Rat30 - 1BC AWE - pangaea

We need to meet a few more civs, so that they can get us our Core ;)

@Greebley

Fine then. You have more experience and the logic seems right

Note though that something could change to foil this plan so we also have to be adaptable. Large number of units showing up is usually what can crush a plan like this. The current player is the one to judge this. It is not wrong if we don't get the forces launched.

Yup, the new plan is to survive until we get swords online. I have played 11 turns of survive the enemy units and lousy RnG. The good news, we have an iron colony and the next player will get the first swords. The bad news is that we are choking on unit support, we must gain more cities. Other bad news, the Incans have horses. I recommend grabbing their capital, they will build more cities for us later. Anyway, here is my turn-log:

The save:

The initial phase will surely be one of the toughest in this game. We should get a sword stack with 4 swords or as Greebley suggested, 3 swords + 1 archer and get that 4th city so we get a sword army. The army will be crucial

Preturn: Grabbing a fourth city and building the army makes it a good turn. Unit loss was within acceptable bounds. I can't whether the losses were avoidable, but going after a town does expose units.

Building swords at the moment is a good choice with two new civs met.

There is some MM you can do:
Kyoto is at 13 shields and can easily be at 15. It got knocked off a 2 shield square to a no shield square. Those two shields are very important as it gives us 50% more swords than otherwise (in 6 turns we get 3 sword instead of 2). When enemy units were around Kyoto, it is good to adjust the city to fix fairly often.

Machu picchu can also pick up a food and not take any longer to build the sword. I would consider this very minor, but if we can grow we can get more shields in the long run.

Not for this turn, but if I get a MP in Cori, I can switch to more food at the same number of shields (the extra shield from the forest is corrupt). I decide to go for another Spear that I will get next turn in Cori for this reason.

Olly is very tricky but I will likely abandon it. Its too far to the side to defend well. For this turn I will let the sword heal. If we can keep it a bit we can get unit support from it.

Start a GLib Prebuild.

IBT: Injured Horse Retreats.

530 BC: Be careful about automove. The worker movement is not what I want for the prebuild.

510 BC: Sword in Olly dies attacking an Archer and I abandon Olly. What rotten luck.
Declared war on Iroquois (archer Spotted).

490 BC: Killed Babylon Spear.

470-430 BC: Killing Archers and Horses near Cori.

410 BC:Sword loses vs Archer again(in forest). This is annoying.
Prebuild is a long way away so going for Math first.

390 BC: Babylon Sword spotted.

350 BC: Kill 2 Babylon Sword.

Notes:

Not a very exciting turn and RNG downright annoying. We may have troubles going after other civs if more units keep showing up.

Don't feel bad if lose this one. Iroquois and Spain seem to be to the west. Incan to the NW, and Babylon to the NE. Defending against multiple directions is very tough and often unwinnable. I am not saying we have no chance, just that don't be suprised if the AI becomes unmanagable. The fact we can't settle makes it even harder - and we have met a lot of civs now.

Grabbing Cuzco would be great if we can pull it off. We didn't have sufficient swords yet for my turn to do so.

Rat30_BC350.jpg

We can send the army on a self destruct mission to destroy enemy infrastructure.

It does seem hard, But we will try anyway ;)

Don't use the amry for pillaging at the moment. It should be used to capture Cuzco. Doesn't sound too stretching or maybe I am too optimistic. Anyway, great job getting us an army.

I think gping for the GLib and having a mere 2 cities for production is a nice gamble, let's hope we can pull that off.

we might get overwhelemed by enemy stacks in the nearer future. With the meagre city count we have, things can turn pretty ugly pretty quickly.

::goodjob: on getting an army. Hope we can hold on to iron without it, we need it to conquer cities. Cuzco seems to be the only decent target.

Going for GLib is a brave move with our limited city number. But with our terrible financial situation, we'll need it.

I got it, but won't have time to play today. I just moved closer to my workplace, enabling me to play during the week in the future. But right now there's still a lot of unpacking to do. Also I don't have internet at home, so upload at best on wednesday morning, probably thursday morning. A swap would be better if possible.

ok, el_filet, we can swap

Pre-Turn
send an archer back home as additional MP to reduce our lux tax

1. 330BC
move army towards Cuzco
try and place swords strategically

IT Maya start Sun Tzu (in 310BC !!!!)

