
9 slaves gained (included taking 2 settlers)
0 units lost
0 promotions

The captured cities were the best I could get, and Calcutta and Bengal both are a key part of their eastern supply lines. They are all size 1, no units, no improvements, and massively corrupt. I choose to abandon all three in the interests of slowing down India. They would flip back soon anyway.

Now its settler time, and then its culture time.

(IT) Indian warrior loses trying to kill Russian horseman settler pair in the swamps.

(9|99) 570 BC
London: Settler -> Temple in 9. Could be an Aqueduct...
York: Settler -> Temple in 12. Could be another Settler...

With those Settlers, our cities are all small and we have no dire need for builds, so its time to revolt!!!

We draw a 4-turn Anarchy. No one is starving.

(IT) Germany completes the Statue of Zeus.

(10|100) 550 BC
Smash barbarian encampment in the north for 25 gold with our warrior.

I leave a pile of workers unmoved, for the next player's discretion.

Sorry to pass on Anarchy, but its just 3 turns, and you can have 2000+ gold to spend on rushes! (Just to be clear: we want a Monarchy.)

--- The Save ---

Rat07_550BC_Status_Dotmap.jpg

Military Inventory:
1 Warrior
5 Archers
2 Spearman
8 Horsemen
= 16 units, with 8 cities. No more units allowed. (But 2 settlers are afoot).

We have been at Peace with France since turn 76. We must declare war on turn 106 (430 BC, 6 more turns).

We're going to need another push against India to take Delhi and get Iron before MDI, Pikemen, and Knights come into play. I think they're weakened enough this shouldn't happen. But, should Madras fall to the Russians, we have to worry about getting there first.

We've had Map Making for a few turns, time for Harbors, Galleys, and settling other islands?

Roster:
ThERat
MeteorPunch
Vol - just whooped up on India:whipped:
pindicator - UP!
zyxy - on deck

your turns are just amazing :goodjob:
from trading to war, perfect !!!

I agree with your plans and dotmap, let's settle those cities and go for another war with India before they have phants

By the way, don't forget that once we hit the MA,we need to declare war on Spain

And of course, in 6 turns war again with France

woohooo!

Can't ask for much better than that. Excellent turns, Vol.

We can expect to actually see a landing or two from France this time around. I might rush a horse or two up north after anarchy as we are very thin up there. Of course, after the brown dot settles, we won't need our wall.

Maybe I'll go on a bit of a rush-binge... haha, so much gold so many possibilities! And we are about to connect our third resource!

Agree on the war-plan against India. If we can, we should be ready to go after them once the 20-turn peace is up, so I will probably focus more on military (for what I can) before building infra.

And don't worry, Vol. After the anarchy is over, I'll be sure we become a Despotism -- I mean, Monarchy! :D

Okay, I gotta go catch a bus to work. Got it and will play tonight.

I doubt we'll get to the MA during the next turn set. No one has Currency, Philosophy, or Code of Laws, and the tech pace has been very average.

We definitely need more of a standing army to defend against landings in our upcoming wars, certainly a few more spearmen, but we need to get some more cities down first, since we're at the limit. Getting three cities down should remove the need for The Wall and free up more than enough troops (11 units, 6 new from adding 3 cities, plus 5 just sitting there fortifying).

France has been fully-settled for a long time, has lots of big cities with little corruption, and has spent a lot of time building tons of troops. It might get a tad ugly. Do we build any galleys? Do we make a counteroffensive?

Definitely go on a cash-rush binge. Make sure to use partial rush as appropriate to get maximum benefit. We need culture very badly, or it will be our bane throughout the entire game. Cash rush temples, then build up military for defense and India in 20.

Sorry I haven't gotten to it. Playing now, otherwise I won't do it tomorrow either.

Agree on moving the green dot east. We can fit another town in the middle that way, as well.

I'll put a write-up on tomorrow; i have a job interview tomorrow morning and need to get to bed. I'm up too late already.

