Rat28 - AWE OBC - Iroquois

The Mayans are on a wonder binge, I'd say they are a fine horse to bet on in the GLib race. Korea could not have picked a better site for our new city, they even put it on a river! Now the Maya settler.....

:lurker:
I like the idea of you guys letting the settlers go. That Mayan settler may wander to your back 40 for the silks and set you up for a nice core!
Very interesting game btw.

Preturn: Looks good. Hit enter.

IBT: People of Kish depose us. No units lost.

530 BC: Recapture Kish, but lose the Elite* Mounted Warrior (requires using Army).
Raise Lux for Capitol

510 BC: Kill 2 Sumerian Archers without loss. Hope to finally be able to attack Zabalam next turn.

490 BC: 3 MW take out 2 Endiku and Archer in Zabalam and city is Captured.

470 BC: Kill a Korean Archer near Hyansan. We are under attack there.
Moving on Inchon - Kill a regular Spear.

450 BC: Two more Spear killed and we capture Inchon. 5 Korean Archers now in the the area however near Hyangsan (they are passing it by)
Kill 4 Sumerian Archers near Kish. Zabalam resistance ends and it starved to size 2 and will be down to size 1 next turn.

430 BC: Hyangsan is in some danger as one of our defending Spears falls easily. We win the other battle though.

410 BC: Scrambling to cover the cities. Lose a Mounted Warrior on defense when the Spear is nearly killed by an Archer (city on hill too). Been getting good luck on offense and not so good on defense.

390 BC: Cities looking more secure.

370 BC: The units moving past Hyangsan will likely prove annoying. There are Spears among them.

350 BC: Not so good. Sumeria now has fast units (Horsemen). I cut a road to prevent them from attacking the city in 1 turn.

Notes:

To discuss:
I started on Literature and put our Capitol on Heroic Epic. We can finish Lit in 9 turns, the Heroic Epic in 11. That would give us the GLib in 23-24 turns in the capitol.

Or we can still switch to a MW this turn and build MW every 2 turns. We are likely to lose the long term benefit of the GLib, but gain a stronger army.

However, A landing from Sumeria has put our horses at risk and we may only be able to build Archers.

Question is whether we can afford to go for the GLib or not? I think if we could get it, it would be better, even if it means not gaining more towns. However, it is not worthwhile if we get overrun (obviously).

I think Kish can hold with the Army over near it. Hyangsan is more risky. I don't mind if just Hyangsan is lost if we get the GLib. More though would not be acceptable.

Hyangsan has 4 units in it and 2 more MW are nearby.

Rat28_BC350.jpg

replacing lost units without the capital will be hard. but with our horses gone anyway, i think we should go for GLib.

I agree to go for the Glib and then get back our horses later on.

I would have gotten it, but can' seem to find any save :scan:

thanks for posting the save...went for a  session with an old time friend to talk about the wide spread lack of common sense in this world :lol:maybe too much influence of

will play later today

Preturn
things looks fine

1.330BC
as predicted, we lose our horses to a new Sumer town
take out a Korean archer

IT disaster almost strikes when 2 horses attack Kish and redline the spear there, we survive though
more units coming and Korea lands a settler pair in the north

2.310BC
defeat 3 units near Kish, defeat 2 units in Lazapa, but the town still stands

IT Egypt finishes the Great Wall, the settler pair moves close and might steal our northern lux

3. 290BC
good news as we take Lazapa after taking out another 2 units
take out 2 more units, but lose a MW on an archer on grass, make up for it by gaining another MGL

4. 270BC
we need more slaves to connect stuff, thus our army takes out a settler pair

IT defeat horse on defense

5. 250BC
we have 3 settler pairs running about, will see first what they are up to

6. 230BC
fail to take out both Korean spears walking about, and we have a redlined MW for their spear to attack
get 2 more slaves

IT we lose that MW and we lose our silk supply....

7.210BC
take out the offending spear
take out 2 horses near Kish, send 2 MW's north to take the horse city as it has grown to size 2

IT oh no, Kish deposes us
Agade finally gets a rax for more units

8. 190BC
take out 2 archers between Lazapa and Hyangsan
the situation south is pretty bleak, take out a horse that could take empty Zambalam
need to move out spear to protect the workers

IT we get literature
 Sumer start Sun Tzu

9. 170BC
GLib will take another 15 turns
take out 2 EW in Kisurra, but archer left

research is set to CB, situation around Kish is crazy with so few units

10. 150BC
things are tight, but we manage to take Kisurra to get the horses back and another town

we are still short of 1 city for another army (the MGL currently sits in our capital)
we urgently need more defenders and then MW's again. Production without our capital is abysmal.
Let's hoe the GLib gamble will pay off

Wow, sorry to hear that, I hate being stuck in bed, hope things get better soon. If we don't hear from Cerenkov soon, I will take it and play tonight or tomorrow. Looks like we may have to play defense for awhile until we get our capital back producing MW's. I think if Inch'on can be boosted into productivity we might do better. Also, I'd like to grab Pyongsong as soon as it grows to get our silks back. If I can manage half that, I'd be happier.

Remember that if we get the GLib we won't mind running Lux a bit higher, so silks are not highest priority. If you can go for it feel free, but I think you will be on the defensive.

Remeber that units are very important to conserve. I would avoid risky attacks even if it means letting us get pillaged a bit. Go with the best odds, but I would tend to bombard Spears before attacking them for example. Dinging them for a single HP and having them step back and heal can stetch out an attack and leave battles to later when we have the GLib.

Sadly we don't have iron for Pikes (hopefully gotten from the GLib). Once things get better we may want to explore N to see if there is iron for a colony ( or send up a useless regular warrior if we have one).

As Greebley pointed out, be careful with using units. As our capital is still not able to produce anything, we need to be very careful. If we can actually get 8 cities, don't forge to form another army.

Will do, I definitely agree to hunker down and be careful with our precious units. I haven't seen Cerenkov on the forums this weekend, so I will probably play tonight, unless he wants it first.

Oh crap, I didn't post my turn-set yet! Here is my turn-log:

Spoiler :

Rat28Core.jpg

The AI'S are building us a core, how generous...

Rat28South.jpg

Under the 2hp Korean spear are 2 archers, with 2 more 1 tile out. On the other side, the loss of Kish and Zabalam aches....

Handoff notes: Keep that MW headed for Lazapa, there are 2 archers under the 2hp spear and 2 more in the fog. I forgot to ping the healthy spear near Hyangsan. When the army gets healthy, we might send it north to grab Kaminaljuyu, it is ripe for the plucking. If we wait 5 turns, Inch'on can add an MW to take it without the army. Good luck.

The save:

:goodjob: you held off the AI nicely. The GLib is also soon ours, let's hope it will happen.

I would be careful about Der. If the borders expand, we not only lose wines, but also horses. maybe we might want to build an additional road north of the river. Anyway, those 3 cities should be ripe for plucking and we got a nice core and IIRC get another army from the MGL sitting in our capital.