2.310BC
take out first spear in Cuzco
defend the iron with a second sword

IT iron covering spear defeats a sword

3. 290BC
defeat spear 2 + 3 and Cuzco is ours :dance:
science up a notch to 40% and maths drops to 7 turns

IT the AI turn around presumably to go after Cuzco, good for us

4. 270BC
temporarily employ 3 scientists to suppress Cuzco
e-sword defeats spear near Cori

oh no, 2 settler pairs show up near the iron :eek:

5. 250BC
manage to drop lux to 20% since we now work a mined river tile instead of a hill

IT Cuzco faces 5 enemy units next IT
a city is settled but not within the iron influence, good for our future

6. 230BC
decide to whip walls in Cuzco

IT army defeats 4 enemy units in Cuzco, still green
we get the whipped walls there
more enemy units show up there

7. 210BCBC
more enemies show up at the palace prebuild

IT 2 more units die at Cuzco, that is great for us
we get maths, literature next

8. 190BC
brutally smash a Chinese mini stack at Machu consisting of 4 warrior and 1 archer

IT add 4 more dead units at Cuzco, this setup is great for us currently

9. 170BC
the AI is slowly encircling us with their cities, these will be good future cities for us

IT 2 more units die at Cuzco

10. 150BC
pull in additional spear into Cuzco
defeat a Babs spear, our units are spread strategically and we should be able to take cities once they grow

The ring of cities
rat30150go3.jpg

Life is Certainly looking Easier now, We can capture all those cities easily, And have a chance in the game.

Probably Army will Remain Full time defender of Cuzco for Some time. So we can send our reinforcements to capture cities as they grow

Vilcabamba will probably be the first Target, as it should grow in 3-4 turns as it is on a river and flood plains.

Eulbar and Oka can be targeted after we clear up the mess around Cuzco

i got it

it appears we'll soon have the chance to conquer a core. one city has already grown, but i think i'll wait for the cities in the east.

We have met a lot of enemies and they are showing up in numbers. Luckily, the self destructed mainly at Cuzco so far. However, more units will show up and we have to be really careful.
I would also wait for the eastern cities to grow and defend the other sides. Hopefully, we can also reinforce Cuzco slowly to free up the army.

Turn 0 (150 BC):
move wasted shield in machu to food

IBT:
iros impale one sword and bring 4 more into position
incans lose horse
tenochtitlan completes SoZ

Turn 1:
cori: sword->sword
I'd like to have some artillery, but one more turn for a sword seems worth it.¨
mayans moved settler toward machu

IBT:
iros lose 3 swords and move in 2 new ones

Turn 2:
kyoto: sword->sword
vilcabamba has grown, move in swords, they see 2 bab swords, one right next. but 4 swords on a mountain should be enough. not so sure about defending the cities afterwards...
kill mayan spear near cori
notice iron near caughnawaga. I could live without iro swords, but better then MWs.
switch cori to temple, I'd like to put some distance between us and a civ with a fast UU.

IBT:
iros lose some more swords
incans send some units
the chinese seem to target machu

Turn 3:
capture vilca->pult
a bab sword on flatlands (behind river) holds off two swords before falling.
additional support enables us to increase science, lit in 7
eulbar has grown

IBT:
some more units die attacking cuzco
chinese start sun tsu

Turn 4:
sword near eulbar makes me take a detour

IBT:
mayans start colossus
iros seem to have changed their mind and move swords south
mayans move toward vilca

Turn 5:
kill chinese sword
lose elite sword agains another bab sword :mad:
move out army to kill JT and hopefully lure back some units

IBT:
it appears the AI is set on the new targets

Turn 6:
kyoto: sword->sword
hire scientist in kyoto
cori: temple->sword
use army to kill another JT and pillaging spear
capture eulbar->curragh
kill chinese units near machu
increase science again, 3 turns

IBT:
aztecs found cempoala NE of vilca
AI moves back to cuzco
chinese start GLib :scared:

Turn 7:
reduce science 10%, Lit next turn
kill bab sword
move army back into cuzco

IBT:
first iro sword gives me a scare, reducing army to half it's HP. the rest does almost no damage.
lit->HB
reduce science to some scientists. they would get pottery in 4, so switch to that.

Turn 8:
kyoto: sword->sword
GLib in 28 (leave it on palace for now). MM for 4 food instead of 2, sacrificing one shield (due to corruption).

IBT:
aztecs want to trade? well, their city is some tiles away, we did not really meet them, until I moved sword for a little recon. declare.

Turn 9:
incan and egyptian settler near cuzco. declare on cleo.

IBT:
iro settler pair joins the party
lot of units move toward cuzco
cori expands

Turn 10:
kyoto: sword->sword
almost lose sword preventing chinese spear from pillaging dyes

Notes to next player:
not sure we should let the settlers through, but i doubt they'll start to pillage.
to play it safe, a temple in eulbar might be better. i'd like to know the landform though, we met all civs.
didn't dare moving our units near the iro sword stack. would have had a chance last turn, but moved workers on fp before noticing.
moving sword into vilca and one on the mountain would prevent bab spear from going there. I preferred to have the unit closer to cuzco.
my plan to road the mountain for safe passage seems like a waste now. suggest you move the worker stack to road toward vilca (after road on fp) and the slaves for eulbar.
as long as there's a chance for GLib, I think we should go only on scientists. could switch some to taxmakers, remember to switch back after pottery.

I think it's time to go on the offensive again. but we should decide on where first. iros have big enough cities closeby, but I doubt we'll be able to hold such a frontline, at least as long as we're building GLib. I'd try to take out the babs in the east.

good job in getting us 2 more cities

Let's be careful and expand slowly as not too stretch too thin, all enemies known means many units to beat. I do hope we can get the Glib though it doesn't look that good.