I moved the green dot one turn. We are at war with Russia after a quick faux war with Germany. Both demanded technologies. I messed up a 2-fer with France and Spain; did the wrong tech to the wrong civ, but we had money to burn anyway. We still do (~500g or so still in the bank).

Rushed temples, made more horses, declared on France on turn 106.

Good call on moving Liverpool. We'll need some food there :). I'll wait for your write-up before playing.

Good luck on the interview!

Inherited Turn:

Anarchy!

IBT-

Germans demand Monarchy. I refuse and they declare.

530BC (101)

Anarchy!

Move green dot one tile east. Sorry Vol, but I agree with Meteor on this one.

Spain now knows Map Making.

IBT-

Russian settler is captured; horse retreated to leave it behind!
Dehli completes Temple of Artemis. There's our culture booster.
France builds The Great Wall in Tours. Invasions just got a little harder (Tours is the farthest city from us on the French mainland).

510BC (102)

Anarchy!

Settle Liverpool. It's set on Harbor.

IBT-

No more anarchy.
We are now a Monarchy.

490BC (103)
France knows Currency.

Settle Dover at the brown dot and incense is now connected.

Rush a temple in Coventry for 140g.

Luxuries get turned off and everyone is still ready to [party]

IBT-

We get the forbidden palace message.
Coventry: Temple -> Horseman

470BC (104)
Rush harbor in West Indies for 40g.
Short Rush harbors in Liverpool and Dover (using Walls) for 76g apiece.
Rush a temple in London for 212g.
Rush a temple in Breakfast for 172g.
York gets a temple for 216g.
Northshire does too for 212g.

IBT-
Lots of temples...

450BC (105)
Spain has Philo.

Buy Currency from France for 442g.
Welll... I thought I saw that Spain didn't have currency, but now I can't do a 2-fer...
So I decide to keep jamming my foot in my mouth and buy Philo from Spain for 465g.
I at least sell back Philo to France for 262g.
I feel I gaffed that one good...

Meanwhile, our research is set to Literacy.

Make a little extra money by making a scientist at capped York and getting rid of our science slider.

430BC (106)
Well, we all know what time it is.
France is told that their cheese stinks and their accounting skills are of inadequate measure, among other taunts that go along with declaring war.

410BC (107)
not much

390BC (108)

IBT-
LondOn: Horse -> Market
Coventry: Horse ->Market

370BC (109)
Peace with Germany + Philosophy nets us 248g.

Rush a temple in West Indies for 224g.

IBT-

Russia demands Writing. I think about caving, but then I remember where they started. So I tell them to stuff it.

They declare. :(

Warwick: Spear -> Harbor
Northshire: Worker -> Harbor
West Indies: Temple -> Market (plz change this to something built within 100 turns)

350BC (110)

Settler makes it to the white dot.

We can fit one more settler in the middle of our lands. The central location that presents itself is 1 tile SE of the horses. Or if we decide we want to save all the grassland (i.e. food) that we can, we could plant it two tiles west of Liverpool.

I can't imagine Russia sending us much. It's the boat landings that I fear from France.

Got it, will play tomorrow evening, it's too late now.

Initial thoughts:
Too bad we have no fresh water. It means that towns without food bonus can use at most two plains, so we could fit two more towns in the middle, perhaps one on the coast, S-SW of Liverpool, and one on the desert tile S of the horse. We also need two more settlers up north, and we could build a filler town near the India border. I think Breakfast will go on settler duty, switching the rax to settler. This kills 8 shields which is ugly, but we need the settlers more than another rax. I might switch Coventry to horse as a market is not that needed yet.

York seems a good spot for the FP, I'll start on it after the aqueduct. Next player can switch if you want.

We do not have Iron, that will be a problem. India has some at Delhi, but there's 8 turns of peace to go.

I'll try and build up a navy, but our harbor towns are small and unproductive, so it will take a while.

I suppose we want to run minscience? I'll turn it on then :).
