(0|90) 750 BC
We have a ridiculous amount of gold for this point in the game: 1726 gold.
We can now see that there are
no rivers on our island. There will be no irrigation until Electricity.
Diplomacy:
Forced peace with France until turn 106 (430 BC).
Peace with everyone else.
We're up Writing to all but Germany, who knows no one else.
We're down Monarchy to France, Construction to Spain, and Map Making to Germany.
We lack an embassy with France, so I make one for 50 gold.
Yes, Paris has three cows. Hanging Gardens will likely finish in 4 turns, with France having a monopoly on Monarchy.
I think Germany and France will be the powerhouses in this game. They both have nice territory (Germany has size, France has a 3-cow capitol).
Military Inventory:
1 Warrior
5 Archer
1 spearman
3 Horsemen
----------
10 units
8 cities
6 more units allowed.
India situation
No use in guessing what defense India might have, when for a measly 24 gold I can investigate Lahore:
Two regular Spearmen on defense, and building a Settler in 4.
I also investigate nearby Kohlapur and Karachi, for 24 gold each:
Kohlapur: Temple, 1 Regular Spearman on defense, another built in 2.
Karachi: No buildings, 1 Regular Spearman on defense, Settler built in 7.
With such weak defenses, I think the time to strike might be very soon.
Culture
Our culture is pitiful:
We have
no culture except our Palace.
Expect flips.
Trades
With all this gold, and three civs having a tech monopoly, its a must:
Writing +
854 gold to
Spain for
Construction.
Writing +
Construction +
518 gold to
France for
Monarchy.
Construction to
Germany for
Map Making +
58 gold.
Monarchy to
Spain for
1138 gold.
Map Making to
France for
553 gold.
End result: Gained three techs and ~350 gold for Writing. Didn't have to give Map Making to Spain or Monarchy to Germany. Not bad.
I choose
not to revolt to Monarchy, as I don't think we'll benefit much from it right now, and we need to strike India while its vulnerable.
Its finally time to hit Enter...
(IT) Get booted by Spain for having our curragh in their territory. The French are building the Great Lighthouse. The Germans are building the Great Wall. Spain revolts.
(1|91) 730 BC
Chop goes to Temple in Warwick, with 15 turns left, I whip the rest.
(IT) Spain becomes a Monarchy.
(2|92) 710 BC
London: Horseman -> Horseman in 5.
Warwick: Temple -> Spearman in 20.
(IT) Nothing.
(3|93) 690 BC
York: Horseman -> Settler in 6.
Northshire: Worker -> Worker in 10.
Its time.
I declare war on India.
Stray settler pair:
Veteran Archer kills Regular Warrior, wins flawlessly, captures Settler for 2 slaves. (1-0)
Battle of Lahore:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (2-0)
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 3 HP. (3-0)
Lahore falls, and
we raze it.
(IT) We see an Indian worker retreat into Karachi. The French complete the Hanging Gardens, as expected, and begin the Great Wall.
(4|94) 670 BC
Coventry: Horseman -> Horseman in 6.
(IT) Kill a Swordsman on defense. (4-0) An Indian Spearman-Settler pair appears out of the fog, moving towards the ruins of Lahore. I welcome the future slaves. Spain is building the Great Wall.
(5|95) 650 BC
Hastings: Horseman -> Spearman in 4.
(IT) Indian settler pair continues inexplicably past our troops to the ruins of Lahore.
(6|96) 630 BC
London: Horseman -> Horseman in 3. Gets 10 spt now.
Breakfast: Spearman -> Settler in 15.
Culture expansion at Warwick.
Battle of Kohlapur:
Veteran Archer kills Regular Spearman flawlessly. (5-0)
Regular Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (6-0)
Kohlapur falls,
we raze it (culture) and gain 2 slaves. (4 total)
Settler pair:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 2 HP. (7-0)
We gain two more slaves. (6 total)
Furs are now connected.
(IT)
Muahaha:
For those playing along at home, Russia is to the south of India, they are connected by a very narrow isthmus. Poor, poor, India.
India is in anarchy.
(7|97) 610 BC
On the way to Karachi...
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Warrior, loses 1 HP. (8-0)
Capture another slave (7 total).
(IT) India becomes a Monarchy.
(8|98) 590 BC
We spot a Russian horseman-settler pair in the northern part of India's territory. While it could make a break for the empty land, I hope India kills it.
Veteran Horseman kill an approaching Regular Swordsman, loses 2 HP. (9-0)
Battle of Karachi:
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 1 HP. (10-0)
Veteran Horseman kills Regular Spearman, loses 3 HP. (11-0)
Karachi falls, we raze it and gain 2 slaves (9 total).
At this point, we're over-extended and have completed our objectives.
We get all of their gold as well (93).
Indian War Final Tally:
3 razed cities
3 captured (gift from Peace) cities
11 units killed
9 slaves gained (included taking 2 settlers)
0 units lost
0 promotions
The captured cities were the best I could get, and Calcutta and Bengal both are a key part of their eastern supply lines. They are all size 1, no units, no improvements, and massively corrupt. I choose to
abandon all three in the interests of slowing down India. They would flip back soon anyway.
Now its settler time, and then its culture time.
(IT) Indian warrior loses trying to kill Russian horseman settler pair in the swamps.
(9|99) 570 BC
London: Settler -> Temple in 9. Could be an Aqueduct...
York: Settler -> Temple in 12. Could be another Settler...
With those Settlers, our cities are all small and we have no dire need for builds, so its time to
revolt!!!
We draw a
4-turn Anarchy. No one is starving.
(IT) Germany completes the Statue of Zeus.
(10|100) 550 BC
Smash barbarian encampment in the north for 25 gold with our warrior.
I leave a pile of workers unmoved, for the next player's discretion.
Sorry to pass on Anarchy, but its just 3 turns, and you can have 2000+ gold to spend on rushes! (Just to be clear: we want a Monarchy.)
